Chelsea defender John Terry has revealed Manchester United tried to sign him before he made the move to Stamford Bridge.
Terry was invited by Sir Alex Ferguson as a 14-year-old to train with United's squad alongside David Beckham.
But while Beckham was persuaded to make the move north, his England team-mate opted against it.
"I was a United fan at the time and had the chance to go up there," said Terry.
Terry initially met up with United's squad ahead of a Premiership game in London.
"United were in London to play West Ham and they invited me to go for lunch before the game," he recalled.
"I was there at the dinner table with Paul Ince and Eric Cantona. I had my beans on toast in front of me and was too scared to eat it."

After a week-long trial in Manchester, Terry decided to keep his focus on the capital, which eventually led to him joining Chelsea.
He added: "I definitely made the right decision to come to Chelsea. I felt they would look after me straight away.
"It's a family club here and they made me feel welcome."
Terry's revelation comes ahead of Sunday's crucial Premiership tie between the two sides at Stamford Bridge.
And the England defender's focus has solely been on United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy long before kick-off.
"I think about van Nistelrooy all season," said Terry.
"Maybe Ruud van Nistelrooy's all-round game makes him the hardest opponent I have to face in the Premiership.

While I'm glad that Fox sports world exists I feel cheated again that they are not showing Chelsea and Man U. They are showing it friday but wtf good will that do? I don't understand why they aren't showing ine of the biggest matches of the year.

The match will be shown on Pay Per View. That's what they usually do with the big matches. I'm paying for it, though. Can't miss this one.
