Co Adriaanse new FC Porto coach

Why do you need a coach with Superliga knowledge? That´s so subjective. Did Trappatoni had any before he joined Benfica? Aren´t you guys leading the championship? Did Boloni had any knowledge? . May i remind you that Benfica, Fc Porto and Sporting had alot of coaches with your so called Superliga knowledge and look at what happened (specially Benfica in the last 10 years).
Sometimes it´s better to have coachs without the "vícios deste campeonato" and with different mentality.

yeah, that's true...too many Portuguese coaches still have the typical Portuguese mentality...only Brazilians are good players, blame everything on the refs, making up bizarre conspiracy theories to explain why they suck at coaching, etc, etc...

I just think it's too bad that Adriaanse isn't replacing Trap at the end of the season.

seriously guys, why adriaanse and not brito? both manage small clubs with a great work.

That's a good point, although Adriaanse has obviously the experience in Europe that Brito does not.
But the fact of Brito being familiarized with our football, and being a Porto fan (good for him btw(H)) gives him the edge over anyone who is to eventually succeed Couceiro.

Vinnie how can you not think that the fact of Brito knowing our league has an important weight in this situation? It is clearly a good thing for a club..you mention Trap as an example to prove it isn't important, I don't really think he has done a great job at Benfica so far, there were even times in the season when Benfica fans would be happy if he left as the team was sucking..lucky enough for them so was Porto and Sporting or else he wouldn't be so consensual between the supporters now.

Anyway I strongly believe Brito would be good enough..but Couceiro hasn't had the time and mainly the peace he needs to build the team he wants for his future at the club..right now we are shattered, the players don't have the mental capacity to overcome any stepback in a game.. he sucks so far, but I would definitely give him another season at the club.

If that doesn't come to happen, too bad for him and Carlos*pot for Brito

I said that the so called Superliga knowledge is something subjective in what concerns the success of a coach. I think that the ability and the experience are the key elements. If you want someone with extensive Superliga knowledge get Manuel Oliveira from the Radio Renascença ranks. Do you honestly expect that if Co Adriaanse comes here, that he won´t make an effort in knowning and understanding the new reality that he faces? That he won´t meet Porto scouts or his own and discuss matters? I am rather skeptical about Brito although i know that he is indeed one of the best coaches in the Superliga. But im still waiting to see what he is going to achieve out of that Rio Ave enviromnet that he knows so well and where he is completely adapted. In Estrela da Amadora he failed miserably. Carlos Brito can be an answer to the future, Co Adriaanse can make the imediate impact that Pinto da Costa seeks. We can´t even compare both careers since Adriaanse has obviously the edge now.

No. He had the best Jardel and the best João Pinto.
That was enough to win everything in Portugal.
We were champions despite of Boloni. Just see what happened the season after that one.

He's a great coach and I see him do great things with Porto. I think the Portugese kind of play will suit him because it's not that different from the Dutch way of thinking. He likes to play attacking and often risky football.

Question: will Porto let him spend on new players?

porto has a samba school now...i don't what you're talkin about when you say players...

anyway, we've just spent another €10,5 million on lucho gonzález and another argentine.....i don't get the point...the coach should pick the players...not the president,..some times i don't understand pinto da costa:rolleyes:

I think Adriaanse's first job at Porto is to get rid of existing dead weight. There are players there who are just there to pick up a paycheck and nothing else...Luis Fabiano & friends to be exact.

You're not the first person I know comparing Brito to Couceiro and Pontes kind...
That's not what I see in Brito.
1- I see in him a Portista that was celebrating the champions league in the streets last year (in Aliados) with all the other portistas there!
2- I see a guy with his own personality. He's not a good talker. He simply does his job. He's nothing like Mourinho and his clones. We need a coach with his own personality now.
3- I see a guy that makes his team do more than expected every year. I mean, take a look at Rio Ave team: their players suck!! Tell me how many good players they have there! And don't forget that their star (Ricardo Nascimento) isn't there anymore since December. And look at how the team reacted to the transfer: amazingly!
4- I see in Brito a guy that really knows how to discipline his players. Have you seen the game against Benfica? Do you remeber on play (on the 70th or 80th minutes where Saulo tried pass a Benfica defender with a 1-1 play when he had Gaucho (I think) alone on his left side... he lost the ball. They filmed Brito next, he was out of his mind telling the players something like this (if my lips reading skills are still good :D) : "Saulo!! OH Saulo!! Ò meu filho da puta!!!! Passa a puta da bola ou sentas o cú no banco!"
Harsh? Yeah!!! Sure it was!!! Now remember who made the cross a few minutes later to the winning goal... yep, you guessed: Saulo... he crossed instead of trying another "bonito".
That is the kind of coach Porto needs, not an intelectual of football. We need all those brazilian kids to learn that in Porto there is no place for I in Us.
Brito would fit perfectly.

Agree 100%. (Y)

1- I mentioned this fact a couple times at SG. Did you see him too celebrating?
Brito is the kind of honest, hard-working but also strict coach we need. He's a 'caxineiro' too, right?

About Couceiro, rumour says he'll stay at Porto, in a job more suited to his personna: director of the football dep., or something along those lines.
Truth is, before he came we were still in CL contention and ahead of the title race. Look where we are now...

About Adriaanse, he seems perfect to fill the 'pre-season coach' spot. That's a Del Neri joke, for those not paying attention.
