I say start the arguments, offer objective evaluations, valid criticisms and sound arguments, because this way PES will undoubtedly come out on top and EA will be forced to finally make a football game, not a FIFA game.

Sorry, but I rarely, if ever, see any logical argument from PES fans against FIFA. I honestly don't want to get into anymore on this forum since it is the place for fans of the game to talk about the game.

I really want to say this. After coming to these boards and seeing all the the lame PES crowd trying to pump their favorite game, I have really lost all interest in even playing the damn thing. I was going to download the demo, but I am so disgusted by the immaturity of the games fans, I won't.

Thanks for saving my time!

FIFA fans are as stubborn as EA... they don't want to hear how crap their games are, as much as EA don't want to (or not able to) make a decent football game.

A perfect match I tell ya :D

Open your mind dude, you're missing out the greatest football game (PES 3 that is), and for what? For multi millions (billions?) corp. like EA? The same corp. that screw you over and over every year? Unless you (or your dad) are working for EA ... now that would be a different story. I'd say try the demo first and decide.

I had seen lots of FIFA fans converted to PES when they actually try the game.

Just my 2 cents.

Seriously, Elder, I can honestly say I've never seen a more thoughtful reason not to try something out

The problem I have with this argument is that most of the arguments against FIFA the past couple of days has come from American fans who don't even own the game yet. They compare demo's, not full games. Maybe you should read EA financial statements. The Number 2 priority for the entire company behind making a Harry Potter game or something, was to improve this years FIFA. Just because it doesn't fit to what you think is a good game, that doesn't make it a bad game.

but until the game is actually out and people are able to buy it, I say we all be quiet.

It's called overhype. Just as I don't want FIFA fans ramming their game down my throat, I would like the same treatment from the Konami crowd. I'll hold my breath.

I am one of them, I now wish I converted a year earlier now. :o

this is exactly the type of stubborn attitude that, honestly, I don't understand nor can I comprehend. Becaouse fans love this game, you will not try it to spite them?

that is one of the dumbest most ignorant things I've ever read..I'd prefer a "PES sux" comment over that mate...seriously :)

Believe me Elder, it is well worth trying PES. I have played every Fifa since 98, and because I have always preferred PC gaming, that has been my only choice. I played PES on PS2 a year ago, and the gameplay just amazed me. No, the graphics aren't as stunning as Fifa, and the rosters aren't there.

But really, I couldn't care less anymore. The rosters can be rectified, and grahics only maintain my interest level for so long... it is gameplay that keeps me coming back to a game.

And after downloading and playing my first PES 3 game earlier, I saw something that just confirmed my intention of bypassing Fifa this year and getting PES 3 (since it is the first time it is available on PC).

I am in possession of the ball in my own half. I see my striker is in some space up ahead, and I know his pace outstrips his marker. So I send a long ball up the field (not my usual style of play, but thought I would give it a go). Anyway, as I predicted, my striker gets past the defenders easily, but still has some way to go to reach the ball, so I have him sprinting. And then I notice the opposition goalie is runnig out of his box to try and reach the ball before my striker (Barthez style). And then something happened that made my jaw drop...

My striker and the goalie are almost at the ball, and then the goalie leaps and heads... I repeat HEADS... the ball to one of his defenders. He literally dives at the ball, and makes contact. And saves the day.

I was stunned, as I was certain that I was going to get the ball and make a great shot past the goalie from 30 yards out. But I was thwarted.

Basically, the parameters of the gameplay are just sooo much broader. That incident would absolutely NEVER happen in fifa, and while it will be a long time before I see it again in PES, I am sure there will plenty of other jaw dropping moments. Sneaky backheeled goals? Check. Unintentional goals off the knee? Check. They are all there. And it is the chance of stuff like that happening that will keep me coming back. WIth Fifa, I can almost predict how every game will go. Find the right script, and follow it. ANd the gameplay patches might improve ball speed etc in Fifa, but there is always a script locked away within them that just needs to be found.

PES is also scripted, but in a more complex, less bounded manner.

situations like that happen thousands of times, its almost unbeleivable the kind of goals, chances, scrambles, saves that happen with NO REPETITION whatsoever...an unscripted engine where anything (almost) that can happen in football can happen in PES3, I mean anything, nothing looks fake, even on the replays, it just looks perfect....this game is stunning.

With an explanation like that, I am more inclined to try the game. Actually, now I want to see a goalie header! I just bought FIFA today and have played 3 games so far with a 2nd Division Bundesliga team. So far it is much much better that last years effort, and nothing like the demo. I hated the FIFA04 demo and thought it was terribly boring. I have lost 2 and won 1, and can't get these goals from outside the box everyone complains about. I started on professional level.

Anyway, when PES comes out for PC, (is it out?) I may give it a whirl. The last footy game I played on PC was FIFA World Cup 98, and never got into it for the PC. So maybe I will have my one game for sitting my ass on the couch, and the other when I am on the PC.

Thanks for the good explanation instead of the usual drivel that comes out on these boards.

Yeah, I know things can get out of hand... and it was exactly the same last year when Fifa 03 came out.

PES is scheduled for release on the PC on the 21st, I think. But I would wait until people have posted their reactions - this is after all the first time it has been released on PC so I expect there may well be a few difficulties.

Like I said, I have always bought Fifa, as I prefer PC gaming to console (never mind the fact there are people in my household who actually watch the garbage that passes for television). But I have played PES on PS2, and I really couldn't get over the sher variety in gameplay. I guess with Fifa you get used to and know what will happen in a given situation, but with PES you have to expect the unexpected (like the goalie header incident).

I looked at the gameplay file in some depth from the fifa demo, and really it has not changed substantially from fifa 03 as far as the allowed parameters of the gameplay go. I just don't think Fifa 04 improved enough from 03. Sure it is better than 03, but not that much better that I have been convinced to part with my money at full price. I will however look at getting it when the price comes down. And of course when 05 comes out I will be back gain checking out the feedback.

The thing with PES also is that it much more of a challenge to get to grips with, and that is what I like - the challenge. It is not as instinctive as Fifa, so I regard fifa as a better option for a quick start get-on-and-play, but PES has another dimension in terms of the time it takes to truly master it. Fifa is on the right track, but the competition form Konami can only help things get better, faster. Everyone knows Fifa absolutely kills when it comes to graphics, they really need to get to grips with gameplay now.
