Rossi Set For Promising Reds Career - Fergie

United's 18-year-old striker Giuseppe Rossi is earmarked for a bright Old Trafford future having made huge strides in the Reserves following his arrival from Parma in the summer.

Ten goals from 14 starts for United's Reserves has created a buzz around Rossi's development at Old Trafford.

The America-born striker, who holds an Italian passport, was recently instated in United's 25-man Champions League squad as recognition for his impressive performances this term.

His name has been increasingly mentioned among the precious but fervent few that travel to Reserve matches and those who watch the second string on MUTV.

"Giuseppe Rossi is improving all the time," enthuses Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson. "He has got a bright future ahead of him.

"He is probably the coolest player at the club in terms of his play around the penalty box." Praise indeed.

"He is probably the coolest player at the club in terms of his play around the penalty box."
Sir Alex Ferguson

However, United captain Roy Keane, although acutely aware of the youngster's potential, recently counselled that undue pressure should not be placed on a talent very much in the development stage.

But it is difficult to keep the reins on such a precocious talent; a player that made two appearances as a 17-year-old for the Reds - against Crystal Palace and Arsenal in the League Cup - and one who continues to make inroads into the first-team.

"We had him in the squad for our match at Everton recently," added Ferguson. "He has an absolutely wonderful temperament for a striker."

Van der Vaart is very **** at the moment, and I can't see him improving much more, unless he gets rid of his girl and start concentrating on his football. Hleb has the explosiveness which Scholes also have, further more he can dribble very good, another Giggs but in the centre of midfield, he has got good passing and pace, but I guess he will be very expensive.

United prepare summer bid for Essien?

Manchester United are ready to bid big for Lyon midfield ace Mikael Essien in the summer.

The Ghana international is being lined up by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as Roy Keane's eventual successor and will attract a £10 million offer from the Premiership giants in June, says the Daily Star.

Essien has been outstanding in the Champions League for Lyon this season and has also attracted concrete enquiries from Spanish pair Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ferguson is aware of the growing interest in the young African, who came close to joining Everton 18 months ago, and hopes to tie up a deal quickly with Lyon before his price-tag rises.

The perfect replacement for Scholes is Stuttgart's Alexander Hleb
Funny that i dream of this everyday. It would be my biggest holiday on that day when he would sign for United. But i really doubt it. Not a big name yet, although he is still young.

It is impossible to replace Scholes because he is so unique and amazing. I think that possible fletcher, kleberson or even Rooney (most likely) in our current squad that could play a similar role to him in the team.

That would make a good thread: "Favorite player you wish your team would sign". Has someone already tried that once? Id love to see Tomas Rosicky at the Bridge, and it damn near happened two years ago, but since hes become pish, i dunno if hes wanted anymore. I think Dazmania is on to something there about Rooney being a possible replacement for Scholes. But as RvN ages, and you need a gamebreaking striker to fill the void, maybe Smithy would be better suited to that "slot" role as a CAM. Essien, as I recall is a more defensive player, but he still might have some value for you all, even if the rumor is bogus. If i remember right, Real Madrid nearly scooped him up before going with Gravesen. If you all do scoop up Van Der Vaart, how much do you think he will run you? Maybe next season's january window?

Pablo is a very, very different player from Veron.

Aimar plays as a CAM whereas Veron is a deep CM.

They play very differently.

FERGIE WELCOMES KLEB BACK

by Graeme Bailey - created on 3 Mar 2005

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Manchester United have not struck a deal with Brazilian outfit Corinthians for Kleberson, who has returned to training with The Red Devils following injury.

The Brazilian outfit - now bankrolled by sports investment group MSI - are looking to build the strongest team ever assembled in South American football.

They have already concluded a number of high-profile purchases including Carlos Tevez and Carlos Alberto, while a deal for Javier Mascherano of River Plate is also in place.

Kleberson is another on their list of targets and talks have taken place while the player was recovering in Brazil from a recent ankle problem.

The player's agent and father in law Marco Antonio e Silva, has been in negotiations, but as yet a deal with United is not in place.

Although a move is highly likely, it seems it will now have to wait until the summer.

Ferguson revealed that Kleberson returned to training earlier this week.

"Kleberson came back to training with us on Tuesday and we shall be monitoring his fitness," said Ferguson.

"There has been no deal struck with Corinthians.

"He is our player and we are going to see how he does now he's over this latest setback.

"Some people just don't seem to possess the luck you need when you start a new career, especially when you are in a new country.

"Kleberson hasn't had that good fortune. In terms of quality he is a fantastic footballer and hopefully things might change for him now with us."

Kleberson has failed to make the expected impact at Old Trafford since his £6 million move from Atletico Paranaense in 2003.

United look like they will accept a bid of less than half their original outlay for the Brazilian.
