Rafael has just been called up for the Brazilian senior NT. Surprising. I think he's been called up since Maicon is injured I think, so Rafael would be backup for Alves. I don't think he stands a chance of playing much for Brazil with players like Alves and Maicon in front of him. But must be a huge confidence boost for him.

New manager Mano Menezes, appointed as Dunga’s successor after Brazil’s disappointing World Cup campaign, named Rafael in a 23-man squad to face the USA on 10 August in New Jersey.

Rafael said: "I'm so happy to have been called up to the national team and very proud. It's my first call and I hope there will be more to come in the future. The coach called me before he announced the squad and asked me how I felt and how my training was going. I was so happy when he told me I was going to be in the squad."

While Rafael is among a host of young stars to be handed a chance to shine, his continued presence in the team is by no means guaranteed, especially as competition for the right-back berth comes from one of Brazil’s best performers in South Africa.

“Maicon plays in my position and he is a great player who I can learn a lot from,” Rafael said. “I am so lucky to play for the best team in the world, Manchester United. Now to play for my country will be a dream come true.”

First time i've seen a ref used a spray can of some substance to mark where a free-kick is to be taken and when the players in the wall should be.

I saw that too some months ago in a local game. It's a nifty addition to the world of Football, but not sure about the aesthetics of it, though.

I know that spray is used in the brazilian league for quite a few seasons now.
I find it useful, don't really understand why the idea hasn't spread to Europe since it helps a lot avoiding time being wasted in dead balls.

Anderson crushed his car?

Yep, was apparently pulled unconcious from the wreckage before it exploded. Also there are reports he was drunk following a boozy party.

These are only press reports though, nothing confirmed by the club.

According to ESPN, Mesut Ozil has said that coming to the Premiership to play for us or Chelsea would be a dream come true.

SAF needs to make signing this lad his number one priority. He should be on the phone with Werder Bremen ASAP.

I look at Ozil and I see the next great #7 of Manchester United.

I'm a big fan of Ozil and I'd love to see him in United colors. But can't see him coming though.

Yeah, I'd love to see him come here, but recent reports suggest he'll remain at Werder and then join Sammy Khedira at Real next season.

Fergie says United may trigger Giuseppe Rossi's buy-back clause before the start of the season.

I don't know why we'd buy another striker, it's the midfield we need to strengthen, especially in the wake of Anderson's antics. Would be nice to see Guiseppe back in red though.

Isn't Ozil out of contract after this season? It doesn't make any sense for Werder to keep him. They can either sell him now for 20 million or more, or keep him for the season and then he walks and they get nothing.

Also, getting Rossi would be great, we DO need another striker. I've said it a million times, the kids are making great progress but aren't ready to be regulars, and Berbs and Owen are both nearly useless.

I'd hardly call them useless, there both deadly on there day, pity one is injury prone and the other not the most prolific of goal scorers.

would be nice to get rossi though, i've not read about it anywhere though. Where was the source?

Both played their part. berbatov was our 2nd best scorer 9n the EPL and Owen scored very important goals e.g against Wolfsburg and more importantly against CITY. Rossi would not be worth it IMO. His goalscoring rate is around the same as Berbatov and Owen (10 in 30 games). Besides, we don't need anymore midget strikers do we? We have Hernandez and Owen already. It would only make sense if Owen were to leave.

Fantastic lob by Owen. And great goal by Park (H)

EDIT: Chicharito scores again. Wow this guy has real lethal striker's instincts.

Yeah, he looks the real deal, quick feet with pace to burn and 9 times out of 10 hits the target.

Yeah I've been impressed by his sharpness. He doesn't get much chances, but when he does get one, he bangs it in the net.
