That sounds awesome Wolf. I'm the same as you, a hardcore PES/WE fan. From what you posted it looks like Fifa will once again be fun to play. Like I posted somewhere else, I don't care if Fifa is better than WE, I just want Fifa to be fun again.

PS Could someone answer some gameplay questions for me?
1. Describe the new free kick system.
2. Do Fullbacks actually make runs now?
3. Do you actually feel good when you score like in WE?
4. Anything else you want to tell me about gameplay.

I havent really gotten a free kick yet so cant tell you

Gary Neville was up at midfield at the end of the half, got a poor shot off from there

yes, a lot more emotion. When the home team scores, the crowd goes NUTS. there is barely any sound when the opposing team scores.

If you get scored on, you're supporters start chanting for you. I went down 1-0 to Milan, and at the kickoff the supporters were going "UNITED,UNITED, UNITED!" and chanting and yelling. Good stuff.

I've just been alternating between WE9 and FIFA 06 for a few games and I know some people aren't interested in comparisons but to really explain the new FIFA I think it's necessary especially to the hardcore PES/WE crowd like myself.

Firstly, the stupid fouls given away in PES/WE aren't there in FIFA which is a huge blessing. Play doesn't stop every two minutes for some non-challenge.

The gameplay in FIFA is a little too fast to be totally realistic and I think it could do slowing down by maybe 15-20% to stop some of the pinball effect.

Crowd sounds are top notch in FIFA. In WE9 they improved but FIFA definitely has a great crowd atmosphere.

Graphics - too early to tell until we get a hi-res patch but for faces/uniforms, PES/WE comes out better. FIFA don't look like they've changed the face model and the latest Konami faces blow them out of the water.

Overall, to me, this is like an earlier version of PES/WE which is no bad thing. Obviously the licenses make a HUGE difference and having all your players and leagues there is a big, big plus in favor of FIFA. The biggest drawback I see is it still feels too fast but I'm impressed with this version and EA have at least won me back to buy their game again even if I'm still gonna remain a Konami fanboy at least until next year!

Does anyone know what the dots next to the team names are? they start off as two for each team, then go to 3 for one team.

Well game speed can be adjusted in the game usually between slow and fast and if you're like me and still find it too fastyou can actually modify it in the ini file so it's no big deal.

I know my question is silly, but has any seen a fullback run ahead of the midfield or does he stay behind the midfielders?

Help?

Wow, i gotta tell you that the demo is finally awesome in my opinion! I will definietly spend the 20 bucks on it. I only paid for Fifa 2002 out of my own pocket and even that costed me 3 bucks. But at least from the demo, i feels like a whole new game, not same old Fifa anymore. It's so much more realistic. The fact that you can control the game easier is good, because in real-life it never happens that one team attacks, makes a shot, the goalie saves it passes it to the defender and the other team starts a counter-attack and then back and forth 100 times in one game. The attacks are slow and have to be build up, with lots of passing and triangles and everything and it's a lot harder to steal the ball from players in real-life. That's what's good about this demo, that it's easier to control and build-up the game and it's a lot harder to steal the ball. Also the Z button that does a dummy, is just a great addition, i was really getting anyoed when in previous versions my player would do a dummy and always lose a ball for no reason, now i can control that and use it to my advantage, very nice. The C button for ball control, of coarse is great as well, but i believe WE 11 had the same thing, still very nice and great addition as well.

Then the gameplay and intelligence of the players is awesome, how you can in midfield hold the ball and the defender will overlap and sprint forward to try and create an attack, in previous fifa's defenders would just stay at their place and do nothing, plus i never used that special off the ball control thing where you tell your players without a ball where to run, by the time i told them, i would lose the ball already  .

The fact that the field is either made smaller or the players are made bigger, also makes it more realistic, because in fifa2005 it felt like i was playing at that Czech Republic stadium that could fit in 200k fans and the field seemed endless.

Also the shooting was improved very well, now you can actually score outside of the box, without having to measure your shot for 10 seconds. And the crosses are way harder to score now is a bonus too.

The only problem in my game, are the faces, when it's a cutscene, they all look burned out/devil like/red vs yellow, looks like they came straight from hell. But who cares about that, i skip the cutscenes anyways, the main thing is gameplay and so far i think that fifa went miles and miles further in improving it.

I like the demo very much, gonna go play some more now.

I just played and Heinze for Man Utd kept attacking and running way past the midfield and past Giggs... I hope I answered your question.

The game's a pretty blatant rip-off of recent pes games, it plays fairly smoothly, there's a lot of stuff to still be worked on - goalies, crosses, heading, etc, but admitedly this is finally a fifa that's worth playing at least a bit.

The "blatent rip-off" thing is a GOOD thing though. EA finally woke up to the fact that how ever much they kept tweaking their gaming engine it was still going to be light years behind Konami's. It's still behind but has caught up a lot of the gap. If EA can make this game even better in the gameplay dept. next year then I'll jump ship because I'm sick and tired of editing PES/WE for hours just to get it looking authentic. I just want to freaking play and at least EA offer that.

Dynamic weather would be a big plus to add but I've heard that's gonna happen in the X-Box 360 and PS3 versions anyway.

I posted this in another thread but it seems this is the "official" demo thread. My computer can't run it, which was to be expected, I play it on GCN. However, I was hoping to check out some player ratings and the formations and such. Am I wrong or can you not edit your team before the actual game? If you can, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

Well let me describe you how it went.

I downloaded the demo and first off I had to wait about 10 minutes for the game to start with all these stupid pegi 3+ screens etc. 'Not a good sign' I thought, so when it finally had happened to start up I started a game but everything felt so unreal(or much less real than PES 4) that I quited after playing the 45 minutes in the game in which I couldn't find any improvements to FIFA 2005 which wasn't all to good either, actually I think it has become worse...

I once again came to the conclusion that I'm not going to buy FIFA. I'll just go back and play FIFA 99 again, the real fifa, everything that came after that can't call itself FIFA.

That's been one of my complaints in past years. Robotic AI. I'm glad that they make smart runs finally. Now I can dibble past a defender with Ronaldo and then lay it off to Heinze for the cross. Sweet!

Damn right it's a good thing. I've been wishing for this a long time. PES4 is fantastic to play, but the editing is mind-numbing even with your patches. Even though 06 probably won't play better than WE9, it's only going to get better from here.

Kudos to EA for hiring Jean-Claude Van Damme as the producer!!! :fool:

although I know its just the demo I think EA should definately keep this producer because from what I've played so far he's done a great job with the gameplay this year...

Definately the best Fifa game ive played but if you had the ECL game then you wont see it as a massive improvement but when comparing it to fifa 05 it is and the game is now much more fun to play. A few things come to mind but I aint complaining...well done EA!

Tomba

The game is INCREDIBLY improved.

The animations and movement of the players from running to tricks to tackles to even shooting and heading are done over completely.

Player models are identical almost to 05 though.

Only thing is I need to spend more time on the shooting toward goal. I have fears that it is not that much better thaN 05 , THAT MAY CHANGE WITH MORE TIME THOUGH.

WE'LL SEE.
