Both played their part. berbatov was our 2nd best scorer 9n the EPL and Owen scored very important goals e.g against Wolfsburg and more importantly against CITY. Rossi would not be worth it IMO. His goalscoring rate is around the same as Berbatov and Owen (10 in 30 games). Besides, we don't need anymore midget strikers do we? We have Hernandez and Owen already. It would only make sense if Owen were to leave.

You seem to be forgetting how injury-prone Owen is, there is a very good chance that he will miss major time this season. I honestly don't even count him among our regular players because he is so prone to be missing every other game through some ailment.

Plus Rooney is good for at least one significant injury per season, and Berbs has proven that he cannot score when he is the main man. It wouldn't be fair to throw all of the burden on Chicharito in that situation, at least having Rossi would give us another option.

I live by the philosophy that you can never have too many defenders and too many strikers, especially on a team like United where they are all so injury-prone. Ideally you want 4 dependable strikers on the team, and right now I feel like we only have two, Chich and the Wonder Boy.

I agree that 1 more striker would be nice to have, but not Rossi. I'd rather have a tall striker like Benzema, Suarez or Dzeko. In that case I'd probably get rid of 1 striker (Berbatov or Owen).

Dzeko would be my ideal addition in attack.
Apparently we're going after Özil and Trochowski. I wouldn't mind Özil but I don't know why we'd be interested in Trochowski. He isn't really MU material. If we go for another German, I'd go for Marin.

I definitely think we should've sold Berbs this summer. It's pointless to sell Owen since he didn't cost us anything, it's not like we're losing anything by him being hurt all the time. But Berbs has been a poor investment and I think it would've been better to cash him in for whatever we could get this summer, and put the money towards Ozil.

I hope it is true that we are going after Ozil, if we sign him I will be absolutely thrilled.

would be nice but sadly I think Uniteds 2010 spending is very much over. Everything read is just rubbish stories the press are trying to sell.

What do you guys think are the chances of us winning silverware this season assuming we don't make anymore signing? Mickey mouse cup doesn't count.

Hard to tell at the moment. I'd like to see them play a few games but if preseason is anything to go by, strong as ever.

Chelsea are having some injury problems too, worried there not going to be fit in time for the start of the Prem. I think they lost 3 pre season games now. (in a row?)

Good news for us either way. Will be a chance to get ahead.

I don't think we'll do too well in Europe. Our chances to win the league probably rest on injuries and how well our midfield does this year.

I don't think that we will be signing anyone and that's a good thing IMO. We have a few good youngsters coming through and getting more players will just disturb there development. Diouf (Blackburn) and Welbeck (Sunderland) are probably going out on loan and Cleverley is staying according to SAF during today's press conference. With Hernandez showing good form during pre-season and Macheda, Diouf and Welbeck maturing we are well covered upfront (for the future). I hope Rio can come back stronger, but we have to wait and see. Smalling is showing some good signs, so I am not to worried about that. Anderson can provide the much needed spark from midfield, he has just been unlucky in terms of injuries, accidents etc.... According to SAF he will be back in training in two weeks time...

Help?

Fan Favourite
All those guys covering us for the future is great, but right now we are relying on a 35 year old to give us spark in midfield. Will Anderson finally step up? Not if Ferguson keeps on using him as a DM and who knows whether we will see a day Anderson play in a more attacking role, nevermind play regularly at all for us

We NEED to go back to the 4-4-2. My ideal lineup, which will never happen due to injuries:

-------------------------------------Chicharito-------------------
-------------------Wonder Boy-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Nani--------------------------------------------------------Valencia
------------------------Anderson---------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Hargreaves-----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Evra----------------------------------------------------------Rafael
-----------------------Rio-----------Vidic---------------------------

Unfortunately, I expect both Anderson and Hargreaves to barely feature this term, so I guess we'd have to swap Carrick and Fletcher in for them.

But I must admit, this is a far cry from the lineup that I was hoping we'd field this term. I had been hoping for David Villa and Gourcuff to be coming in.

Fergie said today that Diouf and Welbeck are off on loan - Cleverley apparently is staying.

Injury wise, Anderson will start training in two weeks, Obertan likewise, Carrick is out for the start of the season as is Rio. He also said Anderson's accident wasn't quite as bad as was reported.

The twins had food poisoning on Wednesday and will miss the Shield. Fergie has said all the World Cup players will get a game (aside from Evra who has only just joined training as Fergie gave him a longer holiday) He's using the Shield as an extra fitness game.

i see us winning the prem so long as we dont get robbed in the 6 pointer games like last season. especially when you consider an realistic expectation of an improvement of ability from nani and valencia, the return of anderson in mid and the so far un-ignorable form of chicharito hopefully continuing through some of the season.

the addition of an other defender to the squad will be big if we face the same sort of defensive injures we did last term, not expecting that though, even with ferdi likely to spend half the season on the bench.

also dont let M owen play on the wembely pitch at all. pools weak ass medical staff failed there as they are wil torres. we dont need him injured needlessly for some crappy wembely show piece. he can stay fit for the season if used correctly.

I'm quite looking forward to Cleverly playing lots. He was so good last year. Retuned from injury and is again showing his stuff pre season. We got a gem in Cleverly with an eye for goal.

This goal was quality

From SAF:

"I don't see the value in adding to our squad," he said. "I am happy with what we already have and I don't see any reason to add to that just because people want me to buy someone.

"Supporters want you to buy players. They like to see a big signing every year. Sometimes the players like to see a big signing, but we have to be sensible about it. We look at our own squad and ask what do we need? I look at the players everyone says are available and they don't excite me."
-----------------------------

I don't even know what to say to this idiocy.

We look at our squad and ask, what do we need? How about a long-term replacement in goal, some defenders who don't get injured, a creative midfielder who can impact the game with every touch, and a third striker who is actually a scoring threat?

I look at the players available and they don't excite me? Did you not watch Ozil play in the World Cup?

This old man is off his rocker. We need Mourinho.

you at it again? you know better than 25 successful years in charge of the biggest club in the world worth of experience? the only idiocy here is you thinking you can take football manager skills and apply them to the real world.

im really having a hard time believing you are a United supporter judging from all your negative posts. and i can forsee the exact same posts next year if SAF does the same thing as this year, even if he won the treble.

I am a United supporter, but at this point I am no longer an Alex Ferguson supporter. He is not doing what is in the best interest of the club. He is either covering for Malcolm the Deceiver, making the ridiculous claim of no talent in the market to hide the fact that in reality he is not allowed to buy any players, or he is too proud to admit that selling Ronaldo was a huge mistake and would rather go down with the ship than swallow his pride and say that we need to bring in new talent because we no longer have a game-changer in the squad.

Can you remind me how many trophies we won last term? Are you content to keep on not winning anything? When a team does not win anything, and then does not do anything to address the shortcomings of that team, what do you expect them to do the next time around? What would happen if we lived in a world in which everybody did not strive to continuously improve?

I'm sorry that everyone else around here just blindly follows AF because they think that success in the past will somehow automatically translate to success in the present, I am not content to do that because it's foolish. If we win nothing this season, and the season after, will you still say that it's foolish to question AF because he has won so many trophies in the past? At what point will you no longer accept present failure out of respect for past success?

if it makes any of you happy your manager was at the Fulham v W.Bremen game...

He could instantly win me back by signing Ozil. Instantly. But I'm not holding my breath.
