That's one of my favourite movies from last year, both of the main characters were amazing in their roles. Although i haven't seen Wolf, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and Dallas Buyers Club yet.

Can you watch movies in 720p/1080p on Netflix? It's not available in my country so i wouldn't know. I prefer downloading my stuff anyway, but you just made me curious.

Nebraska - another really good movie - what a superb few months this has been, now I understand why the oscars is so competitive this year. Great to see Bruce Dern again, I remmeber him from some of my favourite 70s cop classics, and my god he is good, but this film also combines being very funny with stunning photography and a great social commentary on the lack of opportunity and decline of small town america. Only thing I didnt like was that I found the ending a little corny, the film didnt need it, but still a great piece of work.

Just finished watching Dallas Buyers Club - All i'm gonna say is that i liked it, the ending was kind of sudden, though. Also shed some light on how the FDA and pharmacy companies like to work. Which isn't any news to me.

Both McConaughey and Leto seemed to have lost a serious amount of weight for their roles. The first one around 25 kilograms (had to google it). I've always wondered what kind of effect does it have on actors' bodies/health who lose that much weight for movies in a short span of time. And regain in rather quickly too.
Christian Bale has done it as well, for the movie "The Machinist" where he pretty much looked like a corpse. And some other actors as well, but none of them cross my mind right now.

They have trainers and strict diets to fully recover, Christian Bale is a perfect example, 3 months after the machinist, he was batman.

Yeah that's what i was thinking too. It takes a lot of determination though and shows how professionally some actors take their job. Especially in Bale's case. And coming back to McConaughey, i think it was one of his finest performances.

Losing like 25 kilograms can't be good either for mental health, i didn't read that article thoroughly, i just wanted to know how much weight McConaughey lost for that role. But it surely included him saying that it was quite draining for him, both mentally and physically.

Of course not, physical issues notwithstanding. I just found it interesting that reversing the losing process is more taxing

It kind of makes sense though, let's say getting from 60kg to 80kg for example. The only reason i brought it up in the first place was that i couldn't even think of living a lifestyle like that. Just because if it's not so difficult, but it sure does have some side effects on the persons' mind/body.

But yet again while you're earning millions for doing it (as an actor) then yeah why not.

Watched American Hustle. It took me about half an hour to get into it, badically when Lawrence and Renner get more involved. In terms of story, it's meh. It's fine, nothing special. Directing was fine, too, some 'eclectic' shots at first, although when the film was most enjoyable there were less of them. In terms of acting it is superb though. Just brilliant from everyone, especjally the women. Bale was great, too. Loved the fact that Louis CK was in it. Good film, could win the acting oscars, but 12 Years a Slave was better overall.

Hoping to see August and Wolf of Wall-Street soon. Unfortunately Llewyn Davis isn't on anymore.

Oscars don't mean anything nowadays. Those kind of things are more corrupt than Ballond'or. And usually the prize goes to the movies that really don't deserve it. I could go on and on about this, but i think i've made my point.

I totally agree that the Oscars are corrupt, so to speak, and that the most deserving candidate doesn't win. That said, they certainly mean something. The financial impact of being able to market your movie with the Oscar nominations or wins is huge.

Yup. But the Cannes movie festivals > the fucking Oscar awards.

Usually when i'm watching some rare movie that starts with the words awards from Cannes. Then it is usually good. I've seen plenty of those.

Watched August today. It was good, too. I actually liked Julia Roberts, which is saying a lot. I dunno if I liked it better or worse than American Hustle, but both are character-driven films and I feel that this one does a better job of making you connect with the characters.
