Ruud scored from nearly outside the box! doesn't happen often at United.:D
Ronaldo's goal was awesome, 25 yards out, bullet into the top corner, he had a stunning game for Portugal!

Glazer's United bid breaks down

Shares in Old Trafford club dip

Staff and agencies
Thursday October 14, 2004

John McCririck was pleased after tipping the takeover bid to fail. Talks between Manchester United's major shareholders and prospective buyer Malcolm Glazer are close to being called off. The US tycoon had been in discussion with the Irish duo JP McManus and John Magnier to buy their 28.9% share of the club, angering United fans.

Glazer currently holds 19% of United, and was believed to be ready to meet the pair's inflated asking price of more than £3 a share. But it now seems the deal has hit a flaw after the value of the shares fell by as much as 4%.

The news will come as a boost to several supporter groups, who have recently protested at the proposed takeover.
United fans are concerned that Glazer does not have sufficient funds to buy the club and provide it with a safe future.

It would be a great move for Man Utd if they had Miguel shortlisted to replace Neville in the future (not currently because Neville is still a great player). That portuguese Nt right wing Miguel + Ronaldo is wonderful and would work like a sharm in Man Utd too.

Glazer 'talks close to breakdown'
Malcolm Glazer

Takeover talks between Manchester United's two key Irish investors and US tycoon Malcolm Glazer could be close to breaking down, according to a report.

Glazer has been in talks with racing tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus to buy their 28.9%.

According to news agency Reuters, Glazer has been in talks with the Irish duo's company Cubic Expression, United's major shareholders.

Shares of United fell as much as 4% but recovered to trade down 0.6%.

Glazer, who holds 19% of United, had been believed to be ready to meet the pair's asking price of just over £3 a share.

The American tycoon's bid has angered several United supporter groups, who are not convinced Glazer has sufficient funds.

They fear he would have to mortgage the club's future to raise the required stake.

And the Manchester Education Committee (MEC) targeted a reserve game at Altrincham to make their feelings known.

The supporters group invaded the pitch in a peaceful protest and aimed a Not For Sale banner at the cameras of MUTV - whom they accused of biased coverage after airing what they considered a pro-Glazer interview.

Man Utd condemn protest
That accusation has been furiously denied by MUTV, which is one-third owned by United.

In a statement, MEC warned if the club continued to ignore fans' concerns they would "render the club ungovernable".

The demonstration came after club director Maurice Watkins had his car vandalised.

That attack is thought to be in retribution for selling one million shares in February, which later ended up as part of Glazer's stake.

Glazer's PR firm Brunswick has also been targeted, with staff said to have received offensive emails, taxis and pizzas they didn't order and even a large skip.

haha (H)

Good news though.

Do any of you guys know whether Rossi can play as an attacking mid? I ask because when the time comes to give him a shot with the first team, he won't have much of a chance as a striker with the ones we've got already. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I understand he played as an attacking mid at times for the Parma youth team, but I'm not too sure. A future replacement for Scholesy maybe?:p

Wenger: Fergie's Utd are history

WENGER ... United “peaked”

By ANDREW DILLON

ARSENE WENGER has sensationally written off Manchester United - as fading giants.

The Arsenal manager dismisses the Old Trafford team as over the hill.

And Wenger claims United boss Alex Ferguson is struggling to turn things around — despite spending a fortune on players such as £30million striker Wayne Rooney.

Wenger, in a French TV interview, said: “The golden years at United were 1999, 2000 and 2001.

“What made that team strong began to disappear because the players had reached their peak.”

Wenger, who takes his Gunners to to Old Trafford on Sunday week for a Premiership showdown, added: “They are rebuilding. But the question is, ‘Are they going to be as good as the previous generation.

“And I am not so convinced by that. However, they do remain title contenders.”

United won an historic Treble of the Premiership title, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.

But only two players from the starting line-up that famously conquered Europe survive at the club today. And last season United trailed home third 15 points behind champions Arsenal.

FERGUSON ... rebuilding job

Highbury winger Robert Pires has hit out at United, believing the turning point was last September’s mass bust-up between the teams.

He said: “We established a psychological stranglehold over United that day.”

Meanwhile, Wenger faces a midfield crisis — with Gilberto, Freddie Ljungberg and Edu all set to miss the visit of Aston Villa tomorrow.

I love all this talk from the Library Gooners. It will be sweeter when they are beaten.:p

That's what I was thinking. We've already got the strikers and if this kid can keep progressing at the rate he's going, watch out. :p :mrpimp:

It's possible he could also develop into a left winger, since he's naturally left footed, and his stockiness and speed would be an advantage for him getting around defenders. Because he so short he would have a difficult time against tall defenders if played as a striker.

But still, I would like to see him play a full match as a striker first though, before I downplay his lack of height. He should be in the reckoning for a starting place against Crewe in the Worthless Cup.

Rooney, Ronaldo, Rossi.

Yeah, they should give him a shot to see what he can do. We'll have good options to play on the left wing, like you said, with Rossi and Richardson later on. Not bad. :p It looks like we're looking at other options as well:

United scouts in Italy

Manchester United scouts have been keeping tabs on surprise package Messina, according to sources in Italy.

Talented wing back Alessandro Parisi has certainly caught the eye during his side's startling charge up the Serie A table.

With Bortolo Mutti's men lying in second place in the table, many clubs have been alerted by the team's outstanding start with Valencia, Internazionale and Juventus already reportedly plotting a January bid for the 27-year-old wide man.

Parisi is a left-sided player and United chief executive David Gill admitted in the summer that the club would work through a list of targets for this position after missing out on the signature of Chelsea's Arjen Robben.

Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to have more competition for Ryan Giggs's regular slot and it is likely he will continue to despatch his spies to foreign climes in order to identify potential targets for 2005.

Parisi has scored twice this term and is highly rated within his homeland.

Man. United takeover negotiation canceled

LONDON, Oct. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Takeover talks between Manchester United club's two key Irish investors and U.S. sports tycoon Malcolm Glazer are expected to be called off later on Thursday, sources close to the process said.

Shares in the world's richest soccer club fell more than 7 percent on the news but pared their losses to trade down 3.8 percent at 264 pence by 1534 GMT.

Glazer was in talks with Irish racing tycoons John Magnier and J.P. McManus to buy their 28.9 percent stake, but the two sides have not been able to reach agreement, the sources said. Althoughthere is a chance the parties could agree an 11th-hour deal, the sources said any such agreement was extremely unlikely.

Sources close the process, however, have confirmed the approachwas from Glazer, who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American football team and has a 19.2 percent stake in United. But withoutthe support of the Irish investors, the sources said Glazer had nochance of getting his bid off the ground.

With Glazer out of the running, the focus could now shift to Keith Harris, the head of UK brokerage Seymour Pierce. Harris emerged as another potential suitor last week after a source closeto the firm said he was considering a financial restructuring of United.

Fourth in England's premier league, United has been the subjectof persistent takeover talk, as the club is profitable and debt-free with one of the best-known sports brands globally. Enditem
