Help me out, but I warn you. I don't have the answer, so there is a great chance of you going crazy thinking about the answer.

It goes like this:

In front of you, there are two doors with one guard by each door. One of the doors leads to eternal happienss and a good life, the second door leads to hell.

One of the guards always lies, and one always tells the truth. You don't who stands infront of which door. You can only ask one question to one of the guards, and the question must be a yes/no answer question. What will you ask to find out which door leads to eternal happienss?

Anyone got a clue?

I know the answer too, it's quite an old question.... won't post the answer, as I don't want to spoil nird's fun...

I've got the answer but I shall make myself scarce now.

I have been thinking about this for a loooong time (I first heard it about a year ago). Please, PLEASE, ease my pain and PM the answer.

it would, the first question determines which one of them is lying.
but you can only ask one question
and you still wouldnt know if he is lying or not
cuz it is not like the one who is telling the truth guards the door to eternal happiness and the one who is lying guards the door to hell
you do not know what door does each guard look after

yes yes i know you only get one question, but what Ruud said would work but its 2 questions. and it would work.

If you ask one guy if he is guarding a door and he says "no" you know he's lying, so you know what the other guard is telling the truth to the question "is he guarding the door to hell".

i know you only get one question, but what Ruud said WOULD work, but wouldn't count as its 2 questions.

Well I don't see anything in your post that says that the guards would lie so I would just ask one of the guards "Do you guard the door that leads to hell?" if he would say yes I would just go through the other door.
