By the way, with Fabiano likely taking some time to adjust to the Superliga, would it not be wise of Porto to possibly use a 4-2-3-1 system? Maniche and Costinha as the DMs, although Maniche likes to go up, and then use Quaresma, Diego and maybe somebody else(Alberto, Ribeiro, Bosingwa, Costa)?
I'm sorry, I'm not all that familiar with the role players and bench, at least not until the season starts and I can watch the games. Just a suggestion, thanks for the quick response.

I know Fernandez likes the Mourinho system so a 4-4-2 is the most probable tactic.
He won't be experimenting with so little time left (he did it during the Valencia game and we know what happened) so prolly 4-4-2

Goo Goo boy i think you're overreacting about Nuno Valente, i mean, the guy is in a terrible shape ATM but he was one of the most regular players during the last 2 seasons when we won almost everything, don't forget what he did in a recent past, i bet it's just a matter of time until we see him again on shape. 
I agree with [[dfm]]! Nuno Valente is not a super fast defender, but he has a terrific tactical intelligence, and magnificent positioning. He was one of the best Portugal had during the Euro too.
Give him a few weeks to recover his form, and you'll see he's the best LB in Portugal!

I don't know Fabiano that well, at least not as well as Diego, Rossato and our other new signings. Here's a couple thoughts:
1) We need a midfielder urgently. If Diego fails to adapt or gets injured we're doomed. It's not easy to replace the best european player of last season and Carlos Alberto already proved he doesn't fit in that position.
2) Rossato leaving? Areias staying? A big no-no here.
Not only we got rid of the most talented player, but the brazilian can also play well on different positions.
3) Janka and Pena are forwards we need to get rid of asap. Just make some money off them while we can.
4) Hugo Almeida and Hélder Postiga need PLAYING TIME to develop. It's fundamental for players this age to have minutes on their legs. We don't want another Hugo Vianas, Hugo Leais or... well... Hélder Postigas...
But it's going to be hard since:
5) Fabiano was bought for what seems to be a record sum of money for a portuguese club. I know Porto only payed for 25% of his pass, but that isn't necessarily good, is it? I mean, it's almost automatic that once he begins to shine on the same level as Deco and Carvalho, those who own the other 75% of his pass will want to see their investment pay off.
Having said that, it was a good buy. Fernandez will make room for him, I'm sure, but...
6) Where does Benny fit in the squad? He doesn't. I'm pretty sure our coach wants to get rid of him. It'd be a surprise to see him finish the current season wearing a Porto jersey.

Luis Fabiano is a great player, from what i saw in the brazilian sport programs, you guys got 2 of 3 top player prospects in Brasil. Diego, Luis Fabiano and the other one is Robinho. He was top scorer last season in the Brasileirão. He´s playing style is similiar to Romário´s but without his genious(for now). I remember that he was quite the temperamental guy and that had some disciplinary problems. He headbutted a player and called burra to a female referee lol. Anyways he looks like the kinda of player that could make a good duo either with Derlei or Postiga.
About the midfielder, from my point of view Diego will adapt easily to our football, i mean a player of his quality can play anywhere. But i understand your point because we all saw how the Porto midfield played against Valência when he was injured. There was no player "para pautar o jogo" and the passing was too confusing and inaccurate.
Im also affraid that Alenitchev won´t have a decent substitute. He was so influencial in the crucial moments and from what i´ve seen Hugo Leal is no where near him.
About Rossato, i think it was a wrong move by PdC. I was so curious to see him play in a bigger club and too see how he would react and deal with the pressure of european football. I saw him in the champions series and he wasn´t disappointing. I bet that we will hear his name in the future and that he will move to a bigger club in La Liga next year (No offense to Real Sociedad).
About Jankauskas and Pena they were both loaned. Jankauskas to Nice and Pena to Marítimo. Since they are both in the last year of contract, i doubt that Porto will make any profit from them but hey, less 2 player in the pay roll.
Im confident that Fernandez will give alot of playing time to Postiga. I mean Postiga wouldn´t have returned to Porto, if he didn´t have guarantees that he would play. Besides Fernandez isn´t really a fan of McCarthy and will prolly play a Luis Fabiano/Postiga duo until Derlei recovers from injury.
For Hugo Almeida things don´t really look so bright and i think that he will be prolly loaned in December to Boavista (depending on how they perform in the Superliga).

He was politically correct when Fernandez came but i don´t think that will stay much longer in Fc Porto. Prolly sold in December to a premiership club. Best time to sell him because now it was too late to sell him because most of the team´s roster are closed but in December/January, lot´s of team´s will prolly be looking for strikers if they are failing to achieve their goals.

But I was looking at our squad and uh... aren't there too many brazilians already? Nothing against them, of course, especially if they're quality, but we were building a squad of young, talented portuguese kids and it absolutely paid off. Aren't we going a couple steps backwards?

You're rich now, you can afford to be a buying club rather than a club who used to buys relatively unknown players and improve them largely like what happened to Deco, Carvalho, Maniche, etc
And I don't think there's enough quality in Portugal to sell the players you sold and replace all of them with young players. And you did get Meireles who is an excellent prospect, and you were about to get David but he rejected you guys. You got Bruno Gama who will be a massive talent as well. And of course Quaresma and Postiga.
On the other hand brazilians are easy to get, relatively cheap for their quality and don't require high wages and they usually adapt quite well to our football.
