Fergie wants Xabi Alonso

Fergie wants what he can't have. He's a wonderful player though, and I think it'd take more than 20m to pry him away. Especially with Real having direct CL qualification.

This news doesnt surprise me.

I was just telling my friends in fact a couple of days ago that Xabi would be the perfect replacement for Roy Keane, especially with the talk of Keano's injury problems and how he will have to take things slightly easier.

I think though Xabi would like to experience the CL with Real Sociedad first next season, and if Sociedad can also keep performing in the league next season like they are doing now, why would he want to leave anyway?

Then again £20 million might just be too tempting for Sociedad...

Help?

20 million? With the current market, NO WAY. 15 mil, maybe but no way United will offer 20 million for 1 player. Only Ronaldinho may get that price.

He would only be needed in Man UTD if Keane retires or if Beckam is sold, and if he is brought to Old Trafford while those two are still there, then Alonso will just sit on bench and only sometimes get to play. Still, if I was him I would stay in Sociedad.

Xabi Alonso is the key player in the midfield of Real Sociedad.

He is 21 years old (i believe) and was a usual player in Spain under 21, but last month played in the Spanish National Team vs Ecuador doing a very nice match. Actually spain big teams are keeping his eyes over Xabi Alonso.

The question is : Knowing Xabi Alonso is very young ¿Can he confirm that is a very nice player or he is just having a nice season aswell his team Real Sociedad? The time will speak :)

I believe he will go on to achieve World Cup success with spain, alongside Torres,Reyes and many others.

he is been playing at a very good level for a few years. and since Keane is close to retiring even if alonso spends a few bench games this year he is till very young, Beckham there or not, they dont play in the same position

I dont think we need Xabi. Maybe when Keane retires then buy another midfielder. Striker or another attacking player is what we need (Kluivert, Ronaldinho, Kewell or Duff). Maybe another defender for backup.

United should be looking for a forward (either a withdrawn forward or an out-and-out striker), a reserve midfielder (one that doesn't cost us a fortune), a versatile defender or centre back, and a goalkeeper (if Barthez is to be sold).

Xabi Alonso has made some impressive performances this season but £15 million is far too much.

why would u wait until he retires... you should have a backup already in place..

The fact is that Man Utd already has a replacement, in the shape of England international Nicky Butt. Phil Neville and Quintine Fortune can both play in that position when required as well.

Well, he might be. In fact, he should be miles better than Fortune and Phil Neville.

But the fact is that when Keane is around United will want their skipper on the field, and Alonso will be warming the bench. For £20million, this makes Juan Veron's £28.1million slightly less of a rip off.
