Like it or not, Australia is a minow nation. We have done nothing on the world stage and until we do something we are and always will be .. a minow.

I agree, let the minows compete with the minows, let Australia compete with American Samoa, and so on.

The AFC is for Asian nations, the OFC is for nations in the Oceanic region, a area Australia falls under.

OFC doesn't deserve a full spot but the best thing I think to do is to let the OFC have its half a spot playoff against an Asian nation, not a South American.

Australia shouldn't join the AFC.

Don't get me wrong I can see the benefits of this but what about the rest of the OFC? For so long Australia fought for the rights of the OFC and then they are going to abandon them like that because it suits them?

In an ideal world yes, Australia would stick by the OFC and push for an automatic qualification spot. But in this instant the current state of affairs is really quite sad; I mean Australia is clearly miles ahead of the rest of the OFC teams, you only need to look at that ridiculous 31-0 scoreline to see things that.

Besides I don't know what so many people are complaining about. If they play in the AFC then maybe they will compete for a spot and make sure teams like Saudi Arabia(or any other weak team) don't qualify and make fools out of themselves.

If the OFC don't reject it, FIFA most certainly will. Sorry Australia, but looks like your attempt to pass yourself off as "Asian" will fail. However, if you guys miss out on 2006 in Germany, maybe you could lobby FIFA into making your qualifying playoff against an Asian team. It's not as if they are gonna give a sh*t about your concerns, but it's worth a try.

I guarantee u CONCACAF wont allow that. Its easier for a 4th place CONCACAF team like Guatemala or T&T to try and qualify vs an Asian team as opposed to trying to beat a 5th place CONMEBOL team.

Australia needs better teams to go against. Versing amateur teams like new zealand isn't really helping australia do much. Our rpuetation needs to improve. Against asian teams like South korea, japan our ratings and hopefully our rankings will skyrocket!
Cant wait until Australia verse indonesia on tuesday i'm going to see it! Good things about seeing australia verse crap teams is itll b an entertaining 20-0 victory!

My hatred for Australia grows, they have to Cheat and make it easy for them so they can make the WC. So now if Australia can do this, some south american coutries can join the CONCACAF so they can have a better shot at making the wc. **** you australia, thanks for messing everything up.

I got nothing against Australia, but they really don't deserve any special treatment or help trying to qualify for the WC. It's just not fair to other countries. Especially when 90% of their qualifying matches end up with over 20 goals in their favour....even teams like Lichtenstein, Malta, & the Faroe Islands almost never lose by more than 5-6 goals. You know how many countries would just die for their WC qualification to depend on just one playoff against a 5th place S.A. team?

They should let Iceland or Latvia replace Australia in Oceania, I'd seriously fancy their chances in qualifying against Ecuador or Venezuela..

If i recall correctly Israel moved from the AFC to the UEFA but the only world cup they qualified to they were still in the AFC right?

actually Israel left AFC and was rejected by UEFA in first instance. They played the qualifiers for 1970 in the OFC (the only confederation that accepted them) and have qualified for Mexico. They played the 74 and 78 qualifiers in OFC too and only joined UEFA in 1982.

The CONMEBOL is the confederation with the lesser teams out there, probably having 1 or 2 more wouldn't hurt, more likely not Mexico, i'm thinking why Guyana and Surinam aren't affillied to the CONMEBOL, when they're in South America. Evidently that wouldn't change the course of the south american football but eh, that'd be something.

CONCACAF is only for the struggle, no-one else allowed.

Except Guam and Greenland, they're very welcome here.

it would be the rightest decision. if CONCACAF were united with CONMEBOL the USA could forget about their easy WC spot. however, it will not happen.
