The Suarez omission is rightly down to the biting incident in my opinion. It was a repeat of earlier (bizarre) misbehavior and he was a discredit to his sport at the World Cup. Someone like that shouldn't be nominated for an award like this, not this year.

I think my personal top 3 would be Ronaldo, Neuer and Robben. Simeone for the golden bench.

Only the Barcelona fans are complaining that he should be in this list. He only played 1 game for them. This is strange.

Mandieta6's a Barca fan now?

What? He also said he shouldn't be in because he won nothing.

Why do you think he should be in?

The CL Final and the end of last year's La Liga Season demonstrate this all. Ronaldo did fuck all and Madrid choked away the title.

Ronaldo was injured in that last month and throughout the WC. He actually didn't play a couple of those last games, and what I think you're misinterpreting here is that it is precisely because he wasn't able to contribute that Real didn't secure the title. That's like saying Neuer saves don't help Bayern, when he concedes he's just choking and thinking of himself.

He was anonymous the entire CL Final and then celebrated as if his penalty was the decider. Because it's all about Ronaldo, not about Real Madrid. When Bale scored the winner, Ronaldo couldn't give two shits.

This is totally true, imo, but it doesn't change the fact that his goals are important and he is THE most important player in the team.

Suarez not included in top30 is stupid.

Definitely, but do any of you think FIFA thought he didn't deserve it based on merit? This is entirely down to his biting incident.

?

He lead Liverpool to 2nd place in the Premier League. That's got to be taken into consideration.

Fuck me, it's an award for the year 2013 not 12/13 season, they were on top at Christmas so technically he led them a spot down the table

Suarez deserves to be on the list based on footballing merit, I think. He can fuck off though, he doesn't deserve any awards this year. Arguing about him is stupid anyway because he isn't anywhere near the Top 3 and those are the only ones that matter.

I think you got the year and the season messed up there. Surely it's for 2014 and you meant 13/14. Just thought there was just something a little bit off about your post.

Yeah my bad but the point still stands, you can't just nominate him because he's good enough, he actually has to earn it throughout the season

Make America Great Again
Down to 3 now

Ronaldo, Messi, and Neuer.

Neuer has been the best player in the world this year and he won the biggest title, largely because of his performances (not to mention his performances that helped take the Bundesliga in record time and advance a criminally lethargic Bayern to the CL Semis when they should have gone out to Arsenal and United).

If you want the award to only go to glamour positions and players, then limit the award as such, but Neuer has been the best and most important player in 2014.

Incidentally, I'm stunned that some people think Muller should even have been in the conversation. The only other Bayern player with a case to be the world's best is Robben.

Last year Lahm should have won, by the way.

Neuer is about 100x better than his next closest peer, and that goes to show his greatness. Ronaldo and Messi are great, yes, but how can you make a case to be the best when you have peers accomplishing the same things as you. Ronaldo barely even made the WC with Portugal, Messi took Argentina to the Final. Ronaldo won the CL, Messi's team finished above his in La Liga; both have nearly identical goal/assist totals.

It's still funny to think people were saying Ribery should've won it last year.

Neuer was great and would be interesting to see a GK winning such a big award, but as long as these two monsters are playing at this level, I don't see anyone else touching it. Ronaldo will probably get it this year mainly because of the CL impressive 17 goals and the trophy, but it's very close unlike last year when Messi's injuries totally put him in shadow.

It comes down to how you think achievements should be weightes. Personal achievements or being a leader in a winning team?

If the question is an absolute, who is the best player in the world then sure, Ronaldo and Messi. If it's about titles then it should be Neuer or Ronaldo.

I support the Muller cote purely because he was the best attacker im the WC winning side and GKs and defenders rarely get votes.

It's about the best player. That's why Messi won vs Sneijder and Ronaldo vs Ribery. No chance for Neuer.

It's a popularity contest.
