Not really. Maxi Lopez never really scored a lot of goals in any of the tournaments. His best game that made his reputation was in the superclasico from the last Clausura. Best game I've ever seen him play.(Y)

We signed Ernesto 'Tecla' Farias from Palermo who's playing great for us and Sand or Salas(when healthy) partner him.

BTW, I hope Gaby Mililto goes to Barca, he deserves the opportunity to humiliate R. Madrid. The fans of Madrid on this forum also deserve to feel the humiliation, they tried to justify his not signing him with their bogus claims and then their club goes out and signs Woodgate for more then double what Milito would've cost.

Maxi has more potential than present, in 1 or 2 years he could be great.

Milito is great. But i would like see Ayala wearing that shirt, imagine Samuel vs. Ayala in the clasico..!!! uuuff...

it was one lapse in concentration. just ONE. yes, it happened to be the most important game of the season, but it was still one game. it was the first time all season that our defence let us down, that doesn't make our defence suck. it just means that they failed once.

we don't want to become like teams like real madrid and chelsea, who find replacements for positions left and right just because they can. we need to show faith in our players, especially if they've been outstanding all season and messed up for a brief spell in one game.

also, marquez's injury was hugely responsible for what happened in those first 20 minutes, and it was our bad luck that he got injured before the chelsea game. had his injury come before any other game, our defence would still have struggled initially because they were so used to the cover he provided.

Controlled euphoria

Frank Rijkaard has responded to several stories claiming that there is a huge feeling of euphoria in the Barcelona dressing room. The Dutch coach has said that "the moment of euphoria has now passed".

After chatting to his players, Frank Rijkaard claims that the euphoria is under control and that his men "are only thinking about the important game ahead of us at Riazor". The FC Barcelona boss feels that the trip to La Coruña has come at the right time, because the opposition is a side that plays very good football and is "on form", which will provide his players with the motivation they need.

Memories of a year ago

The Barcelona manager has fond memories of the last time the sides met in Galicia. The team had just been strengthened by the incorporation of Edgar Davids, and had started an impressive run that would take the side to second place in the league table after a slow start to the season. Barça won 2-3 that day, as Rijkaard remembers: "we won last year and the first half was especially memorable. We were winning 0-2 but in the second half, although we went 0-3 up, we suffered after Motta was sent off. Last year's experience should be a warning to us to be careful."

Depor on form

Deportivo La Coruña is a side that has got better as the season has gone by. After a highly irregular start to their campaign, especially at home, the team being coached for the seventh successive season by Javier Irureta is now enjoying its finest period of the season. Without playing particularly spectacular football, the Galicians are unbeaten in four matches. Rijkaard believes it is a good thing that both sides are on form. "I like it. It's good for football. It's good for spectators to watch two sides that are playing well. We're going to have to be very careful and play seriously if want to take anything positive from La Coruña."

His other words

"We are finding that the pre-season camp in Peralada has brought results"

"I have always had the same opinion about respecting the opposition. We need to focus on ourselves and forget about other teams. I have never been worried about whether we play before Madrid or after. All I care about is doing our own job out on the pitch."

"I don't like speaking about anything apart from the work I am doing at the moment. I am honoured that Ajax is considering me as director of sports, but my job at Barcelona is very important and I'm not thinking about anything else."

i think it wasnt just one bad game by the defense. youve had many more games this season when the defense didnt cut it, but you had Valdes in goal to save you then, against Chelsea even Valdes couldnt do anything.

It wasn't just one game. There were more games, but I named the CL clash as the most obvious example. All our weaknesses were exposed for everyone to see. We have a very good defense, but it's not up to the hardest of tasks. Look at Milan and Juventus. They build everything on their defense. And while I hate that style of football, I do want us to enhance our defense.
We have the best and most spectacular attack in the world. An improved defense would make us everyone's worst nightmare.
Milan has the best defense IMO, but they score like, one or two in every match. We score a lot more. But we have to rely on our defense as well as on our attackers.

Remember the Atheltic match. We controlled everything, but in one minute, Bilbao could have scored two goals. And they would have if it hadn't been for Victor Valdes. Two goals in one minute.
Twice one-on-one with our keeper.
We can't win the CL like that.

Imagine if it had been Torres with those chances. Three pts down the drain.

Our defense isn't bad but we can't say that our defense is a wall. The injury of Márquez was so important that we can't depend of a player, we need good replacements too if we want to play more than one competition. We didn't have another CB on the bench. This season you looked at the bench and the only ones who could add something different were Iniesta and Larsson, the rest were Barça B players or players that can't make a substitution with guarantees. Rijkaard admitted about one week ago that there isn't a left-footed CB. When Puyol and Márquez had to play as CB, there have been problem with who played on the left. It's also a fact that we don't have a winger. Barça have a great team with awesome players but it isn't perfect. The players that would come could help a lot. If we want to fight for the CL we need more players and a better bench than this season. It's not that I hate our players and I have no confidence. We need depth, like any other team, because there are injuries, tiredness, etc.. Barça have a great squad but can be improved.

LOL. Deco almost scored another fluke.

I'm satisfied with the first half. Good football combined with a Barca lead is all I need. Good goal by Ludo, too. I'm glad he's back!
I'm very happy with how Puyol and Marquez are playing. But both have been booked so it will risky. I think all the defenders played very well individualy but we will concede if we continue with these offside traps. It barely works and Tristan won't fall for it every time. It's torture to watch that.

I hope we can maintain this. Depor has been unlucky so far.
