I would actually want the club to offer a pay-per-performance deal to Ballack, you can see that he's got loads of talent, he always seems to take it up a notch while playing for Deutschland, maybe he needs to get his arse off the 130k per week pay and start earning it. He's not even close to reaching the heights of last season where he was crucial for us. He needs to know that he's not an untouchable player anymore.

I think ALL players in every club should be on performance related pay. That way they will always have to give maximum effort if they wanna earn. If the player doesn't perform, then he loses money. It can only be a good thing for football.

Yeah, I totally agree with that, its sad that footballers are paid much more than they actually deserve in terms of what they contribute in real life. But sadly thats how it is in the meantime. I don't think a salary cap is a good idea either. Just play and perform the best you can, and if it goes well, you'll get paid good.
On another note, A.Cole's just gotten himself in trouble over drink and driving, apparently after a charity event. way to go Ashley, gave the media a field day.

The guy is a genius.

Watch his style of play this season and compare it to the 03-04/04-05 season (where he was still brilliant) and you can see how he's gained so much experience.

heh, the comments on that page are especially a joy to read, people just can't stomach the fact that Frank is a smart lad.

I think all football fans respect frank lampard, I really enjoyed his spirit at the end of manU and chelsea match, they were 3-0 down but he smiled and shake hand of ronaldo after the foul. he is the pride of english football.

Sadly not all football fans respect Frank, he's an easy target with the jibes of Fat Frank and boo-boys even when he performs decently.
Frank is intelligent to realize that he should just get on with it, with the England games I mean, he knows Chelsea fans love him.
He's without doubt one of our best players of all time.

I think in London there are so many club rivals and unfortunitley fans include those differences in national matches.

A good hard earned win over Coventry, and 2 lovely goals to boot. Everyone looked good, and it was a pleasure to see The Bison have half an hour on the pitch. Quaresma has come to life aint he? Good stuff.

Arse or Hull in the semi final.

Juve tomorrow night. I'll leave it there for now. (Y)

Congratulations on the win. We know how tough it is to go there and not lose. Great(or should I say TERRIBLE:() to see Essien score so soon after returning from the layoff.

What a good game that was. End to end football, only ruined by a ref that once again was complete crap. Drogba's free kick was over the line and the linesman didn't even notice. What a joke.

Great follow up from Essien for his goal from a magnificent Lampard shot, and a nicely crafted team goal put away by Drog for our second. We are through.

Fantastic game by Juve though. They were tough, and very talented, but having a man sent off made it very difficult for them.

I hope Platini enjoyed himself tonight watching 2 English teams go through. He must be really pissed (Y)

It only gets tougher from now on. With Essien back, Hiddink should find a better formation to accommodate him. We were way too narrow in the early 30 minutes, once we re-adjusted to 4-3-3 we looked a more stable unit. I think Hiddink needs to drop Ballack and see how it goes with Essien, Lamps and Mikel aided by Kalou or any other creative playmaker(we haven't got many left). Terry managed to keep himself out of trouble, so we'll be having no suspensions for the next round.

Ballack did his part. He played well, helped Essien maintain order in the midfield. What more would you ask from him? He was denied that late chance he had but that is more Buffons merit than his wrong doings.

As far as the game goes you guys are lucky. Juve played exceptionally well and would have deserved to go through as much as you did. I really can't believe how retarded Ranieri looks at times. How can you leave in the bench a talent of Govincos stature? The kid is awesome and when he got in he letterally made Chelseas defense sweat.

Yeah that little bloke is special alright. 5 feet 3 inches tall and he's pretty amazing. He had me very worried from the moment he came on.

and you're right, the game could have gone either way. Tonight it went our way.

I think we all agree that Juve's got an exciting prospect, it was unfortunate for the neutrals at least, that he didn't play a bigger part in this tie. Loved the dummy he did to fool the Boss. For a small bloke, he caused havoc in our defense.
Just re-watched the highlights. Great game of football all around, but bad refereeing stopped it from being even better.
Nevertheless, we made it through unscathed, and our squad is also almost back to full strength(with the exception of Joey). The best is yet to come.

Congrats despite Cech winning the game for you yet again. Juve should've won but hey sometimes luck and Superman goalkeeping gets you the win.
