Group E: Italy vs. USA

Um,

This game missed a lot of well......game!

First off, Italy wasn't playing (No offense, I was cheering for them) US was taking advantage of the space they left open widely. Even at an odd number of 10-9, the game looked weak. Like some people said b4 me, this game was one Italy should have taken. US placed a good defense but lacked skill. It is true Ghana will have some problems, but I think, and this is according to the stuff below, Ghana may have the upper hand.

CZE-US 3-1
Ghana-ITA 0-2
US-Italy 1-1
CZE-Ghana 0-2

Based on some crazy calculations of probabilities, I'd say Ghana is gonna take out Mr. Arena.

Maybe if their Morale hadn't dropped with the own gaol, Italy might have done it.

Italy Post Game Quote from WC '06 website:

Gianluigi BUFFON (ITA)
"For us, the knockout stages of the tournament start with the next game against the Czech Republic. You can blame my old friend Pavel Nedved and the rest of his team for losing to Ghana".

ROFL?

How about you place a little blame on your teammate Zaccardo for trying a retarded clearance in your own box.

ive seen replay after replay and all I can say is that
1. The DiRossi foul was malicious, but if McBride hadnt been bleeding, I believe he wouldve probably gotten away with a yellow
2. The foul on Pirlo is debatable as a red, but that was an absolutely braindead challenge by Mastroeni. Clearly the mood of retribution was on his mind, as why else would a player on a side who just went a man up in a must-win game go full steam, studs up like that? The red was fair in my opinion if not for the physical contact then for the rashness and sheer stupidity of that tackle
3. The Pope card, in my opinion, was something he shouldve been given a longer leash for , seeing as he already had a yellow. It really wasnt that bad
4. The offsides goal was the right call end of discussion

So while he clearly didnt have a good game, I really dont think its as bad as people are making it out to be

What is shameful, however, is the response to it. Kasey Keller comes out with "No way in hell thats a red card on Mastroeni" :| What? I know he played for Blackburn and all, but cmon. And his accosting of their play acting, while accurate, is just stupid. Maybe if youre retarded teammates hadve used the man advantage and not gone hunting Italian scalps for revenge, you wouldnt have to witness so much playacting.

The absolute worst was Alexi Lalas' brilliant insinuation that the refs was corrupt :| :| Comments like that are what make people line up and take shots at America when they lose these games. Then again, I doubt too many people are privy to his inside information, as the man holds the secret as to why Keller is the worlds best goalkeeper locked inside that ginger gourd of his

37 fouls and 3 red crads, Italy underperforming, USA...well performing, an ok goal and a lousy own goal... yeah definately best game thus far. Hey Pede the ref was great, he made all the right calls and allowed the play to flow without taking to much out of the game but more importatnly kept his cool and was always in control, so what are you talking about?

however Italy deserved better than to tie on an own goal that is REAL.... :sb9:

The U.S didn't deserve this tie, simply because.....................THEY DIDN'T SCORE.

Totally wrong. The ref gave the card right after he saw the infliction, there was like 2 sec reaction time for the ref. Blood or no blood it was premeditated and deserved of a red card. The reason why people had problems with the ref was his inconsistency and reactionary cards without any warnings. He called everything in the first half and nothing in the final 20 minutes.

Ok, first time on SG today so I have to express my opinion on this match.

GREAT performance from the US, I gotta hand it to the players and the coaching staff for entering this game with the attitude that they should of started with against the Czechs. They were focused and ready and you could see that from the first minute (Y).

We got scored on first but unlike the Czech Republic game we continued to attack as if nothing had happened. Thank God for Dempsey and his great runs on the right win :clapwap:, great decision by Arena to put him in the starting line-up. Seeing him run at the Italian defense as if they were some s*itt CONCACAF team was priceless (H)(Y).

We were lucky to get that goal but sometimes you need luck. However, we still haven't proven that we can score with these players up front (:/). I want to see a 4-4-2, this one striker strategy is not working at all. I mean we have on goal and it's an own goal for f*cks sake :|, Arena has to realize that. We need a win vs Ghana and McBride alone up front won't be enough in my opinion.

De Rossi is a c*nt (N)

The Mastroeni red card could be disputed both ways but seeing how Mastroeni had been so agressive up to that point I can see why the ref decided to give him the straight red. A more calm and composed ref would have given him a yellow though because the foul was not "intentional" or "reckless" which is what defines a red card, he was simply late for a tackle, that's a yellow card not a red.

The Pope red was complete bull s*it. That foul he commited to get the second yellow wouldn't even be a yellow in a rec game at the local park between 5 year olds. Clearly the ref had lost it at that point.

From that point the US were warriors . Did an amazing job to keep the Italians who lets face it even though they were whinning all over the pitch still looked dangerous and had chances to score. Keller and Onyewu are co-men of the match in my opinion. Both were amazing down the strech. Onyewu had a great game by the way (Y).

Good sub by Arena to bring in Beasley even though I thought he was crazy when he did it. BTW no bringing Johnson on for McBride was madness (N)

I also just wanna add:

FORZA ITALIA

Im in love with Gilardino's celebration :D Im gonna do it when I play. :clapwap:

Quite the diver as well. How many times did they bust out the stretcher for little Pirlo only to have him hop right off it the second he hit the side line. Thats joga bonito.

FIFA has got to crack down on that. It kills the flow of the game. I want to see someone dive, go out on the stretcher, come back a second later . . . to a straight red.

Missing Italy's rampant diving = another nail in the coffin of this ref.

Boo-frickety-hoo? I might as well argue that a team with dirty cun*s like De Rossi doesn't deserve points at all.

As if you've never seen an own-goal :| The Italians were disorganised and played a crap game, while the US players fought like warriors for pretty much the entire game...yeah I can totally see how the Italians deserved a win here. :nape:

That suggests that you think that the only thing a team must do to deserve a victory, is to score... and that's a bit stupid......

Watched the highlights. Zaccardo's goal was pathetic. Reminds me of Silvestre. De Rossi was a pish and to think he was one of our transfer targets.

You must be on crack or something.

I don't know what game you were watching but the U.S. team fought like crazy and outplayed the Italians this game.

Lay off the pipe.

Some people cant stop hating the USA no matter what it seems (and no, i dont like them at all, but god damnt, you gotta give credit where credit is duo, and they made Italy look retarded yesterday).

to be fair, US didn't have one shot on target, not one... They fought well and hard, but if you can't get a shot on net then you should be fortunate to come away with the draw.
