I enjoy playing FIFA but in the past it has been a bit short-lived. There were just too many cheap goals that always went in. Whilst its a good multiplayer experience, playing on your own is boring because the computer is too poor.

That said, I can now beat any team with any team on ISS '98, which has been pretty much constantly played since I got it for the bargain price of £15 in '99. But the difference is it is not so dull because you have to employ some skill to beat the decent teams. Multiplayer here is dull because I can't find anyone good enough to play against - I end up thumping them quite seriously.

I shall see what PES3 is like, hopefully it will be a bit better, because My ISS '98 games usually resort to long ball tactics over the top.

I can only hope PES3 provides the same lasting challenge overall.

BTW, you know how in The N64 ISSes always made you have a level 3 goalkeeper when you were playing against a level 5 team...

Does PES make you do this or does it put you on a level footing?

You're coming from ISS 98 to PES3? Don't worry you'll be busy picking the ball out of the net for quite a while :)

Great thing is, you'll watch the highlights a the end of those games and think, whoa I just got spanked from every single angle. Every goal they score you can see where you could have done a bit more, or where you just made the wrong decision.

No, difficulty isn't just determined by adjusting the keepers abilities.

WE7 has been out for months, no gameplay patches yet......and there won't be - gameplay patches & kit/roster patches are not the same thing. Gameplay is spot on, don't know that anything needs to be changed in Konami's version

Hahaha.. Yup, he's right.
After whooping all my friends in WE6:FE and consistenly vs the CPU, I jumped immediately to 5 stars with my first game in WE7 vs the CPU. Got my ass handed to me on a silver plate and then some.

Every aspect the CPU outplayed me, and even kept possession away from me (which is one of my strongest traits)

Great game. Can't say the same about FIFA tho, as we all know, all EA games cheat in the higher level than actually the CPU playing better

There won't be a PES gameplay patch for the simple reason being that it doesn't need one... unlike some game beginning with F.

It doesn`t . . .

The cheating began on three stars difficulty or above on any tourney soon after the knock-out round. I always wanna kill the reff and the freakin` super goalie . . . even the goal posts.

Excuse the chopped out middle paragraph.

Yes, I am coming from ISS '98 to PES3, but I reckon I will stand a good chance. Even if my tactics will be a bit one dimensional to begin with(I'm shameful to say... Liverpool tactics - hoof over the top)

What I meant about the keeper difficulties was that on ISS '98(and 2000 I think but I haven't played that too much) you would absolutely hammer the opposition goal with shots, 20 or 30 against a level 5 team(that'll charge you down relentlessly, push you out of the way and generally be a right bugger to deal with) your keeper would be left at level 3, which is like the standard difficulty setting. Now thats fine, except the computer on level 5 knows exactly where to shoot and more often than not will place it right in the corner where your keeper is slow to react. If both keepers are on level 5 it is a fairer test. You can change the keeper settings on Open Game but everywhere else you can't.

So what I meant was, do you get stuck with a 3 star keeper when playing on the 5 star mode in PES3?

Yup mate, got you the first time :)
No, your keeper will stay the same. Just the opposition team get a stat boost. Not a negligible one either...

Stat boost, maybe, but not alot.
It's really how the CPU plays.
They are less careless (almost too perfect) when making any type of passes.

Yeah, don't have PES3 so cant comment on it but I'm pretty sure WE7 5* has some sort of stat boost, haven't had alot of time to play it though so am still winning as much as I lose in 4* :)

Best football AI there is though.

Normally you can do the 360 degrees move while dribbling, so I think you made that move now when you was jumping :)
Just circle the right analog stick around for the 360 degrees move.
So you probably tried to make a header and at the same time you circled the right analog stick!

About the lack of licencing at PES 3: Don't bother! When I bought PES 3 for my PS2, almost immediately somebody made a new option file with all new names, transfers and right kits, so the PES community is also very active on this matter! :)

After playing FIFA 2004, I am actually SHOCKED how well it plays compared to 2003.!!

I never expected it to play as good and although not as good as PES3, it's certainly an enjoyable, solid football game! :rockman:

I wasn't expecting that this year at all. :)
