Yes he's starting most games now. He plays as leading striker with Rooney behind him as a supportive striker.

So 2 strikers, the korean always play big matches, Valencia i guess will be starter... that leaves a weak midfield.

Help?

Giggs has actually been amazing lately in middle (see the way he picked out Chelsea midfield apart 3 times in a row) and Carrick has really picked up form in 2011. I'm most confident with Carrick-Giggs.

Can Giggs run behind the ball all the time? Wasn't Fletcher they key of 2009 defeat?

Our line-up seems clear.

-----------Valdés-----------
Alves-Mascherano-Piqué-Puyol
-----------Sergio-------------
------Xavi--------Iniesta-----
------------Messi-------------
----Pedro-----------Villa------

I don't think Abidal will be starter and Mascherano has been awesome.

Carrick has been doing most of the defensive work, but Giggs does still chase a lot in midfield. The main threat from Giggs is that when he gets the ball his distribution and set-up is amazing. He is like one of those old guys you see in the park who doesn't hustle and tussle every inch but if you get him the ball you'll be chasing shadows of his passes all day.

Fletcher arguably was key to 2009 defeat (according to United fans anyway), but this is a completely different team, our main chaser is now Park.

In what way couldit suit Barca?

Well, thinking about the Arsenal game at the Emirates, where Rooney was forced deep just to receive the ball, it isolated him from Hernandez.

And both were ineffective on the day. Yes, there were other areas, especially in the midfield where individuals battles were lost for United, but I can see the same thing happening against Barca.

The problem with Park is that if he starts playing from a wide position, I don't think he can keep up with either Xavi/Iniesta. Pedro does switch flanks at times and Villa also operates out wide. Potential gaps there to be exploited by Barca.
Not sure if Fletcher deserves a start, he hasn't played much recently, but I can only see him being played as the team's enforcer.

Fletcher has not played a single game since like 2 months. He was injured and just recovered but did not play last week. Would be risky to make him play straight away against Barca.

Besides, Carrick has been playing very well. Not really a "destroyer" though.

Giggs is 37 but he probably has the most endurance in the club. He is slow now, but he hasn't lost his endurance, touch and creativity.

Carrick had been playing superss in 2009 too, then we put him on the carousel and he hasn't been the same since LOL :innocent_smile_1:

I can't remember Carrick in Rome, from united i only remember a memorable match by Rooney... as left back... and CR trying to win the match by his own.

At least we don't play like this:

Then you claim that you play "football" and other teams play "anti-football".

That's not the point. The point is that Barca plays just as dirty. And that while they don't need to, in my opinion, with all the great footballers they've got. They seriously dissappointed me against Real. I was hoping for them to destroy that bunch of butchers with awesome combination football, but instead gave them a treat of their own medicine.

Oh, ******* shut up already. It's the 100th time I've seen the Busquets argument responded to with the Nani argument and all the other variants. So Barca aren't saints and they use the same dirty tactics as every other team in the world. Surely this isn't as shocking as to stop you from sleeping at night?

You're not going to cut cheating from the sport, because, as evidenced by divers everywhere, cheating works. So do your best to focus on the entertaining side of it all and stop complaining. No player or team owes you anything, and so they don't have to live up to your expectations on every occasion.

That, and both teams suck major balls for different reasons, although not as much as the fans (on SG especially).

Cue 'Chelsea are Nazis' response with the Drogba 'disgrace' video to follow soon enough.
