Copa Toyota Libertadores of America 2006

El Diablo Rojo

Starting XI
So we have the round of 16 now with some interesing matches. It's a pity that none of the teams of Venezuela made it to the round of 16, well maybe next year. So the matches will be.

Vélez Sarsfield(ARG) vs. Newell's Old Boys(ARG)
Internacional(BRA) vs. Nacional(URU)
River Plate(BRA) vs. Corinthians(BRA)
São Paulo FC(BRA) vs. Palmeiras(BRA)
Goias EC(BRA) vs. Estudiantes LP(ARG) <-- Should be an interesting match too.
Libertad(PAR) vs. Tigres UANL(MEX)
Atlético Nacional(COL) vs. LDU Quito(ECU) <-- Another tough one.
Independiente Santa Fe vs. Chivas Guadalajara

So there are 5 teams from Brazil, 4 from Argentina, 2 from Colombia, 2 from Mexico, 1 from Paraguay, 1 from Uruguay and 1 from Ecuador. So the countries that didn't get any single team on the round of 16 are: Bolivia, Chile Peru and Venezuela.

Vélez-Newell's, São Paulo-Palmeiras, River-Corinthians, Goias-Estudiantes and Atlétito-LDU look like interesting matches to see.

Is it me or both Newell's' and River's Zapata are scoring a lot lately?

Yes, and i would add Newel's vs. Velez the two argentine champions of the 2004/2005 season.

Im praying that Mascherano gets a cold or something in the stomach...

This is how the libertadores is now.

I think the other key is more difficult than ours, if we get past el Timao of course...

In our key Atletico Nacional and Nacional are the only teams that won the Libertadores, i the other key you have Velez, Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Estudiantes.

Interesting...as for our next opponent, well...

(22/04 - Brazilian League 2nd Round) Figueirense 6 - 1 Palmeiras

Can't wait for another firing next Wedenesday ;) .

Em...for the moment, let's ignore my derogatory remarks on Chivas before they beat us away and home.

On the other hand, we have just lost 1-0 to Fortaleza away. We spared most of our starting lineup, and that's exactly what is the most aggravating - do we really need to get lax about the League just like last year, and so damn early?

As Axolote pointed out, we've got the hardest key here. The draw has a couple of oddities - one key has two domestic matches, and the other one pairs its strongest title contsestants on Round of 16. Corinthians - River promises to be very interesting (even when one wishes to support against both teams, hehehe...). I'm just wondering, how will Mascherano be recieved at Buenos Aires?

Atl. Nacional :ewan: One Libertadores winner going home early...

Estudiantes play every game like its the last of their life...and they score in the last minutes of every match...being an Estudiantes fan now its dangerous for your heart :)

I thought that Diego Galvan will show a shirt that said ''For you Mostaza!!!''

Is Goias really from Brazil...? They made like 10 fouls in 20 minutes and didnt shoot once. They are tough but to win you have to score at least one goal..!!!

The first day of the round of 16 had quite entertaining matches.
Yes Axolote, to win you should score at least a goal, but now Goias will have to score 3, at their stadium but still. Estudiantes deserved to win and eventually did it, more likely justice have been done on this match which was very entertaining to watch.

Estudiantes' 1st goal.
Liga's 4th goal.

Goias is always much tougher at home, so maybe they were only hoping to avoid damage in Argentina. being 2-0 down is bad though, can't see them coming back to win.

Big games today, make sure you try to catch them!
That is, of-course, if you like good football.
If you like "0-0's", don't bother.... :p

Farias equalizes with a half-assed bycicle kick.

EDIT
2-1 :wootman:

Ferrari (who ironically should have been sent off after that tackle on Mascherano) scores in a nice solo effort.

good stuff :rockman:

lame defending by Corinthians...

Also, that Ferrari guy should have been sent off before his goal for his challenge on Mascherano.... if they're going to get Tevez worse than that, he won't play football ever again...

oh, and Coelho........ :kader:

wtf is Rubens Junior doing in Corinthians anyway?
he played for Porto a few years ago and never settled in the club because he definitely lacked quality.
I'm quite surprised Corinthians picked him up.

Great game by Farias so far, he could have scored more than one.
Tevez is having a nice match, by far best Corinthians player in the pitch.

I'm really enjoying to watch this, hope the 2nd half turns out to be at least as good as the first one :jap:

Kibe Kru

Starting XI
He's only playing because Gustavo Nery is injured. He did quite well in recent matches though, but he's no more than backup.

Nilmar isn't having the best of matches, but he's usually great and he's scored a load of goals this season.

Great game so far.

Tevez, dios mio, what a goal...

Corinthians really need to score one more though, or is going to get complicated for them in Brazil.

The earlier game was also great, but really, how was it possible for both teams to end with all their players on the field?
There must have been like 3 fouls a minute!
They even fouled in ways I never had thought possible! :fool:

Brazilian team on Brazilian team game = Karate competition.
