Comedy :D

Watched Click, despite hating Adam Sandler with a fiery passion, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be actually, and, dare i say it, quite sad at times.

Also watched Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead back-to-back the other night, still prefer the latter ever so slightly.

What's your problem with Adam Sandler

Anyway, yeah, I didn't expect that movie to be anything like it was. They actually did a good job hiding the real story out of the previews, a doing which rarely happens anymore.

Little Nicky is my reason Alex, don't ask me why.

Oh and spot on, i thought it was tosh from what i saw, never bothered reading reviews or anything, so you can imagine my surprise. Good stuff surprisingly.

Little Nicky wasn't his best work, true, but come on man Adam Sandler is hilarious.

True Alex, the odd good film (H)

Saw IV
Good film, enjoyed the first two (not seen the third). I don't know, for all the Saw series' are so incredibly formulaic there is something catchy about them that endears the films that little bit more than others. I think the inventivness of the traps and the human binds the script puts on the film might be the reason. Either way, another good laugh (Y)

Old School
Meh. I was expecting too much i think. One of those films that somehow passed me by like a ship in the night at the cinema. Will Ferrell isn't at his best, Vince Vaughn plays the single most annoying character ever and only Luke Wilson and some ace cameos manage to rescue it. After seeing the more recent Superbad and Knocked Up (essentially along the same lines of comedy), it's hard to find Old School simply not that funny. Ok, but not on the same level as some of the other 'Rat Pack' comedies of recent years.

Cruel Intentions
Probably seen Cruel Intentions four times, once for the lesbian kiss and the other three times just to watch it, i like it. Cruel Intentions is just one of those weird films which seems to be in a genre all of it's own, it's a black comedy romance with heavy dashings of drama put over a script that could have been lifted from Shakespeare. Good, very good at points, but still leaves you wondering if there is anyone normal or sane in the world. Either way, mesmerizing debut performance from Ryan Phillippe (who has never equalled it again) and decent support from Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese "The Chin" Witherspoon. If you havent seen it, i advise you watch it, just to open your eyes to a brand new, one-film self-enclosed genre.

Superman
But Tom, Old School was one of the first big ones for Will Ferrell and same for Vince Vaughn. I still think is one of the funniest comedies ever and though Will Ferrell had Anchorman after that which I think is a funnier performance, for Vince Vaughn that was probably his second best comedic role to date (after Swingers). His work in Dodgeball was pretty good but not as good as in Old School IMO.

And I agree about Cruel Intentions. excellent movie and it has repeated viewings value (Y)

I know I know, Old School I think is 2003, which would make it one of the first ones from the group, but i don't think it's a patch on any of the later work, i was really expecting a lot and it disapointed me.

Like i say, i think it's because i was comparing it to the 'new rat pack' of the Superbad and Knocked Up generation, which for me have moved that kind of teen/slapstick/gross-out comedy onto a whole new level.

Just don't agree with the guys in it, i thought Will Ferrell was amazing in Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory and even his cameo in Wedding Crashes, but in this, despite the odd bit of genius (the running naked seen) he was disapointing.

I just flat disagree with Vaughn, thought he was awful.

Cruel Intentions would be on my list of "movies you should really see"

Oh come on man, this movie is truly awful. Rediculously over the top, totally betrays the book, just a massive Kenneth Branagh vanity trip. I cant fault De Niro, though he's no Boris Karloff, but everything else about it is just dreadful, culminating in the rediculous over expansion of Helena Bonham Carter's part just because Branagh happened to be ******* her at the time. I cant believe you liked this pigswil, but dont expect the book to be anything like it.

It's the first Frankestein movie I saw and maybe I'll change my mind when I read a book. I borrowed it today but didn't start read. I'm finishing reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. :p

Cool, you may not enjoy the book actually, I didnt really, it's quite a tough read and not very well written, especially if you get one of the earlier editions. Also didnt help that I had to study it which turns me off any book.
