Oh yeah, saw that last night too. Pretty much my thoughts. For once, he movie didn't feel like it was riding on the merits of the book, but made for a decent film at itself, although, it's tough to judge knowing it's just the first part of something bigger. Hopefully a lot bigger.

Matador by Pedro Almodovar - wonderfully perverse film about Necrophilia and the mania resulting from enforced piety.

Almodovar is a director I highly recommend - you dont have to be really into foreign or art house films to like him, and for those interested in the darker and more perverse side of the human psyche, you will relish especially his early work. Good films to start on are Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Break Down, Dark Habits and What Have I Dont to Deserve This? You can also check out his recent work with Penelope Cruz - Volver and Broken Embraces - it's less pop-arty, less surreal and more polished, but decent nonetheless.

I saw only a remake with Robin Williams. Nevertheless it's a good movie.:browsmiley:,

I just added the 99 remake with Robin W to my Netflix Q. Can't wait to see it. :)

Original Sin is a 2001 movie starring Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas. Contains explicit sex including sadistic acts as Thomas Jane cuts Jolie's back with a knife as part of their lovemaking. This is not a love story - it's a story about love. Great movie. (Only the 'Great movie' part of the review is mine.)

Finally got to see this one. Really well-made, with an intriguing storyline. I typically love movies based on reality, and this is no exception. Kept me at the edge of my seat for the whole two hours.
