I think that the people that just won't shut up about how much they think FIFA 2004 sucks on this forum need to get together and make their own game so we can criticize it.

LOL, that's what I mean, learn how to code so we can criticize your product. Then you'll see that you don't care what we think either. I'm just trying to make you realize that:

a) EA doesn't care about you and they really don't care what you think
b) people will still buy the game, even if you and your cronies don't like it
c) some people still enjoy the game

Dumb keepers? Does it get better when you play on World Class? In FIFA 2003, unless you played on World Class, the AI/keeper was weak (really weak). I just started playing FIFA 2004… but I have noticed how easy it is to score from far away (I am still getting accustomed to the game). You guys using higher levels, are keepers still giving up goals that bad?

Point well taken, but...
as for:
a) EA doesn't care about you and they really don't care what you think
EA has a very big marketing department who does care about what consumers think. However, Those of us who find “this and that” wrong with FIFA 2004 are in the minority. Not only that, but we (at least in the US don’t have many other soccer games to choose from. W11 doesn’t have FIFA licenses, at least non-that I have noticed for their PS2 version; if I am wrong just tell me…). Authenticity, as far as clubs and their logos is important to some of us. Take my brother-in-law for example; he and all his buddies think FIFA 2004 is just fine. They don’t cry like I do about this and the other… they are not as detail oriented as some of us. So, EA caters to the masses not the few…
And, as for:
b) people will still buy the game, even if you and your cronies don't like it
That is absolutely right (and I hate saying that, especially when I am one of those cronies… the truth hurts though). :(

W11 doesn't have licenses, and as far as I know, neither does PES2, but I could be wrong about that, but I know for a fact that W11 doesn't have licenses. Authenticity is important to me, that's part of the reason I enjoy FIFA games.

You are right about EA's public relations department, they do care, but not when people like the flamers on this forum destructively criticize them in the manner that they do. Do you blame EA for turning a deaf ear to the childish criticizms? I don't, because I'd do the same thing.

About the goalie thing, I am currently playing on Professional, and the keeper sometimes just stands there if you cross it at the right angle, allowing your playing in the box to head it in very easily. It does happen on World Class too, I have played a few games on World Class, and I did score like that once.

Criticizing any professional entity using the wrong verbiage will in fact tune them out. However, making comments that seem not like attacks but constructive criticism goes a lot further. I am surprised the site manger does not crack down more on “childish” comments.

Indeed.

Brett, there is a better way to quote people, look at the lower right hand corner of every post, there is a
button, click on that and you can quote people more effectively.

Did I get it right?
I was not really into forums (Like you, I am also turned-off by people who just talk trash), so I am getting used to maneuvering around. I like to chat with people from whom I can actually learn something from, so I put you on my buddy list.
It was good chatting with you.
Take care
P.S.: Thanks for the tips.

Hey Jimmyboy30

Play the game before you criticize. I'm a huge we11 fan but I have to say that there is no way FIFA04 is crap. I'm not convinced its the best game ever but after playing about 50 games on PS2 semipro 4 minute halves the game has some nice qualities.
1. The number of clubs and quality of kits is awsome. They even have the logos on the sock if thats what the real club has.

2. Game play is most important and this is where we11 has always been great. I can't yet say the gameplay on fifa04 is great but it is huge improvement over 01 02 and 03. I can never predict whether I'm going to beat the AI. And playing with a lower rated club really makes a difference.

3. The AI does attack from the sides!!! But the goal is in the middle so its natural that most attacks come from the center.

4. The goalkeepers reactions are the most realistic ever for fifa. Sometimes he will catch ttthe ball especially when its a soft shot. But when its a hard shot he will just perry it. No longer does the keeper dive at every ball the same way.

I'll write a full review after I play the game some more so as to get a better idea of how good the gameplay is but I already know this game is not crap.

I haven't played the full version yet, but the demo just showed me nothing could possibly like about the gameplay, i agree the game is a letdown, and will probably keep playing fifa03 and pes2 till i get the chance to play Pes3 full on my pc.

This year's fifa game has taken a lot of stick from gamers who like authentic football simulation.

Overall, this game is good though not perfect. Anyway which game is. This game takes patience to play. If you play it slowly you would be able to score in the penalty box. About the long range shot, I have yet to score any other than from the top of the penalty box.

Don't button smashed and expect to play this game. I am expecting strong reactions from some camp but that is my opinion.

Ive noticed that while people can mention tons of things wrong with Fifa 2004 in a constructive way, Fifa-lovers only seem to "critizise" like this:

1. Learn to code and make your own game (hah)
2. PES-players run like horses (oh is that the only wrong?)
3. Simply NOT shoot from outside the box (oook, so I, the customer, should adjust my gameplay to achieve happyness about the game? Nah.)
4. Why you sitting here posting if PES is so good - shouldnt you be playing?
5. Learn to play the game. You must SUCK at it.

Oh and then some licensing issues for those you think real names is the main priority for getting the game.

Look at these critizing points and look at the list of valid (yes, the points thats actually true and well-documented) Fifa 2004 critizing points. I have a smile on my face right now, as the above list in no way can be compared to the Fifa 2004 list of complaints.

So I wonder why some people really are so stubborn about Fifa 2004 - they must either be in denial or changed to the EA-religion.

To those who disagree with this post - please come up with some good valid constructive critizism to the PES games other than the above 5 points.

:) :) I don´t care;) ;) ;)

You people keep complaining about this game. Sure it has some bugs. But still this is the only soccer game I enjoy. (H)

And I will enjoy it for a long time.

This tired old argument is pointless.

Two choices: if you like the game, enjoy it. If you hate it, **** off and pursue something else.

I don't understand how a demo could be made available and then some people by the game, cry foul and whine about the gameplay as if it's a surprise. You should have been a more intuitive consumer. I don't test drive a car where the wheels fall off and then go ahead and buy it. And there's always the option to take it back.

Come on, let's keep this forum productive. There can be a first for everything!

I think that when people intially play Fifa 2004 they think it is great, I was the same, thought at last we have a good game, but after playing it for 3 weeks, I am so frustrated at the game, there is no fluidity to it, no element of surprise, and you can score just about everytime from 30 yards. Compare this to PES3 which again is not perfect, but I never never get frustrated at this game, if you want to make a pass to the wing, it goes there and not out for a throw in, the through passes actually work, the skill moves are good and you can dribble, you can do great crosses and every goal is different. The only thing I wish PES3 had was Fifa's corners and freekicks, they are the only good points of Fifa and also the license. Ah well there's always next year, and I have TCM 2004 today, so that might be good! Wont hold my breath though.

If you have the PC version, there are 2 great gameplays out for 2004.
One from Luis Miguel , the 2nd from Mex . Try them for a while and practice. In Mex gameplay it's very difficult to score from far out. All the things you're complaining about are possible.
The problem with EA is that there is no continuity from one year to another.
Each edition has nothing to do with the one from the year before.
2001 versus 2002
2002 versus 2003
and now 2003 versus 2004 . Compare these ...
So I think that 's why a lot of guys are complaining.
I personally think that this year the gameplay is on a good way.
I just hope next year will be the following of this one and not a step backwards 2003 way of arcade
PES and Fifa are 2 different approaches so everyone should be satisfied because you can choose now.
I really enjoy the Fifa game this year but I will also get the PES3 PC version because I like footy games.
Just simple as that !
;)
