Help need on ML Extreme...

I started playing my first ML on hard, and won everything you could win and had an awesome team after five seasons. So, I decided that for a little challenge I would play on EXTREME. In my first season i finished last in D3 with 2 W & 1 T and won the tiny cup. In my third season I had 1 W, the rest losses. I then decided to start a new ML season, my record after four games is a pultry 0-2-2, scoring 2 goals and giving up 4.

So my questions are: What formation should I use, and how many players / what players should I pick up in negotiations?

Thanks in advance for your help!

i suggest ...

roberto carlos/maldini in defense

zidane/beckahm in center of midifeld

saviola/RVN in attack

Thanks for the suggestion, but it is impossible to get those players starting off with only 3000 in D3. Believe me, if I could get those players I would, but it's not going to happen.

Of those, Forlan, Donovan and Reyna are really the only ones you can get (and I'm not sure about forlan). But, Donovan could help a little (I edited him a bit to make him more realistic) and I've never used Reyna. The best way to get out of D3 on extreme is to sign better players (duh). I don't know of anyone who could get out with a completely default team, they are far too weak. Some of the players are useful though, I'm sure you have your favorites, but I used: Vorlander, Cellini, Espinas, Burchet and Miranda alot until I got to the top of D2. As for signing players, you just have to get the free agent ones. Try to scour the smaller country national teams and the eastern block countries from europe. Here is a list of players that did the business for me and got me out of D3 (but you really just have to look yourself, part of why the game is so fun!):
-Volensierra-Colombia
-Song-Cameroon
-Ruasez-Mexico
-Aristizbal-Colombia
-Lawal-Nigeria**** highly recommended
-Karpin and Mostovoi- Russia****
-Udeze-Nigeria
-Joaquin-Spain
-Mpenza-Belgium****
-Cavallero-Argentina
-Babangida-Nigeria****
-Issa-South Africa
-Adelson-Brazil****
-May-Man. Utd.

These are guys that at some point or another helped me out of the basement and I am currently killing it in D1 w/ at least 6 of those guys still contributing to my team (they could all still play, but we run a tight ship). Also, all of the people that would normally be on the team you are using are free agents so look for them as well... That's how I managed to get Beckham and RVN on the cheap once I got to D1 (but Ruud is better for Holland than for my club for some reason).
hope that helped

Your best bet is to scout around for cheap (200pts-300pts salary), free players. When I got out of div3 on my 2nd season (might have been 3rd, but I'm pretty sure it was 2nd) on Extreme I'd sharpened up my defence and attack a bit.

I used most of the default players, I think Castello is a pretty good forward and can score some cracking goals, but he lacks loads of pace, which helps on extreme. Even so I went for Sheringham to partner him, not quick but good with headers and seeing as my style was to cross from the wings generally I needed that ability in my front line (Baroja - just wasn't producing the goods and Huygens (great at first time shots) isn't a great headerer neither).

I think I only bought 2 players, I'll check later though, and they were Joel Reyes, wanted a bit more pace to cover at the back than what the defaults players had and Sheringham.

I found that when I started to stop the opposition scoring a lot, I started to win games 1-0, or 2-1. Before the opposition would often score 2+ goals in a game against me. But my strike force just wasn't good enough to get 2+. The weakness with the default defenders is just that they are so slow, and the attackers in div3, other than those for Villa and Firenze, aren't all that quick neither.

I've started a ML in Extreme 3 days ago. I've finished my first season in 3rd place (i almost enter in the playoffs). I have an ultradeffensive system... 5-3 2: Kelsen; Vorlander; Abelardo, Cecil, Eddington, Natchegal; Espinas, Cellini, Ximenes; Palermo and Tare.
I'm making Man Marking with Abelardo and Cecil (specialist on MM), Vorlander plays free on defense (Libero -LIB-). I've lost the Tiny Cup final. Now i'm preparing the offseason and i'm planing to buy 2 SH, i don't know yet who, i have not much money (2500pts).
Cheers!

my question is, how in the hell do you acquire all those guys in D3. even cutting some deadweight i'm barely able to negotiate for one decent player, and i'm really doing quite well in the league. what's the secret to balancing points and gaining players that quickly?

The pleayers i bought were free contacts, i've offered not much money for them.
The secret is that i'm trying not losing any game, so if i do not lose games, i don't lose money, i do not win much money (30 pts per game) but i can negotiate some free contacts with the 3000 pts from the start.
It is difficult, but if you use an ultradefensive system, maybe you can get some draws. The first game i've draw 0-0, in the second game i was really lucky, Castoro scored at the final of the game, so in the 3rd round, when the Transfer period started, i had more than 3000 pts to negotiate Palermo, he is great, specially to play by air, long ball from defense.
The thing is that in Extreme you can't win many pts for winning, it's hard, but it's great!! i love this game, Extreme it's great!!!

WE6FE: these are some players I acquired for my first season in EXTREME which I advanced to Div. 2 by my second season!

Shorunmu KP Nigeria
Sergi SB (left footed) unlocked player
Coloccini CB unlocked player
Di Natale WG (both feet) unlocked player
Arellano OH Mexico
Donovan CF USA

These are all very cheap and GOOD players! They did great for me atleast.

I played a 3-5-2 (2 DH). I would switch my formation to a 5-3-2 if I had a 1 goal lead late in the game (75-80 min) and just play defense, or, I would swtich to a 5-3-2 in the 65 minute if I had a lead by 2 goals, then I would just play defense. In reference to my unlocked player, I believe they were unlocked when I had previously beat the ML Div. 1 when I had played on HARD.

Never be too cheap! That is the best advice I could give. You end up building up a larger default team basically! I found players with significant stats in specific places. Donovan, speedy, good accleration, good finishing. My MF players, all speedy with average ball control and long passing and can finish. My back line, good defense with respectable speed. So, not stars, but people who can get the job I want done!

Here's one word for success in ML Extreme Div 3:
BABANGIDA..........whoosh !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, he's one of the quickest, if not the speediest player in ML.

What I normally do is play 3-5-2 (two DH), my first signings would be Babangida + one striker who has good heading and teamwork stats. (Eg: Klose (Germany) or Vorobei (Ukraine))

Put Babangida on the right wing, let him set up goals for your tall striker....it worked for me.
Once you get into Div 2, then you can start getting better players.

Other useful players:
Defence: Diatta, Diop (Senegal), Mokoena (SAfrica),
West (Nigeria), Song(Cameroon) Zewlakow (Poland)
Juanfran (Spain) Frechaut (Portugal)
Midfield: Tofting (Denmark) Arellano (Mexico)
Lawal (Nigeria) Stewart (USA)
Strikers: Donovan, McBride (USA) Kovacevic (Yugoslavia)

There are some guys in the FREE list (F), some of them have ridiculously low salaries (like 5-10 points). You MUST check
them out.
(Miccoli (Italy) , Ferrante (Italy) , Ailton (Brazil)

Who are these three? All current players? I noticed them too and didn't buy them cause I felt like that would be cheating and make it WAY too easy!:p

Babangida though. whooo... he is a must buy! I bought him my second season. Great pace. I was wondering though. I have never seen him play I think. Does his FE counterpart mimic the real life Babangida at all (skills wise)?

Hey Agrippa, to be quite honest, it took me two seasons to get out of D3 the first time I tried it on extreme (not to say that you can't, but it's tough, and I didn't even think to sign new players, thought I could win with the scabs I had:(). And about getting all those players, I was lucky, I had Lazio offer me 8000 pts for Vorlander! Can you believe that?!? well it's not true:)
Heck noooooooooo!!! There is no way on any planet that anyone could sign all those guys at once. My game would be over immediately as I would have run out of points. But, thru my course of playing the game these guys have been the cheapest and most effective way to get into higher divisions. Alot of guys say go for Babangida (who I love), but he to me was too expensive working on my shoe string D3 budget. Later on in the season I may splurge and go for someone worth 270+, but I prefer to start with guys who are not much more than 200 cuz you can get more of them and in D3 a couple of pretty good players is better than I very good player. Anyways, to make a long explanation short, you should just try to get one solid guy at each position (I mean gk, df, md, fw). You'll find that even just a good midfielder and forward are all you really need, cuz the hardest thing for me was to get goals. Honestly, Mostovoi carried my team of dead beats out of D3 by himself. The cpu guys are bad and a good attacker will see you get at least a point from all games, and you can get out of D3 w/ more ties than wins, just keep the losses down.

p.s.- cut the guys immediately that you know you won't use. There are a couple of guys I hate on the ml team cuz I know that they won't do anything even if they have pretty good stats, so take the point hit cuz it's usually not that much and you'll get make more money in the end

All good advice (if he is still reading this thread hopefully)!

I didn't buy Babangida until I moved on to D2. He is too expensive for my taste with the budget you start out with in D3. I mentioned some solid players in my prior post if you want to give them a try!

As a definite though, lose the boys you don't use as soon as possible! If you can keep those losses at a minimum or even better, no losses, you should do great! I remember some of my best games where my last minute scores in injury time to end the game in a tie!

Well Miccoli, Ferrante play in Serie A, both are young upcoming strikers in the Italian national team. Ferrante plays for FC Torino and I think Miccoli plays for Perugia/Parma.
Ailton plays for Werder Bremen and I think he's been around for a while.
Well I needed all the help I could get when I was in Div 3, so I'm not complaining if I could sign these guys.

I've seen Babangida play for Ajax in the mid-90s when they won the Champions League in 95. He was pretty quick. No idea where he plays nowadays though ??
But Konami have made him too fast in WE.
But he is a lifeline for many people in Div 3. I've signed him in most of my ML campaigns...

But in WE6FE ever since they made free transfers not so "free", I've signed Babangida after I've managed to save a bit of money.
So he's normally my 5th or 6th signing.

After running out of contract with Ajax last summer Babangida had a short spell with Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. He returned to Ajax's second team this spring to keep his fitness. There are currently negotiations underway for him to join the Chinese outfit Tianjin Master-Kang. He has one year left on his Ajax contract.

He must really be over-rated in the WE series. He's going to play for a Chinese Club. Also, he finished up with a Saudi Arabian club!? No offense, but with those ratings, he should be doing much better with some talented clubs. Maybe I am missing something here. Anyway, thank you for the info! It's always nice to learn new things!

not extreme, but...

I don't play extreme level, but what helped me in my ML team was getting a decent GK as soon as I could. I went with Chilavert, who's not only a good keeper but also a good free kick taker. In fact, I scored a few goals with him the first season off free kicks. Plus his teamwork rating is high so he makes a good captain.

Of course, I've never played extreme mode, so I may not know what the hell I'm talking about.

A friend and I played our first Extreme CO-OP ml, and actually go out of d3 in our first season!.. With MOSTLY default players. Had a great saeason.. we were 4-0 off the start with castoro scoring 3 goals in 3 games.. We then brought in Ailton, Miccoli and Ferrante ALL smart buys. But I have never gotten out of d3 in my first season, on Normal or Hard.. playing in my own season or in a co-op ML. So when we started extreme we had no nidea that we would win D3, and then BARELY get out of th eplayoffs and into d2 in our first season.. It was a great achievement IMO :).

And yes you can get out of d3 will default players.. its the person playign the game more then its the players.. Although real players dont hurt ya ;) good luck
