Watch the first one first. There are definitely worse teen flicks going around.

After the magnificant birdman and the very good Nightcrawler, I saw another excellent movie last night - Whiplash. Absolutely electric, like a thriller even though it is about musicm really dark, really physical, unrelenting and a wonderful ending. The performances from the two central characters are as good as any I have seen this year. The whole film just had a pulse about it, and no-one was really likeable! Again, chyrgy you will hate it, everyone else - I definitely suggest you see it if you get the chancem
Nightcrawler is another one that i'm really looking forward to. Jake Gyllenhaal is usually pretty good at picking decent roles, good actor as well, so i don't see how that could go wrong.

I read the plot description of Whiplash just now, and now this might not be for me. :P Might check it out anyways, it's very often the case that when i don't expect anything from a certain movie, they turn out to be really good.

Oh and i think it was last week, i also checked out Interstellar - it was okay, i'm not saying it was bad or anything, i just think it's pretty overhyped and has received too much praise. There's no way it deserves to be top 13 on IMDb. I'm actually a fan of movies like that (nothing too surreal of course), but i'd say 2001 was way way better, i think i'd even rewatch Moon than this again, but that's just me.

I went to see it with high expectations, after reading good reviews and a few buddies of mine recommending it without having anything bad to say about it. McConaughey was great in it, like he's always been in his recent movies. But i gotta admit this movie couldn't really make me care about the characters in it, which is pretty important for me. Visually it was nice, but you could see that a lot of stuff was inspired by 2001 and even Contact with Jodie Foster.

I'm not a huge fan of Nolan's movies either, Memento and The Prestige were fantastic, Inception was alright i guess. Haven't watched the Batman movies, since i refuse to watch any superhero films. I've heard they are more than your regular superhero movies (like Spiderman or whatever), but i just cannot watch movies like that. I think i watched about 15-20 minutes of Batman Begins when it was on TV, but turned it off pretty quickly, because the whole idea of some guy walking around in a bat costume is just not for me. Couldn't take it seriously.

Yeah I am presently in the unfortunate situation of being with a girl at the same time a hunger games movie is released, and therefore I am going to have to see it. Any tips for how to survive the ordeal?

I watched the first movie to supposedly understand Mockingjay, and it was supposed to be one of the better movies. But I fucking hated it. The premise is stupid, the characters are Twilight-esque and the story just doesn't draw you in. They have decent actors but overall couldn't keep me entertained. I'm gonna suffer through that shitty movie as I already gave my word. Ugh.

Yeah I'm hoping to deflect long enough that she just goes with someone else.

Anyway, I finally saw Interstellar. Yeah, it's good. It's an ambitious movie, an impressive achievement, brave and, unlike many bold attempts at bringing philosophical premises to sci fi, it doesnt really disappoint, the ideas never seem to become too ludicrous. The characters are good, and you dont notice the tokenism (the black guy, the woman) because these characters are not one dimensional. It doesnt drag. I would actually say a lot more about this movie but I cant do so without ruining key points, so I'm gonna give y'all a week or so to watch it, then it is fair game. It's not 2001, but I am so impressed that someone had the guts to try to make another 2001 and that the result was as good as this is.

EDIT: And this is coming from someone who is not nearly as enthralled by Nolan as most people.

Lucy - I'm pretty sure we already use 100% of our brain capacity. So the whole concept of the movie is absurd. But I enjoyed parts of it. Specially Morgan Freeman doing his thing.

I saw it as well. i expected it to be some utter shite. But it was okay to watch.

What disturbed me the most was the subplot with those Koreans, that was over the top and completely unnecessary. But to be honest after getting so much drugs in her system, it seemed like she was going through a proper acid trip. Heavy dose and it could have been that she imagined the whole thing. I wouldn't be surprised. Complete ego death in the end.

Although i doubt that the director was aiming at something like this, it makes sense, but all in all in was just turn your brain off and watch it movie.

Errr... Yeah you're right, couldn't really remember the location where it first took place when i posted this heh.

And also Scarlett is racist in that movie! Shoots an innocent taxi driver (?) because he didn't speak English.

That's not racism. It's intolerance, yes, but not specifically racism.

I thought it was a terrible movie, mainly because of the basis - ie. Not so much that we only use a certain percentage of our brain (which may or may not be true, there are different schools of thought), but that if we "unlock" more of it we can control the world around us. What a load of crap. Why would unlocking parts of the brain give us control of anything external to our body. Such a weak weak nonsensical plot line.

I thought Scarlett and Morgan were better than this.

Watched it last night, nothing special. Agreed with this:

Freeman was clearly collecting a paycheck, it seemed. And I can't really objectively say if Scarlett is a good or bad actress.

Also, watched Hunger Games. I'm curious to see the last one because I've seen the all of them, there's a couple of things I don't like about the general story but overall there not absolute shit and can be entertaining.

Watch "Lost In Translation" and "A Love Song for Bobby Long"! Both quality movies. She's in both of them and does a pretty good job. Both of them are earlier though, 2003 and 2004 respectively.

I watched "I Origins" - It was not bad, not great either, but pretty good i'd say.

Also "The Legend of Shorty (El Chapo)" - There was no real story, it seemed like some random clips were put together. I didn't see the last 30 minutes though because i passed out i think. Not recommended!

I had sex in front of Fellini's Eight and A Half - a strange experience to keep glancing at surrealist black and white Italian surrealist imagery whenever I raised me head.
