How you became fan of your fav team?

How this became that you support your favourite team? Does your family supported this team from generations? Or maybe it's just a pure case that you support them? Tell us your story.

Believe it or not, I was only 4 years old when I watched Manchester United on TV for the first time and I remember liking the team because they were in red - we went on holiday that year and my mum bought me a mug with a drawing of a match and a speech bubble saying "Man Utd are magic" and that was it. As I got older I began to learn more about the game and stayed with United (though at Junior school everyone supported Liverpool - and I had to pretend to or get kicked in) My Gran and Grandad knew I supported a team in red (and Adidas shirts. United's and Liverpool's were fairly similar in the late 80's early 90's) And assumed it was Liverpool that was my team and proceded to shower me with Liverpool kits (home and away) And I had to act like the kid who gets a bad knitted jumper for Xmas! Until I started secondary school at 11 years old and made a decision not to pretend anymore. I asked my Grandparents for the Liverpool gifts to stop and softly added that I supported United (they thought I'd just changed my mind) I went out and bought my very first Man Utd shirt (that really busy white and blue away shirt, with the adidas logos all over) I never pretended to be anything other than a United supporter since, because I'm a Red Devil and damned proud of it.

I saw this team in cool red shirts playing against some other team. The red team had this cool looking guy with a neat hair-cut and they won thanks to that guy, he gave 2 great corner kicks in the last minutes. It turned out that the title they won was their 3rd in that season and since my fave club Real got kicked out of the very same tournament by some Kiev side, I decided to start supporting Man U.

I always choose club by kit looking. Who got best kit, then i support this club :D That's how i got Dynamo Kiev. Well i mean you have to start somewhere. I don't like supporting teams that are all that top 10 in Europe. It's not really fun. I'm supporting Dynamo for over 6 years now and i'm glad i am.

same here. my family have been supporting UTD for generations. they all come from manchester! my father systematically brainwashed me and i am very grateful!

Hmm, how did i get to love Steaua Bucharest? Well, it's kinda simple ...
My grandfather was a very BIG Steaua fan. My dad is also a GREAT Steaua fan.
They watched the football games together, they supported the same team but they'd always fight cause of that :) ... i was curios why...
I started watching Steaua matches also... and i started to like the team.
My dad is a sports journalist and he likes statistics... he has all kinds of sport books, and he has many about Steaua ... all official Annuary Albums/Books or Steaua , of Champions League (93-98) and many many more ... so i started reading those books about Steaua and about the other teams in romania ... and somewhere in this time i became the Steaua fan that i am today ... :)

I became a fan so that I could write this story every time one of these threads came up.

Hooray for circular reasoning!

some of you guys have totally weird reasons to being fans of the team you like

mine is pretty simple, it's my hometown team and when i was getting really into football (back in '86) we were starting a ten year period known as our golden era, after all the suffering we finally had a decent team playing in Paris.
