I thought House of Flying Dagger's plot was very good, stronger than Hero's. Hero is certainly the visual spectacular of the two, and I prefered it, bit HOFD was possibly the more enjoyable, true there were a helleva lot of plot twists but I liked that in this film as it seemed necessary for it to be complex.

I think Hero definitely had a better cinematography but House of Flying Daggers had a better story and tops the two IMO.

I finished watching Alfie, Jude Law's version, and I know I was disappointed when I saw it last year but I knew that after repeated viewings I would grow to love and indeed I did.
There's so much more behind Alfie and the playboy image and Jude Law being so overexposed last year with so many movies, that when I watch it now, I dont see any of that, but I see the drama behind every scene and how well it works.
this is easily one of those movies I can watch every now and then and never get bored by it (Y)

I didnt bother with Alfie as it looked really poor - I think Jude Law's really damaged his rep by doing such a massive volume of films in the past year - I liked him a bit before but nothing he has done recently looks particularly good or to my tastes.

yeah Jude Law had a bad year

He was completely vulgar near Clive Owen in Closer and Alfie and Sky Captain were crap though the last one was original at least.

I actually loved all the movies he did. Sky Captain, Alfie, Huckabees and Closer. His parts in The Aviator and Lemony Snickett were too small to nothing.

I didnt see any of the big ones, but lots of my friends have. Sky Captain was apparently alright, Huckabees and Alfie are supposed to have been mediocre/poor and in Closer he is apparently completely upstaged.

I thought his performance in Closer was excellent but yeah, Clive Owen was better though he was in advantage because its like his first big role and since Jude was in so many movies everybody was tired of him despite whatever performance he gave.

and thats how it pretty much went cause everybody was tired of him even before the first movie even opened, and most people didn't even see his movies anyway since Huckabees and Closer had a limited release and Alfie and Sky Captain were theatrical failures.

also, I like how many of the big critics here in the US almost apologizing to Jude now that the movies are coming out on DVD, saying the same Im saying (and going against Chris Rock), that his movies got mixed reviews and he got bad publicity because he was overexposed but that he actually is a terrific actor (Y)

I suppose so, I used to like him alot as a character actor, like in Road to Perdition and Talented Mr Ripley, but I dont like him much as a main man.

I would say Clive Owen was at as much of a disadvantage as him, having seriously blown his first major role in King Arthur he must have had alot more pressure and alot of prejudgement.

But to do 6 films in one year means you cant put you're all into each one, and in my opinion anyone who does so is a sell out.

of course Clive Owen was in disadvantage. He was a supporting actor for starters. Yet he lit up the whole movie.

Hakeem

Superman
but the movie was about the 4 characters, he was just supporting because he's less known and Jude is more. like Jamie Foxx in Collateral, totally a starring performance.

and I dont think Sir_Didier_Drogba's king arthur idea is valid cause he did both movies probably at the same time. and in fact, Clive Owen played the role of Jude Law in the Closer play in London for years. how's that for advantage :p

finally saw 'City of God'.

A good movie, but not as good as people here hyped it up to be. Not bashing it or anything, but i was expecting something comparable to The Godfather from all the praise it gets around here.

Maybe i have to be South American to enjoy it more

Saw "The Incredibles" and "Ice Age" couple of days ago, and they impressed me. Nice and funny movies:)

Also saw "Braindead", it's sick!!!:| . Can't believe Peter Carlos*son was picked out to make Lord of the Rings after seeing Braindead. :S

I really didnt get that either? Isn't the total gross of his films not including LOTR something around only £2m? I am amazed Spielburg or Lucas or someone wasnt asked.
