Rooney has been the glue holding us together for the past 2 months. If not for him we'd probably be in 4th place right now.

I think we need to go all-out attack against Chelsea and Bayern now. Park in the middle, Valencia on the right, Giggs on the left, Berbs playing up top, hopefully we can find some goals somewhere.

And nothing any of you say can change the fact that we should've brought in another striker last summer. I KNEW this was going to happen, we have injury problems down the stretch every single season.

We need 2 strikers this summer. I want Chamakh and David Villa.

Haha and how were you planning to keep them all happy?

Yes thats the reason why Tevez was unsettled last season. There's always gonna be someone who'll be left out from the first team.

I don't need them all happy, I just need them willing to play and work hard.

Tevez wasn't happy but he was still effective when he played.

If we went back to a 4-4-2 we could keep 4 strikers happy. Just set up a rotation, this way they all stay fresh the entire term and limit the possibility of injuries.

If they're not happy, they won't be willing to play and work hard. Isn't it logic?

Yes, 5 goals in 1634 minutes the EPL (equivalent to 5 goals in 18 full 90 minute games). Look at his form for City now. If someone's not focussed on playing for us, they are always gonna under-perform. e.g Ronaldo's form in 2008-2009.

I agree with than but this can cause problems in team chemistry. The 1999 team had 4 great strikers and you could bring any 2 strikers and they'll still be very productive. That's something we've been missing for ages now.

I'm going to start calling you Victor Meldrew :innocent_smile_1:. The point were trying to make is, it inst all over as your insinuating. We still have a fine team, we can still win. And as pointed out we can make do without Rooney, sure its a big blow but we still have a strong chance.

We wont buy anyone over 26 as a main front man, like villa.

Although I agree we need more. The trick is finding 2 players in there prime then finding 2 quality players willing to stay on the bench. We have one in Owen, we could do with another. Some ageing player with bags of experience. Like when we had henrik larsson. Gudjohnsen? Only if we could of got Ruud back. He would of been perfect.

Ronaldo missed the first month of the 08/09 season through injury and still scored 26 goals for us, I'd hardly call that under-performing.

Also, of course Tevez scores more this term, he's the main striker at City. Just because he didn't score many with us doesn't mean he wasn't effective, you can't rate a player based only on the goals he scores, if you wanted to do that you would've had to rate Rooney as almost useless last season and the one before.

SAF needs to stop being a dumbass and realize that just because Villa is 28 that doesn't mean he is worthless.

He is in the top 3 in La Liga scoring every single season, he scores for Spain almost every game he plays, I don't know what else he has to do.

Imagine if we had the same mindset about Giggs, he would've been benched 6 years ago...as it stands he is still one of our most important players.

It's like SAF won't be satisfied until we are just like Arsenal, everyone on the field is only 22...they never win anything, but hey, they're all sound investments!

We've got plenty of young strikers- Macheda, Welbeck, Diouf- but they are all for the future. We need a good striker NOW, not for the future. I want a world-class striker that can do the job for the next 3 or 4 years until the kids are ready to be regulars. David Villa is the perfect man for the job.

Breaking News: United signed David Silva and David Villa from Valencia with 50 million pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should have said at least 80 million pounds to make it sound more realistic.

Anyway, on a positive note, we have just gained the element of surprise against Chelsea. Surely they have been preparing to face Rooney for half the week, now who knows who will play and how.

Just a quick question: how many great teams play 4-4-2? Do you think that's a coincidence?

We played 4-4-2 for a while and it worked for us. Granted Ronaldo would usually play forward a bit on the wing, but it was still basically a 4-4-2.

1 striker is the most a top team can play these days, you need as many guys in the midfield as possible. The 4-4-2 you speak of only worked because Rooney and Tevez were both aggressive and hard working enough that they could essentially provide extra midfielders while still attacking. You weren't suggesting such a thing. To be honest, the 4-6-0 is a better tactic than a true 4-4-2 in the modern game.

I agree with that if its concerning big games. You need a packed midfield to stop them from creating plays from the middle because thats where most plays are made. However, I think 4-4-2 still a role in games that you'd rather go for attack rather than breaking plays i.e against weaker teams. We usually alternate between 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or even 4-3-3 depending on the opponents. In general we've played 4-4-2 in 90% of games in the past 3 title winning years. Worked pretty well.

Uhh, a wild guess would be Berbatov, given how the United camp has urged him to take the mantle/responsibility in Rooney's absence.

I would hint at Neville being replaced by Rafael(Because Ferguson will be wary of Malouda's power and pace on our left-flank) and Park going back to the middle supported by Fletcher. Nani and Valencia on the wings.

Just gutted. Rooney out for arguably the biggest 2 games of the season so far. I have faith in berba but without rooney, we lack that pace and aggression upfront. I m not expecting too much. A draw against chelsea and a 1-0 win against bayern will be fantastic.

Sure it will be Berbatov, but somebody has to step-up and score goals and Berbatov has been playing more like an attacking midfielder lately. With Rooney, you knew that he is the target man and almost every single attack will go through him. I'm not so sure that the players will be so keen to get the ball to Berbatov as fast as they would be with Rooney.

Yes victor, but do you think it has anything to do with SAF. Of course not. They will get older players though... I just don't see it happening for a "main" Striker. Would be nice to have someone like Villa though. You never know, pigs can fly.

There saying Rooneys injury isn't serious. Should be back for the Sunderland game in May. Good news for England as well I guess... A months break before a big competition with a player in the form of his life..

F*ck England - England could give two sh*ts about United. I love my country but knowing half of the fans of England wouldn't p*ss on United if they were on fire - I'm United first and foremost. I've been at Wembley and heard the majority of the crowd sing anti United songs.

Anyway, my fury at the total lack of application against Munich has only just begun to ebb away. We spent the 88 minutes after the goal trying to throw it away.

Ray Parlour was on Sky saying how great for Arsenal, Rooney getting injured was - I think after what happened to Cesc, It's called karma Ray!

Berba has the chance to step up on Saturday, United will be out to prove there's more to us than Wayne Rooney. As for Wolfsburg, we have the away goal, any win at Old Trafford will see us in the semis.

They're saying it's not serious, but he won't be back until May...? You don't consider being sidelined for an entire month serious? I sure do...

We bought Berbs when he was 27, he is 29 right now...Villa is 28, and is ten times the striker and goal-scoring threat that Berbs is.

We spent 30 million on Berbs...say for argument's sake we could get Villa for 40 million this summer, we would be out of our minds insane if we didn't do it.

This is a moot point of course since either Chelsea or Madrid are going to buy him this summer. But I guess I can still dream of being able to buy a United #7 Villa shirt next year.
