Sagnol to Juve row escalates
Saturday 17 December, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Willy Sagnol has confirmed his excitement at an imminent move to Juventus, but Bayern Munich chief Karl Heinz Rummenigge insisted he’d block the deal.

“Juventus are a great club who have a lot of respect for their players, just as Bayern do,” Sagnol told ‘La Gazette des Verts’ magazine.

“Serie A football has always intrigued me and I want to continue picking up trophies and playing alongside great stars. There are many other Frenchmen at Juve who can help me to settle in quickly. Above all, I really want to work with a world class Coach like Fabio Capello.”

The French international’s contract with Bayern is up at the end of the season and he made it clear his time in the Bundesliga is up.

“I want to know a new style of football, even if I must admit my years at Bayern were formative ones. If I had stayed, I would’ve been given the captain’s armband, but there are so many players like Michael Ballack, Claudio Pizarro and Oliver Kahn walking away in the summer. I think my era in Munich is over and I have other aspirations.”

This is the first official confirmation from Sagnol himself that the move to Juventus is sewn up, but it only further infuriated Bayern director Rummenigge, who had already described the club’s transfer strategy as “life the Mafia.”

“Director General Luciano Moggi did not act in a gentlemanly manner, but everyone knows how he works,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.

“He spoke to Sagnol when Bayern and Juve were playing each other in the Champions League and should have informed us of these talks. Does he think we’re all idiots in Munich? It’s not over yet, as Sagnol will never join Juventus. I can say this for certain.”

-------------------

Gosh... that Rummenigge is one sore loser. Sagnol has the ambition to join Juve, face it. Although nothing is signed yet. How is he going to stop this anyway?

he's not (H)

btw, Karl can't be pissed just for Sagnol. ;)

HT Juve-Lazio 1-1

Lazio's goal, while they'd owned play up to that point, can simply be put down to Thuram's inability to clear the ball
Anyone who saw this would have been twitching in anger after the goal, it really shouldn't have happened

Juve equalised 10 mins later, Trezeguet, as usual, hadn't touched it virtually, but when he does he scored

From then on Juve owned play pretty much, but nothing too meaningful came from it. Ref let the game get out of control a bit towards the end.

Better players for me are Cannavaro, Ibrahimovic, Vieira

DP should come on, during the second half if a winner isn't looking likely

FT 1-1.

First draw of the season for Juve.

Peruzzi made couple of good saves to prevent Juve from scoring the winner.

Thuram's mistake cost Juve the win. Lazio never looked like scoring otherwise. Not once. (except Pandev in stoppage time)

Zlatan had a good chance which I'm sure Trezeguet would have put away.

Meh. Not that dissapointed. Lazio aren't easy to play away.

We missed Emerson in the middle. Blasi just isn't good enough. Nedved had a very average game by his standards.

Also, why is Capello so reluctant to make changes ? He waited till the 80th minute to finally introduce Del Piero and who does he bring him for ? Trezeguet ! Someone you want around especially when he has already scored once and came oh so close to a 2nd.

Keeping Trezeguet on would have been better than bringing in Zalayeta for Camo later on.

Anyway, leads are there for safety and Juve are well clear. No shame dropping a couple of points to Lazio. Lot better than losing to Chievo ;) heh.

the referee was great... for Juve :p.
aside from some questionable calls/non-calls, i felt like the ref had no authority. he gives a yellow card, warns the player, and the player goes and makes another terrible foul.
otherwise Juve dominated most of the match, that save from Peruzzi on trez's attempt was great, and the pass from Ibra before that too.
btw, was that a handball in the end? didnt see the replays, i was switching channels, the commentator said a juve player mightve handled it.

Chiellini was blocked by Cannavaro and the ball fell in between them. Wasn't a handball ... a case of ball to hand due to obstruction more than anything else.

i mean right in the end, when a Lazio player took a shot from outside the box, and a juve player redirected it, presumably with his hand. if they didnt show it, it probably wasnt a handball tho...

Sometimes I forget how great Del Piero once was.
that video is great too, the commentary is perfect, and a lot of different camera angles of the goals, which makes it good because i'd seen nearly all of them before

on the lazio game

capello was way to slow to bring in DP, he and zalayeta were a breath of fresh air when coming on

blasi should have been taken out instead of trez, the camo one was probably the correct call though, although late

one other thing, zambrotta dominates far less often on the right

i'd rather blasi or zebina (when he returns) at RB with zambrotta at LB
the chemistry just isn't there between nedved and chiellini (early days i know), nedved cracked it at him during the lazio game also

ahahahah ice great comment mate. i think these milanisti feel a bit vulnerable!

on the game, my god 1-1 against lazio and 4-1 against roma. at the same venue. lazio look o have something on us every time we play them. great to see them having that fight and have the ability to actually try for a result.

gotto love comments like "Chasing pack close on Juve"... since when is being 8 and 9 points adrift called "closing in" ?

heh. Taking advantage would have been if Juve lose to a team like Ascoli or something while the others capitalize. The lead Juve have built so far is exactly meant for such tricky games like the Lazio one.

if juve were extending the lead to 8 points this round instead of having it cut back, the media would be saying "Juve break clear" instead of "Inter catch Juve"

when infact the net result is the same: 8pt lead, Juve untouchable at the moment

here moggi77,
goal.com had a little article on upcoming argentine stars.

Rodrigo Palacio

Date of Birth: 05/02/1982 (23)-Bahia Blanca.
Height: 1.75m.
Weight: 66kg.
Position: Striker.

Since arriving at Boca Juniors this year from Banfield Palacio has become one the best strikers in Argentina. He is Boca’s leading scorer in the Apertura Championship with 5 goals, and on the weekend drilled in a brilliant strike against Racing. The ‘Jewel’, as he is called by the Argentine press has won himself a place in Boca’s starting line-up this season, beating the likes of Boca idol Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Marcelo Delgado. Palacio represented Argentina in a World Cup Qualifier match against Bolivia in March, and his recent outstanding form could lead to another call up.

there was also these other two young midfielders (both from boca) who were on the list Neri Cardozo and Fernando Gago........ maybe we could make a swoop. Zala may be a good bargaining chip.
