Man U really surprised me. The team totally ran out of steam and it's unlucky for them they were drawn against AC Milan, a team with one of the best defences around. I'm not all that happy that Milan got through but I guess they deserved.

Though wouldn't it be something to have a Milan derby as the final? (H)

The harsh truth is that we think we are much better than we really are. We are not a top European team. Top English? no doubt about it, but not top European. Just because we won it 1999 doesn't automatically make us good by defenition the next season and it's about damn time the team learned that.

You hit the nail on the head there.(Y)

We get so hyped up about winning the Champions League each season, and then gets pulled back down to Earth.:(

Our passing was poor all game, shooting was poor, marking was poor also. We're just not good enough and the sooner Sir Alex realizes this, the better things will be I feel. But he's so hung up on winning the Champions League all the time, that he's blinded by the fact that it is not the only trophy there is.

Looking at our bench today made me cringe, we need some better players if we're gonna compete with the best in Europe.

Oh, and what the hell is up with Saha, we need to sell that fucker, get's injured to fucking often!

The injuries sure have lowered RvN's value huh. Last year he was one of the top scorers of Europe, but this year he's been dogged by injuries and by poor play. But will Man U sell him? I sure doubt it. Perhaps a summer of rest and relaxation and then training will get him back on the top of his game next year.

Maybe all our players should read Roy Keane's book. We're playing in the shadow of the '99 team.

RvN played a below par game to be honest. Ferguson took the gamble, and lost. But honestly, could we have done better with someone else?

Smith doesn't have that good of a first touch, not bad, but not European class surely. He doesn't have the experience as well and hasn't scored much lately. And he doesn't understand the lone striker role as well. Nevertheless, it is arguable whether or not we should have put Smith in earlier on.

Bellion? I don't even have to talk about that. He's decent, but when put on an European stage, would be considered pretty crap.

So we had to gamble with RvN anyway. Wish he would have done better with that chance from Fortune's pass. He had some space and time there.

Man Utd Analysis

Van Nistelrooy doesn't fit in the team and here is what i always thought was happening:

after winning the Champions league and dominating England...Sir Alex thought that he can come u with something new and play a 4-5-1 using a lone striker instead of a partnership which won him the champions league (Cole,Yorke)... These two scored in Delle Alpi and in the nou camp... yet Sir Alex thought that players like Veron and Nav Nistelrooy will make his team more of a continental side.. he then got to a point where he was lost between a regular sucessfull 4-4-2 and a failing 4-5-1... after seeing all his plans go wrong he had too much pride to admit he was wrong.... this is why Man Utd have lost their crown.....

Milan have too much tactical awareness and great experienced players who walked over United.... I don't see Alan Smith playing in Midfield or Solskjaer on the right wing winning United anything....

The horse just came back from a longterm injury and you're all ****ting on him cuz he's still getting into shape. What can of fans are you? A 4-5-1 formation works even better for him since he would be the target man.

to be fair Van Nistelrooy is known to always need at least 6 matches to get his form back...Just like Owen did so im sure he will comeback and bang them in...But itll be too late for Man Utd

4-2-3-1 could work now with intelligent budding players like Rooney and Ronaldo. They did well with Giggs as forwards.

With Keano as a defensive midfielder, on paper we wouldn't have been that bad as well.

Now RvN was match fit, we wouldn't have had such a hard time.
So I personally think that 4-2-3-1 can still work. the problem is, we might not have enough players who could actually be smart and technical enough to play this continental system.

Hell ****in no. Ruud plays waaaaaaaay better in a damn 4-4-2. He was complaining about being in a 4-5-1 because the goalscoring burden was falling on him always.

Something happened to him, I dont know what it is but something changed in him. A season or two ago he was a strong, mobile confident striker who once beat like 4 defenders before curling it around the keeper to score, wtf happened to him? Now he looks like a newborn deer, struggling to stay on foot.

Sigh....:kader:

We're not bashing RvN. We knew he would have a hard time having just come back from injury. We understand he needed time, we just wish he did better.

He did make that pass to Giggsy for the shot on the bar. He also kept the ball well at times. Also, I don't think there was a better choice to replace him. Thus, I was content to see RvN start the game.

If we'd played only one striker against Milan, it would've been even worse, look at what happened at Old Trafford. Rooney was isolated for the whole damn match. Even with both Rooney and van Nistelrooy up front today our attack looked second rate at best. Milan's defense is just that good!

We missed Gary Neville as well. We missed his crosses and experience. You just have to give it Milan apart from Crespo who's a disgrace.

anyway I stayed up all night to watch this match, from midnight to now, 6.17am. Gonna hit the sack.

Will talk about this later with you guys. Hold your heads high my fellow reds.

yeap, give us some props.... we deserve it.

Its not only our defence, but the help of Gattuso and Pirlo, to pressure and then recuperating the ball, that makes our defence even better.
