I hope you guys get Ribery and Tevez, not because of any "good for the EPL"
but imagine a front line with...

That will be the complete antithesis to the "boy band" like United of the '90s when you guys had Giggs (the leader), Becks (the dumb one that the chicks still dig), Neville/Scholes (the talented singers that chicks don't really dig), Yorke (the one who always had some "love" for the fans) and Solskjaer (the baby).
I can really see the chicks screaming out for those three if they are your front line:icon_spin:

He confirmed that news sometime ago now, I guess. I maybe wrong though.

Maybe so, he's been speaking to the press quite a bit recently - seems every time he is asked about Martinez, the questions turn to Valencia too.

Valencia seems a certain signing.
But we need another world class midfielder or else one with good prospects.
We need to sort out the striker/Tevez situation, too.

man, i really hope carlitos stays. i really feel bad for him, and I still feel like berba, though i won't deny his skills, just doesn't fit. he changes our shape and makes other players (like rooney) less effective.
don't know too much about valencia. i'll be interested to see what he's got to bring. and its good to hear that nani is fired up; hopefully he can transfer that to his game and go on a tear next season.

On a positive (it could also be negative) note though nobody knows what to expect from us, considering our play was built around Ronaldo. With him gone that means we have to change our style....

I disagree on the number thing.

7 is your playmaker
9 is your goal scorer
10 is your superstar and the face of your team
I disagree on the number thing :)

10 is a number given to players that play in the hole, mainly a playmaker number (Which tend to be the best on their team), 7 and 11 given manly to wingers and 9 to pure srtiker.

Ronaldo is no playmaker, and Kaka' is no winger, Ribery can wear either.

And to Mikey - changing Rooney's kit number to 7 after Ronaldo leaves would be so idiotic, and besides the 7 really doesn't fit him. He was born to wear the 10 (He's a leader not a individualist, his playmaking is pretty good too), and to me too the 10 looks far more an important number than 7. You'll find a new 7. And also why wouldn't Rooney add some history to the ten at UTD?

I'm expecting several players to step up, I think Ronaldo was too much of the focus of our play. Now players will have the freedom to express themselves. I'm expecting Wayne to benefit enormously in particular. Ronaldo dominated freekicks and penalties - Wayne can score freekicks as he proved on his debut.

Everyone remembers the sublime goals and silky skills Ronaldo performed when his tricks / long shots came off - but we as United fans know that a fair few didn't come off - flicks that would go wayward, freekicks off the wall, shots into the roof, in positions where it would have been better to play simple or pass. Also Ronaldo seemed indifferent if he lost the ball - That used to annoy the hell out of me to be honest, as did the diving and the way he'd stop dead and look at the ref if someone touched him. Am I alone in sometimes believing he was more interested in making himself look good than playing for the cause?

When it worked it was sublime, but when it didn't I know I wasn't alone at screaming at him (usually via the TV) for showboating un-necessarly.

Nani is more direct, he doesn't do 10 stepovers to beat his man and he does track back too - the potential is there for him to step up - He has a good shot on him too.

As for tactics, I'm expecting United to be more cohesive as a team without Ronaldo. Rumours of our demise, are greatly exaggerated.

Rooney is perfect for the 10 shirt. Someone like Ribery or Kaka (or Ronaldo) is a perfect 7...and someone like David Villa or Fernando Torres is a perfect 9.

I would love to see Ribery wearing a United 7 and David Villa wearing a United 9 next season...but there is a slim chance either will happen I think.

wrong.
7 was always the right winger in the classic WM sistem.
------1-------
---2--4---3---
-----5---6----
-----8--10----
-7----------11-
-------9-------

but all we know its a special number in manU.

Yes our playing style will definitely change without Ronaldo. Maybe we'll see more goals from Berbatov and Rooney this coming season. Without Ronaldo I guess they'll have to play in a more advanced position rather than Berbatov playing in an Attacking Midfielder-like position and Rooney on the left flank.

I think we'll do well without Ronaldo. We've got the depth in the team which is a big plus. Fergie has been changing United's game since 23 years with players coming in and some going, so should be the same this time again. We've got the whole of the summer and around 100 million pounds to spend, so should be ok with the correct signings I guess.

Seems you will get Ribery for 75 mill. Euros.

Bayern put £90M price on him - I don't want United to blow all the Ronaldo money on one player in anycase, I'd rather we bought in 2 or three young players which we can make into superstars as we did with Ronaldo.

I hear reports in Madrid that Sneijder and Huntelaar may be sold in the inevitable exodus - I would absolutely be overjoyed if they came to United.

i forgot about that goal 2.40 into the video above. When that happened i thought we got the next cole and yorke combo here. Only if they got more goals like that. They just havent click as well as first thought. His goal scoring records gone down significantly this season. Perhaps with not playing as much? Although i'm sure hes played more then others or just as much.

Its a shame... maybe if he stays and with ronaldo gone we will get the best from the pair? Rooney and tevez scoring in the 20's would be nice.

*edit* actually watching that vid and listening in to comentary... what the hell happened this season. The season before we were scoring goals left right and centre 3.45 there talking about how we scored 4 goals in 3-4 games in a row. Why the hell have we struggled to score so much this season. The only thing i can think thats changed is nani not playing as much, a few injuries.. losing owen and berbs been playing. You would think with the cover we got in midfeild no issues there. Surely it cant be team mechanics with berb? He done more then saha did so you would assume things would be better. Perhaps the team doesnt flow as wel with him playing?

Although its just dawned on me that was rons wonder year. worries me slightly. Lets hope we can pull things back if not this season in 1 or 2.

Havent really mentioned anything about ronaldo leaving, just been watching some of his video clips people have compiled since hes going... he will be missed.

What an exceptional talent, the silky daziling skills, the goals, the assits the screamers from 1 mile out. He was certainly special. An all round talent he can dribble, pass, score, create, air specialist, shoot on both feet, composed for free kicks/pentalties.

I think he's actually better then messi an all round talent. Good luck too him, we got the best years out of him I hope now he moves on and shows the spanish league just how good he is like we have been saying all along. I guess they dont get too see him week in week out, that will change.

I suspect he will never achieve again what he did 'that' season but i hope he goes over there and shows them what hes all about. He gave us a good 6 years. Not a servant but hes done his time and helped us along the way.

It will be hard to replace the lad but as always with united, stars come and go but we always come back to winning form. I just hope its sooner rather then later. We had a 3 year recession when beckham left us, granted Mr abramovich showed up and added to the problem.

We lost other stars before and came back to winning form a lot faster... according to fergison and others the current squad is argubly the best we have ever had... lets hope we got all the talent needed to continue our success.

come on united!!

To be honest you guys never needed Berbatov. Tevez and Rooney where perfectly happy to create goals for Ronaldo or whoever to have a 20+ goal season. Unfortunately it seems that Fergie did not like the idea of his winger scoring 30+ goals a season while his strikers had 15+. Those two had no problem creating all those goals and then occasionally scoring some.

The main difference is the addition of Berbatov. Once Fergie spent £30M bringing him in, there was no way he wouldn't start the majority of games - and certainly he could never drop Rooney. Tevez was always going to be the man missing out, and I suspect that is a primary reason why United didn't take the option to sign him (That and the fact £30M to an agent was distasteful)

While we're on the Berbatov topic, he seems to operate further back than he did for Spurs, which may be why he isn't as effective.

I have a feeling that United will revert to the "Beckham" type set up, of pacy wingers supplying constant crosses to the front men. Ronaldo's individuality changed the way we played, because he preferred to cut in and go alone (sometimes to the detriment of his team-mates) I think the focus will be back on the front pair for goals next season, which as I keep saying will allow Wayne Rooney to become THE man for us. Certainly I'm expecting United to share the goals as we used to, especially with the freekicks and penalties being up for grabs too.

I also believe that Berba will also get more goals. Berba is misunderstood I feel, I was looking back at all the posts in this thread last summer when we were trying to get him - He's still the same player, we just need to give him a chance to adapt.

All this media hype about us "not being anything without Ronaldo" is a bunch of anti United tripe, perpetrated by the media and gobbled up by the ABU's (A term used to describe fans of other teams who hate us for no reasons other than jealousy "Anyone But United"s )who would dearly love to see the wheels come off for us. Ain't gonna happen boys and girls. United are bigger than any one player - if you don't believe me, look at this week for another example.
