It's the little things...

I can honestly say that WE6I still surprises me with it's realism with every new game I play! There are always new little details and happenings I notice in-game that make this game as amzingly realistic as it is..

Post some of the cool things you've noticed while playing WE6I...

Recently for me, some cool things I've seen..

- I was playing a qualifying game in cup mode France vs. Portugal...Henry fired a low hard shot from the edge of the box, it hit the post and rolled across my goal line, then it hit the other post, then hit my GK and rolled slowly into the net!

-In match mode...I was using Celtic and playing against Real Madrid. Raul fired a powerful header and my GK flew across the face of the goal and pulled off what looked like the save of the century...all off a sudden the score flashes up 1-0! I looked at the replay in slow- motion and the ball had actually crossed the line (just barely) when my GK got a hand to it.

Maybe this doesn't seem like much, but that's the kind of small details that add to the realism. Something you definatly don't see in FIFA.

Well said Shinji. I just want to add an incident I noticed the other day. I was playing Aston Villa and Parlour went up for a ball with Staunton. Staunton elbowed Parlour in the back. Amazingly Parlour got up and looked at Staunton face to face while the live ball just sat on the ground! I really couldn't fathom this. Also while playing Marseilles their forwar missed an easy chance and stood there head in his arms while I took the goalkick. Their midfielder headed downfield staright back to him, but the idiot was still holding his head a minute later and caught offside!

I am continuing to discover the wonder of the through-pass, it's amazing the scoring opportunity it creats, and more importantly, how real they look! I scored what I'd say was a picture-perfect goal last night with it, it was a through-pass sent from mid field to the empty space behind the defenders, my winger made a run, caught up to the ball, and sent it through the arms of the GK, into the far corner of the goal. It was beautiful. :rockman:

- first sliding shot today!!! => looked amazing! i love all them sliding moves, like shots, centers, saves - today i had a game against... some team and their attacker took a powerful shot, the ball hit the post and was rollin along the goal line - my defender quickly ran up and made an awesome sliding save!

Cool!

Yeah, there are definitely some neat small touches thrown into WE6. I love the way the players give each other crap after fouls and stare each other out and start getting aggrevated. You start to notice how if you start playing dirty that the other team who was previously playing clean also start kicking lumps, pushing, elbowing etc. I really love the fact that the referees are so inconsistent just like in real life. It's great to get away with a really bad foul on a player leaving him in a heap on the floor when a few minutes later their player gets booked for push in the back. It makes the whole thing more passionate when you can laugh at the other team and feel like you're winding them up or when you're screaming at the referee becasue he's showing favoritism towards the other team.

I've had the opposition goalkeeper booked a couple of times, how pissed off did he look?!?! I've also managed to late slide the keeper when he's kicked the ball out and leave him in a pile on the floor and he's been real slow getting up. Once the ball went out to my forward and I just lobbed the ball back in over his head while he was in agony on the floor.

Playing FIFA 2003 is so sterile in comparison to WE6. Despite the real uniforms, teams and player, FIFA doesn't have a fraction of the atmosphere of WE6 because it's the soccer playing itself that makes the atmosphere real like you're actually playing the game.:f***:

Man, I've seen gentle lobs cleared off the line with a header, headers saved with keepers and defenders, sliding low crosses, thousands of different deflections off players and goalframes...too much realistic stuff to fit into one post.....

the game must be seen to be believed, for sure.

Well, I played using Ireland in International Cup mode. Shay Given was yellow carded for a sliding tackle outside the penalty box, rushing to stop Crespo's individual sprint. Man, this was SWEET !! :rockman:

Anyone ever notice a defender turn towards the linesman and raise his arm to indicate an offside, even before the whistle is blown!? :D

yep...this game ownz!:rockman:

Yeah, this happens quite often though, but the awesome thing is when the defenders misjudge the offside when it's not so the striker has a clear path to the goal while the defenders are just standing there with their arms in the air, that's so AWESOME, REALISM!!

I was defending a corner, mind u, its a really close game. The ball comes in an attacker heads it to the left of my keeper, I'm like damn its in. But then I realise that although the keeper missed the ball, my player guarding the post had managed to halt the ball and had it at his feet. I frantically hit the shoot button to send the ball to touch.
Thats realism for you.

The funniest thing is when a player gets hit square in the nuts by the ball and they hunch over realistically.

Also, the other day I completely cocked up a corner. I was trying to lift it to the far post but without thinking I pulled down on the stick and it ended up being a worm-burner to the near post. My defender just happened to be there and slotted the ball home with his first touch. It's messing it up and realising that you've just pulled off a great move.

One of the original feature that still amaze me is how Konami managed to give players their real characteristic in real life. Rivaldo will always attemp to kick the ball with his left, unlike in FIFA where he can score 48 yards free kick with his . . . RIGHT:| , and Carlos is so lightning paced. And no, eventough EA fanatics keeps braggin` how their graphics kicks ass, in my opinion, Konami`s also got decent graphics. Well I agree, that FIFA graphics deserve a rate of 9, but their gameplay probably deserve only 4, the aveage score is 6.5, Konami got a gameplay that deserve a 10, and graphics 7, so the average score is 8.5. So that proves whose game is better.

Yeah I agree. It is so amazing that you can really see the difference in the player stats and even the ways different teams play. I also agree that the graphics aren't bad either.

Concerning the graphical presentation of WE/PES games, here is an interesting quote from the ISS3 producer:

In terms of presentation, how have you updated the visuals and sound for ISS 3, and how would you rate your player likenesses alongside the competition?

Okuda: We've updated the graphics to be a little more vivid, and added the material "feel" (material of the skin, the uniform etc) to make it more realistic. We've also added cut-scenes of the manager and his expressions, so that the atmosphere of the bench will be united with what is happening on the pitch.

We thought that we got a good responses concerning the sound side of ISS. The commentary and the "colour commentary" have been improved so that you can hear what is happening in the match.

Concerning the likenesses of the players, the FIFA series takes the approach of capturing each characteristic. PES tries to take the approach of seeing the player from a distance and seems not to concentrate too much on the close-up of the faces. ISS tries a very normal approach, to make the characters look like the actual players.

He is pretty accurrate about how FIFA and WE/PES approach to graphics. FIFA does not look good when played using far away camera because EA concentrates on the closeup view. PES/WE on the other hand looks awesome on distance view. Though I have to disagree on the closeup view. WE6FE player's faces look awesome.

Here is the whole interview regarding ISS 3.

Will KONAMI counter EA by having WE7 and PES3 online. Looks like FIFA2004 will have online capabilities on the PC and PS2. I recalled in an interview, SeaBass mentioned that Europe's Internet structure is not where KONAMI would like it to be to have online play. I know the US has a very good Internet structure as does Japan. So online play would greatly increase the sells of WE7 since the gameplay is already great. Here is the article regarding FIFA's online capabilities.

I saw this : the CPU blasted the ball over the bar, my team ( Man U was down 1-0 ), Barthez quickly turn around, moving his fingers as if he was demanding the crowd behind him to give the ball quickly, cos` his team was down by one goal.
