What we need is a top striker like Dzeko or someone similar to start with Rooney. And someone to replace Scholesy.

Here's what happens when you have only 3 strikers: one of them gets hurt (Owen) and one of them sucks and can't score goals (Berbs). Then you only have one striker who can score (Rooney) and then when he doesn't play you can't score enough goals to win games (Chelsea game, Blackburn game)
As for replacing Scholes...Gourcuff is the obvious answer.

cfdemarco;2852105 said:I am well aware of Macheda, Welbeck and Diouf, but they are all too young and inexperienced to be trusted as regular players in the senior team. I still consider them for the future, not the present.
I said we need 4 strikers...right now I am counting Rooney and the new Mexican kid. I want Berbs gone and Owen is too much of an injury risk to be trusted so I am not figuring him into my plans at all.
We need to sell Berbs and go after Chamack, and either Villa or Benzema.
Mandieta6;2852152 said:On the new playmaker front, I think that if Chelsea don't renew Cole's contract, Fergie would be a fool not to sign him. Injury-prone or not, he's exactly what you need, and to get him for free would be unbelievable. Hope he renews, though.
Mandieta6;2852152 said:And about Berba, basically, he needs a partner in attack. Playing him alone does him no favours. He prefers to drop back and he's got better vision than most strikers, which is why he needs someone to make runs in front of him so he can give them the pass. Someone like Owen would be the perfect partner for him, really. Thing is, Rooney is given the freedom to move around and he likes to drop deep and support in midfield, get the ball and help in creation. Capello has actually dissuaded him from doing it with the NT. So when Rooney and Berba partner up front, even though Berba will do better than when he's alone, you've basically got 2 strikers dropping back to get the ball, and no one making runs and pushing the defenders back.
Mandieta6;2852152 said:So, if he's to stay, he'll have to have to just change his way of playing. With Rooney being Utd.'s talisman, he and Owen aren't going to partner much, and with Rooney shining this year, Fergie won't be telling him to change his way of playing to accomodate a flop. I'm trying to understand why Fergie actually bought him for that money. He was the same player at Tottenham, partnering with Defoe, Crouch and Keane. Honestly, Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo were his strikers and none of them were the sort Berba plays best with. I think he might've been duped by Berba's high scoring record.
Benzema, Villa, Huntelaar, those are players he could partner with, IMO. Although Villa has become a lot more mobile lately, moving around to create space for Mata, Hernandez, Silva, etc. I'd get Huntelaar, he's not been too good at Milan, but I know he has it in him. Probably won't be keen on going to a 3rd club in 2 years.
If Berba stays, don't expect to see another striker come in.
Payaah;2852250 said:Whether he stays or not United might need to buy someone who can play upfront with or without a partner especially when Rooney get injured (Owen is always injured). He doesnt have to be world class just someone who can play similar to Saha. Though I think if Berbatov does leave its probably safer to go for a world class striker.
As for youngsters over the last few years we seem to send them on loan then sell them. But I hope these guys prove me wrong.
