"Caso Mateus"

so this case has been messing with the whole start of season of the two main Portuguese leagues, and it's been dragging around for like half a year now..

i'm not completely into this case, but it now involves Gil Vicente, Belenenses and Leixões, all three wanting to get the spot at the Portuguese 1st division..just because apparently there was some irregularity with Mateus, a Gil Vicente player, and he souldn't have played, which he did. Now Belenenses(who were relegated) claim they should go back to the 1st division and that Gil Vicente should get relegated..and now Leixões(who were the best positioned of the teams who didn't get promoted in the 2nd division) say they should be promoted not Belenenses because they proved themselves on the pitch...

the worst part is that this whole case was a football affair untill Gil Vicente decided to appeal to a Civil Court, something that FIFA does not allow.

so this is really a friggin mess, and i don't know if you guys(non-portuguese) are going to get it at all, but what i want to say is that FIFA can punish Portuguese football by suspendind FC Porto, Sporting and Benfica from the Champions League, and Portugal from the Euro 2008 qualifiers..just because Blatter wants to make this case an example...

now FIFA already convinced Juventus, who were in a similar case, not to appeal to a Civil Court, but these guys at Gil Vicente say they want to go all the way....

this is it...the rest of the Portuguese Armada can explain what i didn't make so clear..

don't take this as a portuguese case only, because this sh*t is bound to affect things internationally...

the thing about Mateus, if I'm not mistaken, is that to make his contract valid, Gil Vicente appealed to the civil courts and not and not Liga's, and in the rules that's punished with relegation.

I don't believe Gil Vicente's board will be selfish enough to **** up what can be the best european season ever for portugal (we never had 3 teams in the UCL)...

UEFA have warned Chievo, Ajax and Osasuna to be ready to take the big 3 spots in the CL if FIFA really suspend Portugal from the international competitions :nape:

the main thing on Mateus contract was the fact is was registered as an amateur player at Lixa and Gil Vicente have signed him even when it's ilegal change a player status during a season. the Liga have rejected Mateus contract and Gil Vicente appealed to the civil courts and won.

Haha this would get us in the CL after all I read.
So Kopenhagen can be forgotten after all.

Obrigado! :rockman:

Imagine this Sun's headline: "Portugal banned from football"

Seriously, even dirty Juve didn't appeal to a civil court to prevent the whole of Italy from getting punished. Can't the Portuguese FA somehow make a deal with those clubs involved like knockout games for that spot or an extended league?

The stupid portuguese mentality is running all over Gil Vicente FC managers: "VAMOS COME-LOS". If they think like this, we may as well be banned for some years. And if it happens, I will be sure to drunk myself, grab a few friends and record something like: "OH GIL VICENTE, VAI PRO CARA***". Really. For the first time we have 3 teams in the CL something like this happens...

The portuguese FA invoked the public interest measure to solve this mess. So Gil Vicente will get relegated, Leixões will remain in the Liga de Honra and Belenenses will stay in the Superliga. This should prevent any punishment by FIFA towards our football.

not really because Gil Vicente isn't dropping the civil court lawsuits.

Seems rather stupid to ban every club because of a bunch of portuguese redneck Carlos*asses though.

Did you guys see the interview some hours ago that Fiuza gave to RTP1?

I found it hilarious, I hope someone has recorded it. :borat:

Precisely. What do all the other portuguese teams have to do with this? FIFA should just punish the club if they will but leave the others out of this because they really have nothing to do with it.

It's really blackmailing, because they're saying if this club doesn't give up with the process all of the others shall suffer the consequences.

The same can be said about the Juve case and all the Italians clubs and NT. FIFA have to do that, because there's no other way to put pressure on a club by "boycotting" the whole nation and its clubs.

would you think it's fair if you got your club banned because some little crappy club from your league f*cked up? I don't...

It's just a way to avoid clubs getting into Civil Courts. It's not fair, it's not nice, but so far it's worked... I'd feel sorry for the Portuguese teams if that really happened though, as the clubs who qualified for Europe can't do much about it.

That's my point small or a big club it shouldn't. But they only way for FIFA to actually put a pressure on these clubs is to fvck up the entire nation, it's unfair but no club would like to have that in their head.

Nice work Gil Vicente, nice work.

Now that we are officially the pariah state of international soccer, maybe we should wait till next year to resolve this thing. There's no point in doing it now, since our clubs have been kicked out of Europe, and the Selecção have been eliminated from Euro 2008 before it even started. Gil Vicente and the city of Barcelos can go f*ck themselves for what they did to football in this country.

this has got to be a nightmare, the CL, Euro2008, everything gone because some small insignificant club decides to have a hissy fit. I just can't beleive such a big part of my life has just been erased for the next 2 years  I sincerely hope someone burns down Gil Vicente's stadium... The punishment from FIFA though is just way to heavy, imagine England and all EPL clubs banned because someone like Yeovil Town decides to take a crappy little issue to court! It's unbelievable..

I think I'm still in shock here.
