Club or Country? Whose side are you on?

Hello all,

After reading the article regarding the lawsuit between Fifa and Charleroi, I was wondering if the verdict from this case would change the national game forever or if the upcoming verdict is being blown out of proportion.

Discuss.

I prefer french dressing if truth be told.

But seriously now... playing international football used to be an honour now its an inconvience. If the player in question truely loved his country and representing his country, then he would gladly accept taking a barrage of M-16 bullets to his chest whilst on international duty.

I don't see why the club are persuing this, unless the player in question wants to do so...

So how about we just stop all those who simply don't want to play for their national teams? Or those who are apathetic and care more about their club wages than the honour and distinction to represent the nation of their fore-fathers.

Better yet, why don't we just let the women play for the men's major international teams instead - they seem to enjoy it more...

Regarding this issue, I really hope they can achieve some sort of middle ground somehow.

But in terms of if it did come to the crunch (which it probably won't), then I'd have to say club football :)

I think of the issues raised before, was that UEFA should front the club's compensation if a player comes back injured from international duty.

Pragmatically, I guess you could sue if an employer of yours gets loaned out to another company and gets injured as a result of his or her's actions whilst at that company.

However this all far too technical and cold, when it comes down to something like representing for your country. As I've said before you should be willing to put yourself in the line for your country. The circumstances of getting injured whilst playing for your nation should be no different as to when it happens for your club. I just don't see what the specific differences are exactly, unless they feel as if the tempo, travel, weather and opposition would somehow be detrimental to their wellbeing when they take to a football field.

This will only open up more legislation that allows clubs to sue clubs or players who injure their players, and possibly even as far as the groundstaff for the dodgy pitch which attributed to that pulled hamstring.

It just won't end, so its best not to allow this to happen, imo.

If a player is hurt in a friendly the FA should have to pay his entire wage for the duration of his injury.

FIFA should take out insurence policies in major competitions.

There's too much international football these days... all the friendlies and qualifiers against crappy teams really saturates the overall quality.

I'm pretty certain that most players (probably almost 100%) are more than willing to "put themselves on the line" for the national side.

The problem lies with the clubs. They're the ones being ripped off with the current situation, they are absolutely right to be pissed off.

Look no further than Owen's case for the best example closest to home.

Country. But i believe clubs should be compensated in case of any occuring injuries at international level. At least injuries that happened on friendlies.

Not quite sure, I will say however that players getting injured on BS international friendlies is just ******* stupid and the clubs deserve compensation. I don't know why FIFA's always out to saturate the football fixtures calender.

Firstly club. Secondly, it's ridiculous that clubs want compensation for players injured during international duty. Imagine if Henry was injured playing for Arsenal, would Arsenal pay compensation to the French FA because he can't be selected?
