last season his excuse for wanting to leave was that he wouldnt get the trohpys he desired... well.... charity shield ( ), couple of league cup, f.a cup, uefa cup, super cup & champions league medals arent to be sniffed at! its clearly all about money which disgusts me in this case cause its not as if liverpool just offered him about a fiver a week.

I' m not entirely convinced about Aimar...and I don' t know if he can truly fit into the EPL system but only time will tell. As for Gerrard, well he wanted the money..nothing else to it.

Les Lawson of the Liverpool International Supporter' s Association:

'He's lifted the European Cup, but it is definitely tainted. It would be saved a bit if he went abroad to Real Madrid but if he goes to another Premiership club, he'll definitely be tainted,' Lawson told the Press Association.

'No one player is bigger than Liverpool Football Club. If winning the European Cup is not competing at the highest level, and winning winning major trophies, I don't know what is.

'He has turned down £100,000 a week; I'm still paying off my credit card bill and thousands of Liverpool supporters are the same from going to Istanbul to cheer him on and he is turning down £100,000 per week to play for the team that he is supposed to have supported since he was a kid.

'He is supposed to be a boyhood Red. As far as I'm concerned he's not. If he wants to leave Liverpool, last season they were after him three times to sign a new contract and he was saying `wait, wait'.

'He's won every major honour with Liverpool except the Premier League title, which is not bad going for a team that can't compete at the highest level,' Lawson said.

Asked why Gerrard might want to leave so badly, Lawson was at a loss to answer.

'Who knows why? Obviously he's going to get more money at other clubs than Liverpool but I just think he thinks he is bigger than Liverpool FC. I'd just like to tell him he's not. He's a fantastic footballer, don't get me wrong, but he's not bigger than the club. Nobody is.

'Where is the loyalty? I don't want any player who does not want to play for us. If he wants to go, then go. But I'm very sad because he is a class player.'

Lawson insisted the club were not to blame for the current situation and believes agents have played a significant role in his decision to move on.

'What have Liverpool done wrong? Liverpool asked him to stay three times and he said wait. After the Champions League final he said he wanted to stay, Liverpool wanted to keep him, so what was the problem? Obviously he's been looking for an excuse to get out.

'He is going, but he is not going with his head held high.

'The ball is in Liverpool's court. I wouldn't sell him for less than £40million. If Chelsea come in I'd ask them for £40million plus William Gallas and Damien Duff. That's what I'd look for. With the money, I'd go out and buy Shaun Wright-Phillips, Michael Ballack and maybe Ruben Baraja. You are not going to replace him with one player.

'It's a very sad day for Liverpool Football Club. I feel bitterly disappointed that he has decided to do this. I just hope Jamie Carragher, who is a player who deserves to wear the red shirt, is given the captaincy.'

Couldn' t agree more! What else can the club do? About the only thing that I can think of now is how to scr*w the guy by profitting off of him.....start with an asking price of around 45 mil and DON' T ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS THAN 40 mil.

I guess a lot of Liverpool fans will blame Gerrard for this and up to now ,on radio phone ins ETC,the opinions are all negative.But think on this.....One thing Gerrard was concerned about was the treatment that the English players were getting from Benitez.Gerrard was upset that Liverpool sold Owen.He said at the time that Owen was "persuaded" to leave.Gerrard has seen the club he loves and will always love become Atletico Liverpool.Soon the entire squad will be Spanish.I'm not saying that the players Benitez has bought are poor.No no no...they are good players,but Gerrard can see the English heart of Liverpool being replaced wholemeal with Spanish talent.Rumour has it that even Jamie Carragher is being readied to be sold.Gerrard is not just a proud Liverpool lad ,he is a proud Englishman and i can understand his dismay at seeing his club transformed in this way.He was waiting to see who Liverpool would buy for the new season ,and obviously the guy is dissapointed with what he sees.The money dont come into it,£90,000 a week or £100.000 a week.The difference of £10,000 a week aint going to be the sticking point that the club say it is.I think Gerrard is sick with the clubs attitude and thats it.Typical football "fans" though.....just like the Cole saga.....the "fans "turn their anger on the individual and not the club.....oh no never the glorious club.....wait for the full story to emerge before condemning the bloke....for what Gerrard has given Liverpool ,the "fans " owe him that much at least :)


I read your posts and i think that some of your comments as regards Gerrard are fickle and pathetic......you talk about lack of loyalty fron Stevie but you lot are willing to flog him so you can import another foreign player or two....why the hell does he want to play for you when you are so quick to condemn him and piss all over him.....I remember the dreadful treatment he recieved from so called "scousers" last year too.......and i bet he aint forgot either....so look to yourselves as well for a reason he might not want to stay.....

But Pede, Not everybody has Chelsea's transfer budget and can afford to buy English players, Who are always way way overpriced..Rafa HAS said he wants English players, we just cant afford the good ones...So should we go Bankrupt just to please Steven Gerrard? I dont think so..

No one player is bigger than the club, And Gerrard thinks he is.. I hope he does well where ever he goes and i wish him all the luck in the world..But i for one am glad its all going to be over, Lets all move on with our lives

No pede, he has treated us like sh*t. For the past 2 seasons he has always brought this cloud over us, whether he is staying, whether he is going, whatever.

Last season was just as bad as this, I'm relieved that I won't have to read in the news anymore speculation about him. The speculation IS NOT good for the team! Especially the comment he made before the final, about how there is a direct effect that this match will have on his future, the players don't need to know that.

I mean, if I played for Liverpool, the team i've supported since I was born, and got offered 100,000 pounds a week to play for them, hell yes I would stay, no doubts about it. He has one more trophy to win at club level at this club. His loss, we'll win it.

Jimbob....i'm sure he's not glad its over....i'm sure he is sick about it,and i dont think he sees himself as someone who's bigger than the club either.You know Gerrard man,he just aint made that way.So its got to be other factors that have brought the situation to this sad end.Of course i dont want Liverpool to go to the wall,but its Parry and Moores who have done this to you and not Gerrard.They control the club and its finances so maybe you should be asking,why they have allowed Liverpool to get neck deep in financial s.h.i.t. creek.You know me man....i have always shown great respect to Liverpool,they have earned it over a long period of time.But look to the money men if you need a scapegoat for the mess that Liverpool might be in,and not just one solitary player. :ewan:

After the 0-0 in Stamford Bridge you criticized him as if he was who had to get a better result. Then Liverpool beat Chelsea and went to the final. In the final you couldn't resist it again: 3-0, great moment to make another speech against Benitez. Then they won the CL.

If anyone can beat Mourinho as the best coach in the world, that's Benítez. I guess that's why you don't like him and you don't stop blaming him for everything.



I also think that Benítez should stop buying spanish players but I don't think Gerrard is leaving Liverpool cause of Benítez or the Spanish players. When Gerrard or Owen say that they're gonna leave if Liverpool don't win titles and make big signings, they're announcing their departure, because they know that Liverpool can't spend the millions that they'd need to bring the best players. However Liverpool won the biggest honour in Europe and he still wants to leave. Obviously he never thought about renewing the contract and I think he was planning his departure before Benítez arrived.
