I think i have the answer(highlight below):

you simply ask either guard, would the other guard say yes or no if asked if his door was the door to eternal happiness etc.

Both answers result in a lie so u simply pick the other door

quite simple... let's say guard A always tells the truth, and B always lies...
If you ask something like: "if I ask the other guard if this is the way to hell, what would he say?"

Scenario 1, pointing to gate that leads to happiness.
If it's A, he knows B lies, and so B would say it IS the way to Hell, and A would then answer YES.
If it's B you're talking to, he knows A would tell the truth, and say it IS NOT the way to Hell... but B lies, and would say YES. all you'd have to do then is to go to the other door...

Scenario 2, pointing to gate that leads to Hell.
If it's A, he knows B lies, and so B would say it IS NOT the way to Hell, and A then would say NO.
If it's B you're talking to, A would say yes, but B lies and say NO... then you go through the door...

The key here is to use both guards to get the same answer to the question you ask, and then work your logic...

AHAH! Now I understand!

@ Eddy:
1. lets say you are talkin to the guard who's at the door to Happiness, then suppose you ask the guard: "If I ask the other guard if the door is to hell what would he say?". BOTH of em will say NO if the OTHER door is to happiness... Use your logic. Then you know that you are at the right door!

2. Lets say you are talkin to the guard at the door to Hell, then if you ask "If I ask the other guard if the door is to hell what would he say?". BOTH of 'em will say YES if the door is to hell... So you then go to the other door to happiness!

So you just have to ask any one of the guards "If I ask the other guard if the door is to hell what would he say?". If the guard say NO then the door is to happiness. If the guard says YES then the other door is to happiness. Therefore you only have to talk to one of the guards.

That is if the guard let's you go through the door. I mean those guards stand there for a reason :bob:

We got the exact same question in my Logic class to think about over the weekend... who says Soccer Gaming isn't educational?
