Group F: Brazil vs Australia [P+R]

i have to agree with another thing said in this thread, smaller teams should look after the likes of Ivory Coast and Ghana, thats how football is played, it does not matter who the opponent is.

We played marginally better than vs. Croatia; however:

1. Parreira will keep starting our worst combo of forwards since Roanldo improved a little bit, and so he will keep him (...). Robinho played 25 min, got four or five shots (one served as setup for Fred's goal) and overall made our attacks fairly more dangerous.

2. Our midfielders still are hardly trying take rebounds and such - most of the times Aussies managed to get an attack they were able to shoot or cross.

3. Ronaldinho was invisible today :boohoo:

Australia did not play cowardly at all, they tried to use all their chances - and how Kewell missed the shot after Dida lost theat ball is beyond me.

If we keep playing like this we are bound to fail. The team is not really working as an unit, and subpar performances from the Ronaldos are not helping at all. Parreira should start neither vs Japan, and give 90 min to Robinho and Juninho. Frogs will rain on Dortmund if he does that however.

guys i am an aussie born person. so yes naturally i am upset by the loss. however i also look at sport as a neutral. to me the brazilians were winning gold medals for their dives. markus merk was giving fouls for the most smallest bump.

I think this is due to something that I have noticed and that a few brazilian commentators have been saying here for a while: There are several standards of refereeing around the world and some countries like Australia are used to one system while Brazil is used to another, however the standard used in Brazil is very similar to the used in the World Cups.

In the WCs the threshold for what is considered a foul is really lower than Australia is used to. I think the referee made one or two mistakes in giving fouls that really weren't fouls. But besides those he was very good.

It's too bad Fifa can't enforce the same standard all around the WC, but I think nationality prides get in the way.

Yes, I am. But I'd like to watch all the matches, and with Brazil still in, the TV prefers to show the team getting inside the bus or the players running rather than showing the matches.

Delighted for Fred though.

This guy is a weird brazilian... he sometimes seems to root for Brazil, but in the next instant he seems to cheer for anyone else but Brazil... anyway...

I think the Aussies deserved better than this, but in the end, Brazil vindicate the victory... they start creating some very dangerous situations, and had one shot hitting the bar...

But Australia did impress and never gave up the fight... they've created some dangerous situations too, and deserved a goal at least... very good game from them, only lacking the end-product!!! :rockman: (Y)

Kewell is playing worse than ******... :kader:

Yellow Card
Brazil looked pretty awful for a section of the match. They were bound to score against the Aus defence. The good news is that Brazil might catch a break and draw Ghana (instead of a healthy Czechy) in the Rd of 16. The bad news is that
1) it's Ghana!
2) their gap-toothed superstar has been non-existent thus far
3) as a team, they have not impressed

This is what you get when your practice matches are against FC Luzern and New Zealand!

Ok, I think this deserves a more detailed explanation. Now that I have more time to type, I'll try to make clear why I dislike the Brazilian national team.

First I must make absolutely clear that I like the country. I really do, even though as Grunger would say, it's a bit f*cked up at times.

That leads to another thing. We have problems. Lots of them. But the people don't seem to care about that if the NT is winning. It leads to situations like "My 14 yrs old daughter is pregnant and illiterate, but what the hell, have you seen Ronaldinho?" or the much more common "I can name the 1958 World Cup winning side off the top of my head. What? Who I voted for in the elections last year? I uh... forgot."

If the country was perfect, I wouldn't have a problem with the NT. After all, it makes people happy. The thing is, sometimes people shouldn't be. Happy people don't change things. Right now, we have a crap government (not that the candidates in the upcoming presidential election make me feel like it can't be worse). But what the f*ck, Brazil just beat Australia!

The talk in the streets isn't one about a major revolt on prisons orchestrated from within the walls through cell phones. It's about Ronaldo being fat. Or Ronaldinho playing better for Barca than the NT.

If someday the NT fails miserably, I hope we'll see improvements, since the people won't be distracted by football. That's why I want them to lose.

Of course it isn't that simple, though it would be a start.

Could you please add Argentina to your post, the same thing happens here too :jambo:

Crime, theft, and drug use is going through the roof...but who cares our NT beat S&M 6 to 0 :nape:

For example, last week in Argentina, it was 20 yrs. since the death of Jorge Luis Borges (our best writer), and it went completely unmentioned. The funny thing is that ironically, Borges always demonstrated his dislike for football everytime he could. Ironically it was football that made the memory of his death go completely unseen

You guys are crazy. There isn't a country in the world where the majority of people give a damn about real life issues. The masses just don't care. That's how it will always be. It's painful every time I hear someone go "oh, I just don't care about politics", but it's a pretty common view.

Not only did they crush them they sent a message today.

1)We play when....well .....we fell like it.

2)If you disrespect us on the field we will play you as equals. Hence the 2-0 wipping.

In the first half brazil played relaxed and calm, but when Australia tried to pick up the tempo they paid for it by conceding a second goal.

I think Brazil will lay back and let the youngsters play in the next game, resting the stars for the quarterfinals. I can't wait to see Brazil go full speed, they're not breaking a sweat as of yeah....metaphorically speaking.

When are you going to drop Ronaldo. That record belongs to der Bomber, Gerd Mueller. You know Ronaldo doesn't deserve it, so just drop him.

Adriano7

Youth Team
i thought ronaldo was much better today, remember this is only his 2nd "proper" game for a long time and he made alot more attempted runs than adriano 2day. yes he still looked like he was still abit short on his control etc, but i think all he needs is another 90minutes and he should be gettin closer to match fitness. i mean he's bin out of action for longer than rooney was and everyone could see he was off the pace, same with micheal owen he looks even more short of fitness than ronaldo but they are both in exact same positions. so all these people slagign him off sayin he;s just fat and lost it etc dont know anythin he needs more match time. and when ur short of fitness it affects everythin including your first touch, abilty to make lots of runs etc. So my opinion is let him get match fit before everyone slags him! how much runnin did adriano do today?? and how much younger is he?? and has he had the same amount of injurys as ronaldo this year?? why is he free from criticism??

How come he doesn't deserve it? Have you forgotten that is the guy who had two terrible knee injuries that made everyone say his carreer was over when he was by far the best player in the world, only for him to be the star of a WC afterwards?

A BIT ****ed up? Hehe, i would say we're in the mud right now. Football indeed is a distraction for our problems, but we have ourselves to blame anyway. We voted on a guy that cant speak 3 lines without looking like a fool, let alone run the country.

It's the World Cup tho mate, and it was quite predictable no-one would give a damn about anything else, except for it. Football is one of the few things that brings happiness to people, i mean, if we dont win the WC with that bunch of stars we've got, it's going to be a tragedy. The way i see it, people talk football every day, Brazil winning, or losing the Cup. If we are winning, we gloat. If we are losing, we moan, and that's how it is. We could worry about more important stuff, but well, in my humble opinion, people need a break from all the misery they have to put up with 24/7, and the WC is a good opportunity.

Talking about the game, well, seems we played on 2nd gear and i'm expecting something better come the round of 16. Kaká had a good game, so did Dinho (far below expectations, but expectations are too high), Ronaldo improved and same for Adriano. Robinho is becoming the fans favourite and is bound to enter the pitch every game now it seems. Our defense looked shaky as always, Dida with a blunder, so yes, everything well shapen at the back, as usual! (H)

Good post. But even if Brazil does miserably, it would only make people in Brazil sad. You see, they'd still talk about the NT, except this time they'd talk about how miserably they did, and what coach needs to take over, etc. I don't think anything else would change. At least when Brazil wins, people are happy for some moments. It's a way to forget they're problems.

Now, obviously I too think football shouldn't be given that much importance, but the changes needed to be implemented in Brasil are gonna take years.. And they weren't even implemented yet.

Austalia has such a one-dimensional style of play. They either lob the ball 70 yards into the box and hope their forwards will make something happen or they take it down the sidelines and cross, paying no attention to who is in the box. I guess that's two dimensions...

And why is Ronaldo still in the starting 11? If you pay attention, he is the only player on the field not running. For me it sticks out like a sore thumb, seeing him pace around up front.
