Right, I found this out in FIFA 2001 but it still works fine in FIFA 2002. I use this method everytime, I either score or hit the bar if I've put a bit too much power on.
All you do is look at the side the goalkeeper is on. For example, if he is on the left then leave the arrow exactly where it is, but put full curl to the left. It may sound wrong, but it really works. Remember to try and get the power-bar nearly full, maybe 1 red bar or full green bars. If the goalkeeper is on the right, don't move the arrow at all, but put full curl to the right, then shoot nearly full power.
It's that easy.
1. Leave the arrow exactly where it is.
2. Put full curl to which side the keeper is on.
3. Shoot close to full power.
As long as you don't go too full on the power, you will probably score!!

I have a different problem to all those others have put on here about scoring free kicks! No matter what formation/tactics I play, one of my strikers stands in the centre of the box and stops my free kicks every time! I've even got him sent off one time so that I could try to score and someone else stood there in place of him!
What do I have to do? Get 10 men sent off and have the keeper take the kicks?!?!

well I dont have that problem so I can't help you. There is a guy standing in the box, but I always go around him, so I don't know what your problem is.

No I don't use a gameplay patch, not sure about the other guy.
You will need practice to be perfect though, you can't just read something and expect to do it straight away. I went to many different sites looking for ways how to take free kicks and they all said different things and every time I tried them they never worked. So I just practiced for ages and I eventually got it right.
Pity you hardly ever get them in the game though, it's really crap how you never do. In FIFA 2001 you got about 2 or 3 a match, in this one I only get one every 20 or so matches, or more. I only remember having 2 free kicks actually playing the game against the computer.

Well, just keep practicing and you will eventually turn out like me and the other guy and will be able to get most in.
Try putting some power in it as well, if your not already!
