The goal itself is one of the best goals I've ever seen.

But this one is special for an obvious reason. Maradona's goal. Messi didn't score just another great goal. He emulated the goal of his idol, arguably the best goal of all time, and he did it in a Copa del Rey semifinal against a professional team that happens to be the best defence in la Liga. Not that it would be easy against Nastic anyway..

It's just unbelievable and I don't think this will happen ever again.

Historic.

Amazing goal...but...lets not forget that Maradona did it against England in the WC and Messi against a very poor team. There is a big difference.

Actually, Sevillista made a good point about that in the thread about the goal...

I would argue that a club like Getafe has a more resilient defence than a national team like England. This is nothing against England, it's just that club sides practice daily and play every week; the defenders have better understanding with each other. When a national team gets together it's hard to have that kind of cohesion on defence when they only practice together once in a great while and play matches even less.

I believe that most first-division teams in Europe could defeat the best of national teams.

Not saying that I agree with him about Getafe being better than England from 86, but about knowing each other and playing together, yes.

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist saying something negative OrgulloVikingo :D

Totally agree. I think that Sevillista point is really good. Indeed, if you have Getafe 07 against England 86, well...football changes a lot with the time, who knows the score of this imaginary macth..., so now is much more dificult to score goals, and more if you talk about a goal like the Messi´s one.

And about national teams, im really agree, is the only explanation when, for example, in the Spanish league, you have Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Torres, Villa, Morientes, Raúl, etc..etc...elite players that comes from Barça, Valencia, R.Madrid, etc...players that play really great in their clubs, but, when a national macth comes, seems that they play at 50%. And may be is for that say Sevillista, this lack of cohesion, not enough days together, etc.....is the only explanation, when you have a Spain - Serbia (nothing against Serbia, is an example), and Spain only can win 2-1 or may be draw 1-1.

So, for me, Messi´s goal have the same merit that Maradona´s one. Both are so great, nevermind where and when....is just brilliant.

Take care

Great goal, nothing can be taken away from him. It's kind of sick to imagine how much more he can improve. Will be the best player in the world, no doubt. Now send him over to us!:$

Now I can't wait to see the next game with REM.

The match against Getafe was fantastic. I love football for games like that. Xavi scored a brilliant goal, so elegant, only overshadowed by Messi's goal and then 3-0 with another great goal from Messi. The first half was a joy to watch. Then Getafe had two chances and scored twice in 3 minutes. 3-2 was a bad result. When I was still mad at the defence, Gudjohnsen scored after a corner kick and then Eto'o scored his goal, 5-2.

Depor-Sevilla 0-3, so if there are not surprises in the second leg, it will be a great final: Barça-Sevilla.

A matter of time. Each team goes through it. Barcelona were 5 years in the tomb not too long ago and now they are playing very good football and winning trophies. Every team has years in the tomb and years of glory...well, every big team. It's the ebb and flow of football. We'll be back eventually and it's great because when it comes we'll have more to rejoice about. I think winning every year for 20 years or so can become very dull. Take care Mind.(H)

Im agree in part. After follow the spanish league during years, is clear that every team has 3 or 4 great years (if you take a look on the La Liga winners you´ll know what i mean. So, i think that Barça will have 2 more great seasons as maximum.

On the other hand you have this "outside" time, when the team does not win anything, i dont find very normal that r.madrid brings 5 years without win anything, then, there´s a teams that can go outside of this "tomb" better than others. The last Barça tomb and the actually one of R.Madrid are really similar, kind of presidents, stars players, etc...but, honestly, i dont see madrid going out of this tomb so soon, neither this season neither next, they must to rebuild a lot of things (coach, directives, president, players, etc...). What i mean is that Barça comes stronger from death than Madrid, almost in the latest times.

About the last point, well, R.Madrid was winning near of 20 leagues, not each year, but very near, or in groups of 6, etc.., between 50´s and 70´s (i dont want to enter in a politic discussion with this point, you know what i mean, is only data), and i dont think that madrid fans were bored about to see his team winning often. If my team can win La Liga during 7 or 8 years i would sign for it man. But all in this life are cicles.

Anyway, you dont need to worry about it, while Casillas stay in r.madrid, nevermind how bad his team plays, is a life assurance, i´ll say more, i think that is this goalkeeper who wins really the games. Better for us, I preferd a more thriller league, like this one, with Barça, Sevilla, Valencia, Madrid, etc...than only a One to One like always.

Take care

I think we have agood core of young and relatively young players. Lets see.....Casillas is still very young for a Goalkeeper, Diarra, Robinho, Reyes, Ramos, Marcelo, Higuain, Gago, Torres, Soldado on loan, etc. I don't think it'll take more than 2 years to win a trophy. Very good point about Casillas.

This is agreat season for La Liga and spectators alike, regardless if Barca win or not. You know, we should both be happy that there is agreat rivalry between us....I think it's a huge huge reason why La Liga is sooo good and why it attracts people. The ying and yang of football in a way. I couldn't imagine not hating a club (in a sporting way) so much as I do Barca....it's unthinkable. Anyway, This season is very competitive. Nice to see a few teams fighting for it. Sevilla has too many games and are in all 3 competitions to win La Liga otherwise I think they would...IMO, they are better than Barca and have shown it when they play against them. My opinion of course.:jambo: Take care

Well, Diarra is not so young, Robinho is really good, but not Messi as time ago some people wanted to compare, Reyes...well, i dont think that he will offer something new to the team, etc... As i said, Casillas, and sure Ramos and Iguian are the best player in the team or the players that can offer something fresh, almost for me, they show that want to win something..., anyway Igua needs to play more to be confortable on the league. Yes, this league is the most competitive, any team can win to any team, no matter if is big or not, and that´s cool. About Sevilla, this team needs much much much years more to demostrate and show that is better than Barça (not only a couple of won macthes). Sevilla at the end will win the same or less titles than Barça this year. Is this topic, we are leaving teams that deserves more attention like Racing or Espanyol (this last one is doing a great season keeping in mind the team that they have). Nice league this year by the way.

I think Diarra is 24 or 25. By relatively young I mean players under 25 or so. We do have a nice young core of talent. (Kershakov just scored) Robinho will turn out to be awesome. Remember he plays in a team that is rebuilding, his manager Capello doesn't rate or like him. When Messi started playing regularly, barca were dominating already. he just joined in the party, it was relatively easy for him to shine with the chemistry of the team and p;layers like Ronaldinho around him. We, on the other hand were in shambles and too many things off and on the field affected everyone, especially young newcomers like Robinho. However, he has been really good for us this year. With a different coach and system, he will flourish for quite some time to come. That being said, I rate Messi higher so far.

About Sevilla, I mean that I feel they are the best team this year (I'm not talking about the last 2 years). (Puerta just scored) They are representing Spanish football well in UEFA cup. (I like how they wrapped the Spanish flag around the UEFA trophy when they won) At least they acknowledge their country and are not in denial. There is nothing wrong with that.

Lets go Villareal!

Yeah, Ronaldinho and Eto'o should have scored in the first half.

What a disappointment. It's the sixth away game that Barça lose this season.. quite pathetic tbh.

Neovico,
TThat's what you get. You wished defeat on us by Valencia and today you lose to Villareal! Good going. Damn, I just noticed that we have the 3rd best defense in La Liga. Take care "The Mind". You must be very smart with that nickname:nape:

messi dissapear in this game , deco was villarreal's best player, dinho and etoo played well, but those failed chances in the first half came and haunt us in the second, i am not sure if pires was onside on villarreals goal, but no matter, our defense looked like freaking amateurs in that play and in the second goal too.

anyways iam almost sure sevilla and madrid are going to pinch next week and we are going to win, and everything back to normal. story of this season. :)
