My son is a goalie too and he loves facing PKs because the keeper is in a 'no lose' situation where no one expects you to make the save but you can be the big hero if you do. He just picks his spot in advance rather than trying to react to the kick and has a couple of truly spectacular saves to his name, including one from three seasons or so ago that still gets talked about whenever a penalty is awarded.

That's absolutely the only thing you can do... Guess away. In College I was the backup and still faced two PK's. Guessed the right way on both, got my hands on both and didn't make the save. So guessing right is only half the game... Still gotta put enough behind it to keep it out.

Moving on -- I'm back to the second smallest and 6th strongest Confederation in the World. the Oceanic Football Confederation. I have a special place in my national team crazy heart for Oceanic football... I feel sorry for the teams that must deal with 20+ goal losses at the hands of the relatively Mighty All-Whites. But 3 days later these teams will often host American Samoa and return the favor.

These tiny island nations may not be expected to do much on the world stage, or anything for that matter. They love their sport, They play to win, they take their licks and they come right back for more. You rarely see an Oceanic team bowing out of a tournament... They want their players out there learning the game at the highest level possible. Hell, New Caledonia participated in qualifying before it was even a member. Other nations have been members for years and not played a single game (Comoros until recently, though probably due to unique financial issues).

My point is, you're looking at the bottom of the totem pole. You're looking at teams that would easily set record breaking goals conceeded records if they left their confederation. You're looking at teams that could probably be beaten by amatuer clubs. Yet they continue to show up, and get better. They develope their players, coaches, facilities, domestic leagues. And they keep plugging away when it would be so easy to thrown in the towel, save the money and not even worry about it.

Oceanic Football is getting better on a daily basis. 20-0 results are becomming 16-1... 16-1 turns to 8-1... 8-1 turns for 5-4... The gaps are being filled in and the region will offer us a surpise that will completely knock us on our ass. Who will it be?

Vanuatu -- with kits by Curswine.

Tahiti -- Fantasy Kits by Liioadin

My trial matches however were:

Vanuatu 2-2 Tahiti
Tahiti 0-5 Argentina
Argentina 11-0 Tahiti

It's fun winning 11-0 =-)

I made a small mistake and made the Chilean National Team instead of Peru.

I will release Peru as a part of the next National Team Pack.

I was rather generous with the Chilean attributes... I incorporated a lot of youth players into the lineup so realism may be actuallized slightly further down the line.

If you think this Chilean team is either too good, or not very accurately rostered, I would understand your point entirely. I think very highly of these players however and feel that with a little luck Chile could finish top 3 in World Cup Qualifying in 2010 above Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Colombia... This is oppinion of course. But the game is very easily edited so If you don't like what i've done with it, you may have your way with the rosters, and the kits (i used ViperBR's Brooks kit, I know they aren't using it currently due to their dispute with the company, but I expect they will resign with brookes... If they don't we'll patch in the new kits when they are made).

Chile-- With kits by ViperBR

With the release of Chile, the 3rd National Team Pack is now complete. Taking 16 days, going back to page 6 of this thread, all 18 teams are complete and it's time to begin the 4th pack.

Third National Team Pack

My Created Teams Count: 64
Total Teams Available: 105

Total teams count doesn't include teams made by other users... Malta and Venezuela at least are available on our forum. However this puts me right at about halfway. I plan on getting out all member nations (207 or so), plus some non-FIFA members (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Gibralter, Kiribati, Reunion, Zanzibar). I'm just about half way through my goal. It is absoutely agonizing to think about how many teams are left... Considering to get to 105 I basically was spotted 41 teams by EA. But I'm confident I won't loose my mind before finishing the task. There are a lot of exciting teams left in the world and I cannot wait to put them on the pitch.

I've got my warm bottle of wine next to me, I'm drinking to the beginning of the next pack. Then I'm gonna go watch spiderman.

Enjoy guys.

You guys should have fun with these...

CONCACAF and CONMEBOL All-Star Teams

I tried to try to add players from lesser nations when they were close on ability to those of the giants. For instance, neither Bobby Convey or DaMarcus Beasley made the squad at LM for CONCACAF. Instead Centeno from Costa Rica, and Gardner from Jamaica are in, though they are very very slightly lower in terms of overall attributes.

--------------------------------Howard (USA)--------------------

---Cherundolo (USA) -- Osorio (MEX) -- Marquez (MEX) -- A. John (TRI)

-------------------------------- Birchall (TRI) ------------------------

----Pardo (MEX) -------------------------------------------Gardner (JAM)

-------------------------------- Donovan (USA) ------------------------

---------------------- Ruiz (GUA) -------------- Borgetti (MEX) ----------

CONMEBOL:

---------------------Dida (BRA) --------------

--- Alex (BRA) ------ Ayala (ARG) ---- Heinze (ARG)

Mascherano (ARG) -- Riquelme (ARG) -- Ronaldinho (BRA) -- Cambiasso (ARG)

------- Adriano (BRA) ---- Messi (ARG) ------- Robinho (BRA)

I'll let you skim through the reserves... Colombia is not found on this team.

Concacaf includes players from Grenada, Canada (Onstad), Honduras, and several others.

My trial match ended 8-1 in favor of CONMEBOL with Messi scoring 5 in the first half. Crespo scored two late in the match. Borgetti was the North American goalscorer.

EDIT -- the CONMEBOL kits are made by Slowhand by the way. CONCACAF by me (i don't like em either).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Addition... i'm not gonna show the lineup for these two cause i'm sure you'll edit it to your liking but here is CAF and UEFA... all kits done by me and they are BLOODY AWEFUL! Though I like the collage of flags on the front of the CAF kits. They are just painfully too colorful =-).

Hope you guys enjoy.

I am going to be taking a break for a short time. I have nearly finished Equitorial Guinea and Gabon and will probably finish and release them in a few days but beyond that I will be pretty busy for a while.

I will try to come back in full force in a few weeks but it may take longer.

I'm certainly not giving up... I still intend to release every national team and work on youth teams... and possibly eventually historical teams but for now I'll have to take a little time off.

Here's a pretty good article, by the way, about Equitorial Guinea's recent success... I am attempting to include some of the players mentioned in the article... Bodipo was already on the side.

I'm attempting to make all 208 or so teams one at a time. Making 200+ teams is an incredible undertaking... While working and trying to train my new dog, and still have a family plus avoiding making this an obsession... I can normally get about 1 team out every day... for a while it will take me probably 2 days per team seeing as I will only have an hour to work on them for some time.

What can you do to help? well there are a couple of things that would help a lot. Every team that's made takes quite some time because of the amount of work I'm putting into making the rosters believable... I've already determined what the attribute levels will be for all teams... and I could send you a list of what those levels would be... If you were interested in helping with this aspect of the team making I assure you it would be quite tedious and boring and you would need some really good new music to listen to or something.

Essentially, when I create the team i set their names then go to the rosters section and add 7 players to the 16 that are intially created giving a total of 23, these players need to be broken down into a 3rd goalkeeper, 2 center backs, 2 center mids, 2 strikers.. over positions out to the left and right are fine as well obviously.. Then I "randomize" the player information so that not all players are born in 1980... this gives them different hieghts, weights and body sizes.

After I've randomized that info for all the players I go back and see which players were given a BIG or VERY big body type... I try to set all of these back to normal because in game players that have this body type typically just look overweight rather than muscular and I think it takes away from the realism.

After that I randomize all of their faces... If they are asian I give them asian looking faces... Middle eastern or NorthEast African typically are white with dark beards... Northern African typically look european in the traditional sense... I try to give a latin American look to central and south american teams (except maybe brazil). Caribbean, Oceanic, and African teams typically have the darker skin tones and darker hair. Scandinavian teams and Iceland would have very light skin tones and probably blond or sometimes red hair.

So you get the idea there... go through one by one and make the players look like they belong to their nationality.

After that... I normally click over to the attributes tab and go player by player and try to get them close to their required attributes... For instance, Ethiopia had players with an overall attribute rating of 38-48... I would hit "Below Average" for each then go back and see which ones were above or below these ranges and adjust them.

Then I normally have their mental skills match whatever their normal abilities are... I once created and released Ryan Nelson, his overall abilities were an 88 and his mental skills were in the 30's (cause I had accidentally edited them)... he showed up as a 46 or so in game rather than an 88. Same with Landon Donovan... his mental skills were very low but he was in the mid 80's, he showed up as a 36 in game. So that's the reason that I edit those variables.

Doing just that much takes the bulk of the time when making each of the teams... the kits take a couple minutes to import... The logos take about 5 seconds to make the game logo and maybe two minutes to make the GUI.

if someone wanted to help me by just doing what I mentioned above... I could research the teams better and get them released quicker.

Beyond that, Flags, Kits, MINKITS, adboards, logos, faces stadiums... all of these things help increase the realism when creating these teams and they should not be over looked.

I am always looking for help... I will always accept help. But I do ask that if you sign on to do some work on these that we make sure everything is is very carefully created and released with the highest quality possible. When making them quickly sometimes quality does suffer but the harder we work at it the less work we'll need to do later to repair our mistakes.

This is the 3-6-1 formation. I replaced this formation with the 5-2-2-1 because for some reason I was having trouble creating a brand new formation and deemed 5-2-2-1 as mostly useless... Not too many teams want absolutely no width to their lineup from the midfield forward. Puts quite a strain on your outside backs.

Anyway. The 3-6-1 overloads the midfield leaving you slightly vulnerable if your midfield is breached, and does offer a few problems if you don't have a truely capable lone striker. But it has been used often in the past with varying success (USA @ the '98 World Cup = Huge mistake).

I think this formation lends itself well to the Equitorial Guinean side also linked below. They do have a strong, fast, physical, and technically sound striker in Rodolfo Bodipo, and also have Banjamin Zarandona and Gregorio Ela as attacking midfielders certainly capable of starting or aiding an attack.

I'de download the formation first if you plan to use it.

I also developed a new set of tables to determine the rough strength of each league in the world... Where I ranked each premier league in the relative countries and set a range of 20 possible overall rankings for players which are a member of that league. Then, the division below that premier league would begin 21 points lower.

For instance, The EPL is 99-79... The championship would have players from 78-58. League 1 would be 57-37. League two even lower. It's not a full proof method but it should be better than previous methods used. I will be using these tables to rank players that I do have club information for from now on. And later I will adopt these values to national teams previously created.

Anyway long story short you may see some slightly stronger sides coming out now and it may require some adjusting to get teams previously released on a competitive level with them. But in the long run I think this is a good thing.

Players already in the game, not created by me will retain their current values until I began roster updates.

I am really happy with this team. This is using the players currently in the game while adding players and editing their values based on the tables previously mentioned. The result is a stronger and more competitive team.

There is some concern that keeping the weak teams weak is a good idea and an idea I agreed with strongly for some time. But, I've learned that when I make a team I become a fan, if only for 2 hours while I make them. I want a fan of some random team to be happy with the team i've made for them. I want to identify their stars and honor them in a sense.

Anyway I hope you guys like it. Have fun.

Palestine ... the nation that isn't a nation. The team without a home. They have to draw many players from elsewhere in the world because their domestic players have serious travel restrictions and some permanent bans placed on them by the Israeli's simply because they are footballers. Their home football stadium sits empty with a large crater at midfield where the Israeli's bombed it. To my knowledge Palestine doesn't exist officially anywhere, with the exception of international sports. So regardless of their strength or the likelyhood they will reach the World Cup Finals... It's still good to applaud their efforts and deep desire to represent their nation that doesn't quite exist.
