Univision is better depending on who is doing the commentaries. Borja is doing a good job. But I cannot stand Pablo Ramirez or whatever his name is. The guy who did the commentaries for Ger vs CRC. And I'm 99.9% sure he is going to do the commentaries for all the Mexico games. He might get the Argentina game today which is gonna suck. And he might get the US games.

the only problem I've had so far is on ABC HD there was like a 8 second delay between the game and the sound. Not only was it annoying but it took the atmosphere away from the game. I hope they fix this soon because I'm having to watch it on regular ABC just so I could here the crowd reactions and commentary at the right times.

Univision has by far the best coverage of the WC. They do half an hour of analyzing before each game studying the teams. The IMAGE is also better on the channel. If you switch back and forth between Univision and espn, it is clear they have the better picture. The commentary is better, i just heard that spanish guy from GolTV on univision. he did a very nice job with the sweden t and t game. And yea there is like an 8 sec delay on espn and abc.

Im not saying they suck. They actually get props for showing every game, BUT they should learn from univision to see how much better it is.

I don't see what the problem is, the announcers are servicable, I'm a big Eric Wynalda and Alexi Lalas fan, hate Julie Foudy, but generally like their halftime show. What pregame coverage are you expecting from TV? No matter what they do, you can get it better on the internet. And they're broadcasting every game.

Don't let your grudge about the Champions League taint your view of the World Cup, because ESPN/ABC (it's the same thing by the way guys, both owned by Disney and use the same people) has done one heck of a job so far in my opinion.

Yea, im not saying the coverage sucks and they shouldnt do it. I just think univision has done a better job with it thats all. And dont get me started about Setnanta sports. They have the worst coverage of the world cup by far. not only are all the games in german but the sound is HORRIBLE!!!!

I agree with you that there doing a pretty good job so far, but are you getting the 8 second audio delay on ABC HD?

Be fortunate that you guys can get the games in HD. My local ABC station forgot to switch over to the HD feed on their HD channel for Sweden v. Trinidad and Tobago. On top of that, my cable company doesn't have ESPN2 HD, and there are no signs that they'll add it anytime soon.

The delay of the ABC station is due to the local stations. The national ABC feed is fine in both SD and HD.

Could be anything like equipment compatiblity or issues with 5.1 sourround sound.

The reason I say this is I get 2 different ABC feeds from 2 cities and one was delayed and the other was fine.

The HD games are great can wait to record them the HDDVD.

Then you must of never seen HD before, it was made for sports it just gives you a clearer picture and the wider angle it's great to see how play will develop, and better to spot offsides. With the MSL and LaLiga already in HD, and the EPL and Bundisliga(sp?) starting this season, and possibly the Serie A, it will be great.

By the way Hollywood films are done on raw film then downconverted and cropped to HD, they don't look has good has the movie theaters.

I'm with Charter Communications, the cable company from hell, and they don't have it either. DISHNetwork and DirecTV have ESPN2HD. I heard that even Comcast added ESPN2HD right before the World Cup. I sent them an email asking about it two days ago and I haven't gotten a response.

Yeah, I hate seeing everything perfectly clear as if I was standing in the stadium too. For example, Maurice Williams who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, my hometown basketball team, I always thought just had birthmarks all over his body or bad skin or something. I've been to the arena and seen numerous games on regular TV. I watched one game on HD and realized that he's just really really hairy.

Yeah, and the other bad about thing about HDTV - you can see a lot more of the length of the field because of the widescreen. There's no way that could possibly make the games more entertaining to watch, or make you feel like you're actually at the stadium.

When my dad was in highschool/college and even after that he had to watch the games on like 10" diameter tv's that were hooked up to car batteries because the f*cking communists wouldn't show it. So please stop whinning like the little pussies that you are.

I've got to agree with the other guys in this thread, sports in HD is good. Football in HD is great. WC 2006 in HD is heaven. I could care less about the overlays and the sometimes shoddy coverage. The picture makes up for all.

ESPN has no business covering the WC and never have. Tournament after tournament they show no regard for the sport, no national anthems, no buildup and their on screen graphics are a farce. The top is taken up by the score, time and sponsor while the bottom is filled by the stupid sport ticker. You can't concentrate on the game with this visual buggery and then they'll splash some huge graphic on regarding upcoming coverage or something obscuring the game. It's always been the same and worsens every time. I watch the coverage on Univision instead just to watch a clearer picture and not be assualted by dull stats repeated over and over. I suppose American are used to it but as a New Zealander over here I just cringe and remember the days of Martin Tyler and can only laugh at Tommy Shyte.

I agree 100%, everything from the presentation and commentry purely sucks on espn, If you can catch sbs in NZL i would watch that, Martin Tyler covers most of the game and their presentation is much better.

These americans only talk about how usa needs to beat czech republic and how usa is so good. during the austraillia japan game if they werent talking about america they were talking about harry kewel's groin half the screen was taking up by usa's scheduale or next match they need to get some commentators that actually talk about the game instead of usa i've noticed american commentators show more enthusiasm talking about usa's next game instead of the game playing rite then and there sumthing needs to change

The faster the US is out the less they will waste time showing the US related clips in the middle of a matches.
