I reckon Liverpool will win 2-0. Heres hoping that the atmosphere at Anfield intimidates Benfica like it did with Juve last season

I don't know, I'm not feeling very confident about this... I'll say 2-0, but that's quite a dangerous scoreline...

Benfica feared by the atmosphere? they faced that kind of atmosphere and even worse everytime they visit porto in the league so i don't think that can be a decisive factor. the away sector will be filled with 2500 benfica supporters, and could be 6000 or 7000 if uefa had given benfica that amount...

Yeah but then you could always say that Juve have such an atmosphere against teams like Roma, Lazio & either Milan team. It still got too them, it also the idea that Juve are more experienced.

(Maybe I'm just clutching at straws! :$)

we played absolute rubbish in the weekend, Karagounis got injured for a few days and is out for this match and Geovanni looks to be struggling for fitness still.

Hopefully Miccoli has a good outing, because the rest of the attack is looking absolute sh*te at the moment with Simao in piss poor form since the christmas (maybe he got pissed with us not letting him leave) and Nuno Gomes going through a confidence crisis in front of goal.

As Karagounis is out Koeman will definitely play his usual defensive tactics 4 3 2 1. With 3 defensive midfielders. Probably even one of our usual fullbacks as winger.

I'm not confident, we will only get through if our defence is on one of those days when nothing gets past.

Even so I can see Liverpool going through with a dodgy penalty or that sort of thing. We really have bad luck with that stuff in big moments.

Liverpool - Juve was a different game than this one for obvious reasons... remember this?

as for karagounis, he was called for the team...

Moretto, Quim, Luisão, Léo, Anderson, Alcides, Ricardo Rocha, Nélson, Petit, Karagounis, Manuel Fernandes, Beto, Karyaka, Geovanni, Simão, Laurent Robert, Marcel, Nuno Gomes e Miccoli.

Damn... my 600th post... :shades:

I'm confident of a 1-1 draw... i think Benfica will pass this test...

But if not, at least i expect a good performance by the team!

I sure hope Koeman doesn't decide to play Marcel, he's been about as impressive as Moretto since signing for us. Even in bad form, Nuno Gomes is still the way to go IMO...he's got experience, and he can still pull a decisive goal out of his ass now and then.

i'm confident that our defence will hold the first minutes of constant attack from Liverpool and in a counter-attack we can score and decide the game. we are strong playing in great atmospheres and when we are the underdogs. generally we have more difficulties when we are clearly strong than the opponents because the teams close themselves in the defence. we have players that are masters in counter-attack like Simão and Geovanni , they could be decisive wednesday.

i say 1-1, with Geovanni scoring the 0-1 in the second half.

Exactly. Remember the game agaisnt France in Euro 2000? (we still got eliminated but it wasn't his fault *cof* Xavier *cof*) And Spain in the Euro 2004. Nuno Gomes is way better than Marcel even consediring he may not be so confident in front of goal right now. I surely wouldn't doubt for 1 second if I had to choose. But Koeman will field him, I just hope Miccoli is a starter as well.

I hope than Liverpool go through, hopefully Benitez won't display one of his strange lineups (example: no Gerrard or no Luis Garcia)

believe me, nobody beats Koeman for strange lineups....remember, this is the guy who insists on putting Beto (probably the worst professional footballer in Europe) in the starting line-up :\

A packed Anfield with Pool fans is pretty fearsome i must say. Especially when the team scores, the camera shakes, makes me think the stadium will go down.

That doesn´t really matter nowadays. Benfica´s stadium and their european nights are known as the "Inferno da Luz", Luz infernum and they have far more capacity in the stands. Nowadays professional footballers aren´t so influenciated by that.
Benfica will have to hold the first 30 mins, unfortunately i think Liverpool is more experienced and will go through, but hey, anything can happen.

any Benfica team that survive in a travel to Dragão Stadium and win the game can stand with any atmosphere in the world believe me and like Vinnie Jones said we have one of the best atmospheres in the world too and the players are used to it, honestly i'm not concerned about the crowd, i'm worried only with Liverpool value as a team.
