To answer your questions, yes, yes, and yes. CM has had all of those since at least CM3, which would have been the 98/99 season. But one thing I disagree with Tom about is that you put "Full" detail for the country you use. I find putting one country on "full" slows the game down 10 times more than having a Huge database. Normal detail is fine, and I prefer to go up to the Large database because you'll have more players from leagues you don't have selected. Also, for nations you don't plan on playing in, I suggest only selecting the main leagues. Like only the Bundesliga for German for example instead of the whole shabang, likewise only maybe the EPL or the top two leagues in England.

Best formation in 01/02 was the WWW formation which was something outrageous that a tactics genius over at the dugout made. I took Rushden and Diamonds (ok, not the hardest D3 team, but come on, they were still D3!) to promotion in successive seasons to the EPL. And the stadium never upgraded! I was playing in Europe with some dump stadium with under 10k capacity. Man that was a fun game though! I had some money, but not to throw around, so you know I was looking for guys to bring in on loan, and always looking for new players when the game updated, and sending scouts out to look for english "youth players". And then bringing a kid up from obscurity at 18 without a team, signing him into my new D2 team, putting him directly in the lineup and watching him carry us to the Premiership. You'll love this game Se7en, it's just amazing. By the way, here's that story, I actually managed to bring in some decent players, like Ian Pearce, Darius Vassell, Phillipe Mexes, Leon Knight.

So what's the difference between selecting large or full. I mean what players from the full database aren't included in the large ones (the ones from the lower leagues?)? And if I install it on a completely empty drive (that has 30gb let's say), will the game run faster than on a normal, ocuppied, drive? So if I select to have the large database I believe it will contain all the leagues in the country you used and the players from the main division of the other main leagues?
I know, I know, many questions :(.

I don't think there'll be a significant performance difference if you have the game in an empty drive or an occupied one... as for the database... I guess Tom will be able to inform you better than me, but I always play Large db... also, I never play full detail as I don't usually want to check other teams' results/players in depth...

I don't have the greatest computer, but I find full detail takes the game from "slow, but bearable, and still faster than when I was playing 01/02" to "unbearably slow, it takes 3 hours to get through every weekend because you see every game in the world being played"

So full means that all the games in the world are being simulated? Good god :O.
Think I'll go with large or even normal.

Well, no not really. Unless you selected every nation in the world and all their leagues, and had full detail on them. But no computer could possibly handle that. I was exaggerating about every game in the world.

You need to keep in mind there is two different depth settings. One is for the database, meaning how many players from other leagues/nations are included from the base database - based on their reputation - this will slow the progress mostly between seasons, but also a little during regular play; the other for the league detail, which will set the depth of simulation of the leagues and cups you don't compete in - this slows day-to-day progress down heavily, but between seasons not as much.

I always select normal for the league simulation, as full doesn't really add much compared to the slow-down. Even on my dad's 3GHz dual core machine with 1.5 GB RAM it runs as slow as maple syrup. The player depth is way more important, especially in the higher leagues. Not only do you get a bigger selection of good players, but the opposition does so as well. Makes the game much more interesting.

Don't worry Theo. I was like you 4 years ago. I had TCM 03 and I was afraid to try out CM4 at that point. But I did thanks to this forum (well the old one anyway). And yeah, play the game your way.

I know, I know, many questions :(.

For the first question, full (huge) database takes a long time to load up for me (on 256 MB RAM) but you will have the opportunity to sign a variety of players that might not appear on large database and lower.

For the second question, the speed of the game pretty much depends on the database and the amount of RAM you have. For example, your game will be slower if you have more leagues running and your game will be faster if your RAM is bigger.

I hope that will help you enough.

I'm upgrading to 1GB RAM tomorrow. :rockman:

you lucky mofo:rockman:

btw, i always use the same scheme: Italy Serie A, English Premier Legue, Spain Primera. And then the one i play in, for instance Portugal Superliga. If i play in one of the first three...i usually use the 'Load All Players From' option, normally i load all players from Brazil:brow: ...i use large database with this options...not that i have a bad computer, it's just that with this options i've made it to 2012 and still had no problem like 2-hour-game-savings:p...

Meh, I play Large DB, 6 leagues (3 or 4 nations) normal detail and it runs pretty fast for me. I finish a season averagely in 14 hours. With the same settings it used to take 20 hours for me on FM05, and I havent changed my playingstyle (H)

yeah, well, FM05 was pretty slow compared to the previous editions, and with this one...this one runs pretty smooth, i finish a season in let's say about 13,14, hours too..

Now I'm back in France (:() I'm going to start FM again. I feel the urge to try a lower league side (Rotherham? :p) but I think I'll play it safe and go with 'pool. :)

Will report back tomorrow . . . that's if I even get to my first game :$

Finally got the game. I did what Tom told me to, selected 6 countries (Italy - full, Spain, England, Germany, France, Romania - the rest on normal) and I only had to wait for like 5 minutes (I swear, don't know how it takes you guys that long, 512mb RAM here). I'll try to get used to the game a bit and after the patch finishes to download (will take a while), I'll start getting serious on playing :).

Depends on the leagues and database setting, of course. I usually start 4 to 6 leagues from 1 or 2 nations (all normal) on large database, and that starts in under a minute.
