I am also one of those crazy poeple that think WE/PES are light years ahead. That being said, I do like this FIFA (when I look past the flaws), I think it is the closest representation of real soccer EA has come up with yet.........overall I think they have done an OK job.

I agree with you and I also think this 2004 is the better Fifa I've played.
It has the Portuguese SuperLiga, with all the 18 teams, and portuguese commentary.
It has a 5 year carrer mode ( fair but few).
The direction arrows in replays are great.
The sound is excelent, also like the crowd in stadiums.

But PES wins due to it gameplay. But I'm still continue to play 2004, I know there's out there someone making great patches.

Ok Ok well let me ask what FIFA game ever has had opponent AI take long shots ot make frequent fouls? you never see the AI in 04 take the rediculous long shots that i seem to score with at will!!! think about it just bloody admit it ITS A LET DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just figured it all out... FIFA fans are so much more patient then PES/WE fans. FIFA fans are prepared to wait another year in the blind hope of a better game while PES/WE fans are not patient and enjoy playing a great football game right now...!

This is the main difference between FIFA and PES/WE fans...

This years fifa is a letdown...I'll wait till next year.

Fifa 2004 reminds me of the first ever fifa soccer since in both games you could score from the center of the pitch but never inside the box!

Goodbye for ever fifa...I'm not going to buy that title ever again.

the long range shooting bug & the same-old same-old

I guess the long range shooting bug...the fact that its easier to score from farther out (just outside the box) is meant to make up for the fact that it is so difficult to get it INTO the box in the first place. The keepers aren't as good as in the past, but his defending teammates pack the box so well that its hard to test them one on one.

Other criticisms keep popping up here over and over. Weak menus, away kits not getting dirty, the shadowy darkness of day games in some stadiums all are real issues. I still love FIFA but I'm not playing it as much as 2003.

No game can be perfect.

Graphics- I think these have actually not improved at all, the game to a lot of people is jerky, i have recently downloaded the PE3 game and is smooth as silk, the lighting is unreal and the goals are so unrealistic and dark!!

Sound- FIFA 2003 i could hear all the chants, this year the atmosphere has been lost- i just has, commentary in parts has improved-well done!

Presentation-EA's usual excellence , well the music is crap apart from 3 tunes, the menus are god awful in looking and its just shabby all round

Gameplay- Well well well, one on ones with the keeper??? non existant almost AI from CPU-dreadful play down the middle all the time, no tactics no surprise elements just dreadful and the fact that in any level, half a decent player can shoot and score from 50 yards is just rediculous and watching the keeper back on the replay is an embarrasment to football

I Loved FIFA RTWC and World Cup 98 EA were at there best, presentation was awesome and the gameplay was fun and rewarding and had a nice balance and it has to be said were the market leaders at the time FIFA 1999-2002 were a shambles 2003 improved, now this is just a joke that has and wil be on my hard drive but will never use again

Pro evolution 3 has made this game redundant and if you dont believe me, just talk to most who have played it, they are not asking for urgent patches to the demo- yes the demo is better than the full EA game!! PES has one on ones its has individual skill it has a killer through ball, something that EA has never done right!!! it has cross field passes into space, it has CPU Ai that attacks from all sides and learns your tactics but the one thing is doesnt have that EA waste time and time again is the licence, its a bloody shame as i was expecting a lot more from EA a hell of a lot more!!!!
