So much drama in that game. Everton scored in the last minute of the extra time to send them to the shootout.

Anelka does it again. Last time he did that, Chelsea lost the UCL shootout in 2008. When Ashley took the penalty, I always had a feeling he was gonna miss. I don't know why.

Ancelotti is in deep **** right now. Not doing well in the league and out of the FA Cup. That too after spending 75 millions on 2 players. Your only real chance now is the Champions league.

I don't think it'll be as simple as just sacking our manager and our problem just goes away.
I really can't believe we'd be this poor after what we showed last season. It's easy to make the manager the scapegoat with the way things are going, it really is. But who's going to be available and willing to work with the conditions set in Chelsea FC? Rafa Benitez is the only high profile manager available and that reason alone is making me want Carlo to stay. The best choice if Carlo decides to leave or gets sacked is probably Guus Hiddink because the way he changed the atmosphere of the team. But he's not available.

I mean, previously I always had this confident feeling of us eventually pulling through in the end, but not this season. Once Baines' free-kick went in, I instantly thought, here we go again.

Penalties have never been our forte but because of that we really should've made sure to kill off the match. Lack of concentration and a stupid foul at the end cost us this game, and that's the story of our season so far. Mikel, Essien have been awful in DM this season.

Back to the original point, the fact is any manager coming in to this club will realize that they won't have control over the things they'd like. Sure' they'd go out to the press and say they're content with just managing the players and picking out the team, but I don't think that's the entire truth. We could try to bring Jose back but it'll be only a season and half before he starts bickering with the board and Roman again.

The sacking of Wilkins just prove that there are things going on behind the scenes and any manager coming in will have to face up with that. As far as the team's performance goes, I think Carlo could make some ruthless decisions but I do believe he's too attached to his players to tell them that they're past it.

I thought Drogba was really frustrating today, sure he tried to make things happen but I really think he was a liability in our attack, particularly in the first half when he just hobbled continuously while Carlo was contemplating to change him in the space of 10-15 minutes or so. From what I've heard malaria does take a lot out of you, and players not being the same after they suffered from it, e.g - Kolo Toure.

With Sturridge doing so well at Bolton I can't help but think we made a mistake of not keeping him this season, he didn't even have a sniff of chance at being first team with Carlo, I really don't want to see another case of Gourcuff(Milan) happening here.

Hopefully now the FA Cup gone, we can focus our energies on getting back 4th spot. Champions League is a different story altogether, we've never won it so hopefully that can become the impetus for the players, who seemingly have lost the drive and determination in all the local competitions.

I didn't say Ancelotti should leave. IMO he SHOULD stay. He is a great manager and going for another manager would most likely be a step down. He hasn't been given enough time imo.

Oh and tits.
it saddens me saying this but ur Chelsea may win the CL this season.this is your best opportunity as other clubs except manu and real madrid looks like to have more flaws.and about the ancelotti he is most probably already in rome after the take over is completed.

It's comical how football can change one's reputation. Just look at Rafa Benitez, a revered hero at Liverpool and later got the club in a terrible position. His small time at Inter didn't excatly help.

Samething going on with Carlo Ancelotti. One season, champions and winning the Double and the next, fans want him gone. Show more respect for crying out loud. This man has brought you titles and that's worth crap to you only because they're doing poorly now? The problem is not Ancelotti and sacking him would be a mistake.

VanTheMan

You'd better behave yourself this time!
seriously, 1 amazing season and the second a big flop means you get the manager out ?
managers are 30% responsible for the results and practically its the players who are at fault
letting ballack, joe cole, carvalho was a big mistake IMO.

theres a reason why Man United are so successful , the board always kept faith in Fergie..
look where we are now...

What the heck are you people reading in here? No one said we wanted Carlo out. The only thing being discussed is the potential scenario that might happen to the club if he gets sacked.

Plus it was only me that was posting as a Chelsea fan in the aftermath of the Everton game.
The first dude who mentioned Ancelotti being on his way out was one of yer Utd mates.

Sheesh.

We are talking to the Chelsea fans who do want him out. You can't deny that there aren't any.

Well, you're barking up the wrong tree here.
Maybe you should head to the cfcnet forums. Plenty of cynical fans there.

I dunno if we deserved that, but I'll take it. We did push them back (or they retreated back) in the 2nd half, but when ManU were better they were much better. Luiz played well but he can't risk a red like that, much less on the half-way line. Torres still not doing much, but he doesn't get much service either. We're a team that just stuffs the opposition back and with a lot of players forward we look to score. He'll benefit a lot when Yossi gets back and starts playing, he can provide a good link between Torres and the rest. Ramires was actually my favorite player in midfield, and I'm glad to see Zhirkov back, he's a good backup and offers something different on the left, where Malou and Cole have seemed lethargic recently.

Not very enthused about playing a 4-4-2, but 2 in 2 with it, so I won't complain. Got 4th, and could get 3rd because City have played one more match, and that should be our objective. That, and a good run in the CL. We're not playing well, but if we (hopefully, so I'll get to watch live) draw Valencia, we could be looking at a semifinal spot without facing a tournie favorite, and by then, hopefully Torres will click, the team will shift gears, and we could actually challenge for the CL. That's me being hugely optimistic not even hour after being sure we'd end up playing Europa League next year.

And let's be clear, we didn't play well, we're not safe yet.

Yeah dude, Malouda looked like ****. He has a style and plays a position where age can catch up to him real fast, so I'd be worried.

I also agree and hope that Carlo drops Malouda and replace him with Zhirkov already. He's done it with Drogba to good effect.
We were outplayed in the 1st half, but as usual we picked it up in the 2nd but you also have to take into account that Utd sat back which backfired them.

Well taken volley by Luiz who was magnificent but a bit lucky to get away with the trip on Rooney. A bit cynical from him, almost like Ballack, who always got away with those types of challenges.

Drogba coming on looked good, absolutely gave everything we needed to defend the lead once we got it.
Ramires put on a good display as well. He's definitely settled in, can't say the same for Torres but Carlo kept him for 90mins which should help him somewhat.

3rd place is looking more realistic now. Arsenal have to play Spurs and would probably have Fabregas back by then, so a draw in that would do us nicely.

Lamps with a penalty, goal and corner assist to beat Blackpool. Set up a small buffer away from Spurs, and if we win our extra match we will be 3rd above City, 6 points off Utd (that's 3 if we beat them), who still have to face 2nd placed Arsenal, as well.

I'm realistically hoping for 3rd place, but the recently-emerged optimist in me can't help but envision us closing the gap and lifting the title (underservedly mind, although I wouldn't say any team in England really deserves it right now). We're also pretty assured of a quarter spot (fingers crossed for Valencia) in the CL, where we COULD, again, unrealistically, have a good run.

Torres and Drogba or Torres and ANYONE need to start clicking. He needs to score soon or he'll start to feel that 50m price tag as if it was literally on his shoulders.

I think you underestimate Valencia. I'd rather draw Shaktar, Roma, Marseille, or Schalke in your shoes. In previous seasons I would have agreed with you, but Valencia have impressed me this season, especially given that they no longer have Villa.
