Co Adriaanse new FC Porto coach

It's a great club for Adriaanse, and I hope the rumours are true. He deserves a second chance to prove he's able to work at a big-name club. It will be interesting to see if he's able to manage Porto better than he did with Ajax in 2001. I believe he has the qualities needed, if only he keeps cool.

Finaly, ever since I started to follow AZ a bit, I hoped this man could one day be our next coach
Dream might come true one of these days... :)

**** this... what else has Carlos Brito to do to be worth a try? And I really don't like Couceiro, but has he had a real chance? No! Give the man a chance!
This is becoming ridiculous. Porto is starting to look like Benfica a few years ago: a coaches cemetery...

Hell, I'd love Brito too, but we know how SAD works atm
Finaly they choose a *more than* decent foreign coach, so I'm happy

I want to give Zé II another chance too, but I wouldn't mind him leaving at the end of the season

This is the difference between a big team and a BIG team.

It doesn't matter how much you win. It matters how you deal with winning.

Now, take your conclusions.

Yeah, take a look at what happened with Benfica after that great team of the early 90's you had.
Now that's good dealing with winning... 10 years...

This is probably the wisest decision by Porto all season...

Carlos Brito?? I like him too but he'd just be Couceiro #2, coaches like that are good for Setubal and Rio Ave, clubs who's aspirations are to not get relegated, therefore when they have a good season and are close to qualifying for Europe the coach is seen as brilliant.

Nice one..

That's the second time you've mentioned Benfica in a clearly FC Porto-related thread.....everything's always about Benfica, isn't it?

...and btw, 10 years is a mere hiccup in our long succesful history, we'll see where Porto is in 10 years from now.

You're not the first person I know comparing Brito to Couceiro and Pontes kind...
That's not what I see in Brito.
1- I see in him a Portista that was celebrating the champions league in the streets last year (in Aliados) with all the other portistas there!
2- I see a guy with his own personality. He's not a good talker. He simply does his job. He's nothing like Mourinho and his clones. We need a coach with his own personality now.
3- I see a guy that makes his team do more than expected every year. I mean, take a look at Rio Ave team: their players suck!! Tell me how many good players they have there! And don't forget that their star (Ricardo Nascimento) isn't there anymore since December. And look at how the team reacted to the transfer: amazingly!
4- I see in Brito a guy that really knows how to discipline his players. Have you seen the game against Benfica? Do you remeber on play (on the 70th or 80th minutes where Saulo tried pass a Benfica defender with a 1-1 play when he had Gaucho (I think) alone on his left side... he lost the ball. They filmed Brito next, he was out of his mind telling the players something like this (if my lips reading skills are still good :D) : "Saulo!! OH Saulo!! Ò meu filho da puta!!!! Passa a puta da bola ou sentas o cú no banco!"
Harsh? Yeah!!! Sure it was!!! Now remember who made the cross a few minutes later to the winning goal... yep, you guessed: Saulo... he crossed instead of trying another "bonito".
That is the kind of coach Porto needs, not an intelectual of football. We need all those brazilian kids to learn that in Porto there is no place for I in Us.
Brito would fit perfectly.

The first time I was trying to make a comparison with Benfica's last decade with coaching changes.

The second time I mentioned it was because someone came to a Porto related thread making smart remarks about big and BIG clubs... and look who was it...

Now, is it really my fault?
:P

haha 3 years contract, another big fat paycheck incoming when they fire him next year if he gets to the end of the season (unlikely)

Yes, everything is a Portista's fault, haven't you realized that yet? :funny:
Damn... I thought it was always Paulo Portas fault. :P

Btw, Virgo, I also thought of that the first time I read this thread... 3 years? When was the last time a coach lasted 3 years in Porto? I think it was Fernando Santos... damn, that was a long time ago already, and I wish he only lasted 1 year :P
The man managed to loose the liga with a team that had Jardel at the time!!

How can you not be pleased with getting Co Adriaanse? He is clearly better than Couceiro. Couceiro was a bad call. What has Couceiro done in his career before he joined Porto? He got relegated with Alverca and he was able to make a regular first half of season with Setúbal. Couceiro isn´t a coach, he doesn´t have the ability or the tactical knowledge to run a big team. From what i have read, Couceiro will become some sort of Football director and that´s clearly the task he is suited for. He is one of the prime advisors of that First international football fund and they had positive results thanks to his work and advices.
About Carlos Brito, im not going to dismiss his ability and the potencial he shows managing a club like Rio Ave but put yourself in Pinto da Costa position. He needs to get an experienced coach like Adriaanse, who has the ability to build teams without big budgets and if you get Co, you will rebuild your team without that Brazilian monopoly we see at Porto currently. Co Adriaanse is a very professional and disciplined (perfect to handle players like Quaresma and Diego) coach (the opposite of Del Neri) with attacking mentality.
Carlos Brito is one of the best coachs in the Superliga but we know what happened when he joined Estrela da Amadora. He needs to coach another club successfully besides Rio Ave (there are many rumours linking him with a move to Marítimo) before having a chance to coach a club like Fc Porto. Pinto da Costa can´t afford to fail again and he picked one of the best coaching prospects in Europe.
