I think they underestimated Bayern after that early goal, and it's a big mistake to underestimate a team like Bayern.

Yeah that's what happened. We don't know if Man U were expecting to play defensively from the outset because they scored on like their 4th touch of the game, but they definitely sat back after the goal. For most of the game they looked perfectly content with playing kick and rush and hoping for another mistake from our defense. To be fair, that's not a terrible strategy against Bayern right now if you have Rooney because the defense is incredibly shaky and injured. But it gave us possession, which you really shouldn't do against a great Dutch coach, and eventually the possession turned into goals. Man U were perhaps unlucky not to get a 2nd, but we were unlucky not to get on the score sheet earlier too.

Did you guys watch the Bordeaux/Lyon game?

Gourcuff set up Bordeaux's goal superbly. I hope we buy him this summer.

While we're at it, we should also sign Chamakh, he would be a great 2nd or 3rd choice as a striker...he's a little older (26) but his contract is up with Bordeaux so it would be a free transfer, and definitely worth it.

Help?

That was probably the worst performance of the season. We looked so disinterested. Evra was just **** the whole game and the midfield was nowhere to be seen. Nani had nothing on the flank either, as Ribery pretty much had the whole wing covered. Only Rooney was the only one trying, but if he wasn't enough today. Not as gutted about the result as I am about the performance. This truly sucked and what's worse is that Chelsea had the whole week to prepare for us, while we will probably still be thinking about Munich come Saturday.

To be honest, Bayern is like the old Prussia army, they have a great calgary that can attack from flanks. But like British army we have the advantage in terms of experience and inspiration. Sir Alex Ferguson can get the best out of his red soldiers just like Lord Nelson and Duke Wellington.

It's war baby.

Damn, youre dumb. First, its no war, its a game, idiot. Second, prussian army wasnt famous for the cavalry (i suppose thats what your calgary means) but for the discipline, numbnuts.

Bit of a dodgy performance, but not the worst result in the world with the away goal. Annoying that we gave away such a shambolic goal so late on, but more concerned about Rooney naturally. Makes the Chelsea game that much tougher, although its still not out of reach for us. All we need do against Bayern is score once without reply at home and I think even without Rooney we are capable of doing that. Having said that, Bayern have shown last night that they aren't to be underestimated. If Robben is fit then it will get a bit more tricky.

Rooney is 4 weeks out. We are left with 1 experienced striker now: Berbatov. If he gets injured then we'll play some reserve players. Awesome.

Thanks god its only a sprained ankle though and not a fracture.

Assuming that's correct, and I don't want to say it is because I don't want to get my hopes up, you will be without Rooney for Chelsea home, Blackburn away, City away, Tottenham home and Sunderland away matches, more or less. All of which are potentially tough matches. You've also got the next Bayern match.

We are screwed

I knew this was going to happen, he was playing too good, it was only a matter of time before the universe ****ed us and injured Rooney.

We will surely lose to Chelsea now, there goes the league. And it'll be a miracle if we can score against Bayern without him, there goes CL.

And this is why I ******* said we needed more strikers last summer.

We get Owen, who everyone in the world knew would get injured at some point...so then we're down to 2 strikers...now Rooney gets injured and we're down to relying on one striker who is only a mild scoring threat to get us through the most important part of the season.

How is it that I'm just a stupid fan from America and I was able to see all along what was going to be a huge problem for us and SAF who is supposed to be some kind of footballing god could not see the huge problem that we were lining ourselves up for.

4 weeks is just speculation from the press, the club hasn't confirmed it.... jeez......don't be such a drama queen, we can cope well without him, we have enough quality players to fill up his spot, we have never done things the easy way.....

I was about to say its not all doom and gloom. Lucky for us its just one player. The team pretty much ok everywhere else.

Even in the attacking department we have that guy Berbatov who isn't too shabby. Admittedly he's no Rooney, but we have played with Giggs up front before and Won.

It could be worse. If anything this is berbs chance to shine. He hasn't exactly been given many chances with the form Rooney has been in. Scored 2 the other day, Giggs in support or maybe even that diouf. We could still win vs Chelsea and Bayern. Even more impressive if we do. We struggled so much all season with injuries and managed to fight on through, we were even written off at one point. Now look at us, top of the table fighting for the prem.

We can still win. We will win.

Well atleast we aren't pessimistic.....I hope all this talk of us being nothing without Rooney goes on and on, that will get our boys all fired up....Rooney was in excellent form no doubt about that, but we defeated Bolton scoring 4 goals in the process WITHOUT him...and guess who stepped up that day....Berbs and Nani, some of you seems to forget that, we have had injuries all over the place all season long and this ain't different, we are top of the league atm and we will show why we are the champs

NEMANJA VIDIC has called on Dimitar Berbatov to answer Manchester United's SOS call.
Star striker Wayne Rooney suffered an ankle injury in last night's 2-1 European defeat to Bayern Munich and looks likely to miss Saturday's crunch Premier League clash with Chelsea.

The second leg of the Champions League quarter-final then follows four days later, with United sweating on the results of a scan on Rooney in the next 24 hours.

But even if the England striker misses those key games, defender Vidic is convinced his side already possess a player who can fill his boots.

The Serb said: "We showed this season we play as a team — it is not just about one man.

"Definitely Wayne Rooney has had a great season. He is unbelievable, one of the best in the world.

"But sometimes big players are missing, and others need to be ready.

"Dimitar had a great game against Bolton on Saturday. He is a great footballer.

"He scored twice himself and can set up goals for other players as well.

"We just need to believe in ourselves and believe in each other."

This is what we will end up playing.

.....................Van Der Sar..................

Rafael.......Ferdinand........Vidic........Evra

...............Fletcher.........Scholes............

Valencia................Giggs.................Nani

.........................Berbatov....................

Maybe park where Giggs is, then giggs on the left, with a few options on the bench to mix things up. But I think giggs in support, just because Saf has done that plenty of times in the past.

Our performance was way to lacklustre to say the least, SAF clearly had Chelsea on his mind and his decisions haunted us in the end, it won't be an easy game at home, especially with Robben back in action, but I am quite confident that we will end up as winners, cause the few moments we upped our tempo Bayern got in trouble and we created a couple of good chances

I think some of you are in denial.

Rooney has been the glue holding us together for the past 2 months. If not for him we'd probably be in 4th place right now.

I think we need to go all-out attack against Chelsea and Bayern now. Park in the middle, Valencia on the right, Giggs on the left, Berbs playing up top, hopefully we can find some goals somewhere.

And nothing any of you say can change the fact that we should've brought in another striker last summer. I KNEW this was going to happen, we have injury problems down the stretch every single season.

We need 2 strikers this summer. I want Chamakh and David Villa.

I've always said that April will be crucial for us and seems that Rooney will miss the whole of April. Very unfortunate for us.

Very good point. Didn't think of Giggs as a second striker. We have Scholes also who can play as a second striker. Rooney is a huge loss but I am confident we'll do well without him. Only thing thats worrying me is that we have only 1 experienced strikers now. If he gets injured, we'll have to play Macheda or Diouf. If we had Owen still fit, I wouldn't be worried at all to be honest. I'm only worried that we end up with no striker at all.

Always great to see that the players are confident :D

Without Rooney I guess we'll play with different tactics and I'm confident they'll work. We've won all the games we've played without Rooney this season if I'm not mistaken. e.g 3-1 against Wolfsburg, 4-0 Bolton and 1-0 against Portsmouth I think.
