NO why ? His graphics card is supported so he should be able to play with names and number.

Man i get so mad , when you buy a game and then you see no names and number WTF ? OF COURSE YOU GET MAD EA **** YOU!!!

soz but you dont seem 2 really care that we have a problem with our game, you are just sticking up 4 EA and suggesting that they dont make a patch

i sent customer support an email asking if EA are planning to release a patch and they didnt even answer the question, they just said about updating your drivers and stuff like that! erm dont you think ive already tried that DUH!!

how do i get these pics to stay at the bottom without having to attach them on every post

Of course you're totally wrong. In the technical support article related to the names and numbers problem - https://eauk.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eauk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=786 (i seriously doubt if you have read it) - there you can find full listing of graphic cards that should support names and numbers on the backs. This list includes both "recommended" and "supported" cards.

names and numbers is a very basic function and doesn't require "recommended" card. "supported" is enough. The problem is a bug of the game and EA should fix it with a patch.

Is this enough for you, Mr. Clever ????
This discussion with the baby marcus really makes me tired :(

Check on 4 things:

1: Is your video card supporter?

2: Do you have the latest drivers?

3: Did you set it on full acceleration?

4: Did you set game details to high?

That's what the EA site says... My copy of Fifa2003 works excellent.. I have a GeForce2MX

Lukas is right !!! what the matter with a so simple function !?!? to show 2D letters and number on simple texture... no TWL or other news function are required. Even my old Intel486 with a Cirrus graphic's card can do it.

my ATI all in wonder 128 pro support easily the number on back with Fifa97, Fifa98, Fifa99, Fifa2000, Fifa2001, Fifa2002 but not Fifa2003... why ? because they are the name with know ? and a four letters name need TWL lighting function with 128 MB of power ? or because I'm a ****ing consumer with many money to throw out by the windows ?
I think the last answer is the most realistic one.

my card is supported by Fifa2003 and the name&number's bug must be resolved because it's a major bug wich can be surely easily corrected by Ea's coders.

Whith guys like Marcus, may be soon Microsoft Word 2003 will need a Pixel shader & TWL compatible graphic card with a 2GHz computer because an new color font will be added.

Look, it isnt a driver problem, it is as simple as this.
Numbers and names use a Graphics Function known as Texture and Lighting (T&L).
T&L is only on newer video cards (the ones EA put as recommended ;)), and to emulate T&L, would use heaps of processing power, meaning that the game would be slowed HEAPS (like it was on computers in the first demo, that didnt support T&L).

Because EA's only option for a fix, without having to rewrite ABSOLUTLEY HUGE portions of the graphics code, would be to put in emulation code for T&L. As I said, this would mean MASSIVE slow down, and even then could cause problems such as the rainbow light we saw in the first demo.
