FIFA 2005 is a polished FIFA 2004, and 2004 was RUBBISH! I'm not a happy FIFA "fan". The only football game that I love playing is PES, the one thing that stopped me from turning to Konami's side was because of the whole real player names, etc. But that doesn't bother me anymore, I want to play something truly realistic, the BEST football simulation you can buy and FIFA 2005 has failed. EA should stop with the "pick up and play" crap and realise that football players' want to LEARN and have a game that actually wants to make you go to practice mode and train, not just select it because they left it out last time
The free kick system is a complete joke, and so is the corner system, absolute joke.
The shooting, bah! don't get my started, all players' shoot the same, only attributes make the difference. Players' can hit the ball with extreme unrealistic power with a slight swing of the foot, HOW CAN YOU PLAY THIS GAME?!
First touch is pretty cool, but by no means does it make me explode in my pants like the previews suggested. It's going to take a lot more then a quick flick of a receiving ball to get me excited!
Well I'm glad I didn't get sucked in this year, I'll buy PES4...a game that will have me jumping out of my chair, screaming at the screen and jumping like a mad man when I score that screamer!!
FIFA 2005 is alright, but by no means is it some sort of 'brilliant' game, or anything that Konami couldn't do. On the other hand, it seems quite clear that EA can't make a game as good as Konami's when it comes to playing football and getting your kit dirty.

Those previews of FIFA 2005 saying it could beat PES were simply playing a beta and seeing potential. The game obviously didn't change that much to actually beat PES, because it's far from it.

1. I can agree about the freekicks even tho I like them I can undetstand not many do. The corners suck beacuse of the fact that you can't even make a short pass.
Comparing to PES 3: They have a old fashion way to make corners and freekicks wich could be good. I like it to but I understand people who doesn't like it.
2. The shooting is unrealistic at many ways, you already know how.
Comparing to PES 3: I think they were unrealistic to in the way that players stamp in the grass before they shoot and low shots aren't naturall. Besides I think just a little more power in a shoot makes the ball go way to high.
3. First touch. I love it. Perfect. It's an enjoyment for me, who knows what first touch is all about and what it means for a striker like me or Ronaldo or Henry. The first touch is the ultimate attribut for a superb goalscorer.
Comparing to PES 3: It actually have first touch already in a way. But it's not that good but the fact that it's already there shows PES is really on the right track.
Overall I don't think you give reasons that matters about Fifa 2005 cause the things you wrote is things that not important for me. On a scale of 1-10 I scale the importance of the freekicks 5, of the corners 3, of the shooting 6, first touch 9.
In PES 3 I would've give this things a grade on a 1-10 scale for freekicks 6, corners 7, shooting 5, first touch 6.
The things I like with Fifa 2005 is the through balls, through crosses, players running in deep, passing system, the new accelerate system with ball, the graphics, the atmosphere and the defending system.

i think the shooting in pes 3 was top notch!
the harder you press shoot, the harder the shot, it really had you banging your controller and getting into the game! all they need is a few more animations, but they are still ******* brilliant!
Corners, yeah, i can understand they can get repetative after a while, i still enjoy them though...
i think free kicks are good, they are hard, but thats good.
especially looking at pes 4 (i haven't played yet)
the new free kick system where you can use 2 men looks great!

bottom line is: anyone who says that fifa 05 is better than pes3 is either blind, has never seen a footie match or just doesnt see gameplay as an important feature..(my sincere sympathy to anyone who IS blind and prefers fifa...ya dont know what ur missin...although this post isnt really gonna make much difference, what with the not being able to read it and all...if someone reading this knows a blind person who is partial to fifa then can i please ask u to show them the error of their ways??)
as somebody said already in this thread, there is no comparing fifa and pes....its like comparing pearl jam and backstreet boys.......one is just so much ahead of the other that comparing them is just plain mean
one more thing, i hate this rubbish about buying both games for different reasons...thats just a load of pony....either u buy one game and play it all the time(pes) or u buy the other game and play it for a week(fifa)

I played Fifa 2003 for a year and still played it when Fifa 2004 came out. Absolutely loved it. So good.
But Fifa 2004 sucked hard. I played it for as you say a week and PES for a month... then uninstalled it and sold it... now playing it once in a week after I took my friends cause he don't like it.
I know I will play Fifa 2005 every day and love to play Real Madrid in La Liga with this great first touch and passing, defending system. Wow. I am looking forward to the full version. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! HERE I COME!
